we have these things here... they heat WAY faster than a kettle and are basically 100% efficient. Plus, they can be used for other things!

I guess that doesn't matter when all you eat is already mush, though.

You can't put a mug directly on that kettle's heater either moron. Both machines require an intermediary vessel. The kettle is just more expensive and totally single-use, while you can heat water in a microwave in any glass measuring cup.

every mug sold in America, along with any other kitchen container, is "microwave-safe" for the past ~45 years though. The handle wouldn't get hot at all, that's just a europoor blowing steam.

It should be required honestly, there's zero reason for anything to be made non microwave safe anymore, unless it's metal.

So wait if you have to heat up a liquid for five people you fill up five cups and cram them all into the microwave?

In a microwave the electric energy has to be converted into microwaves, which is a lossy conversion. And I see you are still unable to use a search engine, just blindly asserting your delusions based on your lack of knowledge.

no, it's going into the microwave chamber; some at different frequencies (a bell curve around 2.4Ghz after all) and some as direct heat, which makes it into the water vessel by convection and radiation. If you put your hands all over the outside of a microwave while it runs, you'll feel no heat anywhere, it's not going into the room but rather the interior.

Moreover, there is plenty of energy being "converted" into other useful frequencies which don't heat water with 100% efficiency but still resonate with other molecules' bond geometries in most foods, not being counted as "microwaves" in efficiency calculation.

                >other useful frequencies
sorry, it looks like I said this twice. Anyway the point is picrel. The microwave oven dumps out a ton of its "lost" energy into other bands which are still effective in heating, even though they aren't counted in its "microwave efficiency." I used to be like a europoor with an electric kettle. But my friend had an instant hot (a lot of office kitchens have these in America) so I got one for the house. A small tank lives under the kitchen sink, you hook it up and you can make tea, ramen, shit that uses hot water, and it also is great for cleaning pots and pans, or counter tops if you just superheat a sponge and use salad tongs to hold the sponge and wipe. Dried on food just melts off of surfaces. Love it, love it, love it.

We also have a Toto Washlet / Bidet and I love that more tbh

Is the magnetron /inside/ the heating chamber on your microwave? 2.45GHz magnetrons are around 60% efficient. The reason your microwave doesn't get very hot on the outside is because the magnetron is what heats up and it dissipates to the air circulating through the metal heat shield enclosure; and of course because you only run it in a handful of 30 second bursts. Wall plug efficiency of microwaves is about 50% which is frankly better than I expected. Older microwaves like the one my parents had when I was a kid do get noticeably hot on the outside and especially on the controls side.

Resistive losses in the magnetron. Next time you use your microwave, check if the housing gets warm. Also try to feel the warm air coming from the back.

Until we get heat-pump based appliances, they will not reach 100%-efficiency.

Anyway the reason amerisharts boil water in the microwave is that they are still on gas tech. After you develop electicity you can build induction stove tops and boil any liquid in seconds with zero 70s humming boxes taking up counter space. What convenience does a garbage disposal offer btw? Again, where does the energy that isn't converted "into microwaves" going? Hint, it's heat too. 1000W in is 1000W out, there's nowhere else for it to go, the OUTSIDE of a microwave doesn't heat up at all (and waste heat into the room)...but a kettle sure does!

            No wait a minute.
What the frick are you cooking long term in a microwave that the heat leeches and soaks inside? What's taking that long for that transferrance of heat?

Now looking past all the memes, looking past the microwave heating the non food being less efficient. How's it getting there and how is that heat not being lose. How do you deal with heat escaping?
Now don't get me wrong. I think induction gays with their hyperspecific cookware are almost as bad as the suisviders and even worse because they can literally jerk to near 100% efficiency but come the frick off.
Who is sitting there saying that their 2 minute nuked reheat burger in a microwave is benefitting from the waste heat from the magnetron? There's just not enough time and it's not an efficient delivery mechanism for that heat to be transferred.

Had you pitched it as a slow cooker then sure, but frick. Isn't your average dollar store slow cooker or instant pot more efficient than a fricking microwave.

Imagine being this moronic almost 1/4 of the way through the 21st century.

      >"Biosolids are nutrient-rich stabilized organic materials resulting from the treatment of domestic sewage in a water treatment facility. When treated and processed properly, biosolids are a beneficial resource, containing essential elements, beneficial plant microbes, plant essential nutrients, and rich organic matter...

      >When treated and processed into compost products or a compost amendment, biosolids can increase nutrient and organic matter content. Overall, Class A biosolid-based composts are some of the most potent agronomically and beneficial materials that can be found today."

Got that? The material your stupid ass thinks is "wasted" is extracted from residential wastewater and among other things is used to *improve* the quality of traditionally made compost.
Organic material in the form of pulverised vegetable scraps just makes the resulting wastewater and biosolids more nutrient rich.

In fairness I am confused about it as well and I grew up with them. Only seen them used like 4 or 5 times in my whole life. Early on I would dump the food waste into the trash, and now I check for composite options as some places I go have them, if they don't I just use the trash. Never saw a need to dump such things down the drain. Even if it is ground up enough not to hurt the pipes it adds more load to my local water treatment plant and I care not to stress it with extra waste now as my taxes go to its upkeep.

Yet I did benefit from garbage disposal being such a big deal, my realtor got me a great discount when she found the home's garbage disposal was broken. Got the seller to back down $2000 as that was what everyone said it would cost to fix. Cost me $200 to get a nice one on sale so people would stop asking how I could live without one. Just took some pictures of me with the new unit and receipt to shut them up, boxed unit is in the closet which I could install easily if a ever feel like it but honestly it makes a good low shelf for unloading grocery bags into the pantry. So I save $1800 and get an over price box shelf because everyone thinks they can't live without them.

Yes, although I would word it differently.

Yes, the social significance was starting to impact my mental health and my career.

My thought was I didn't like every single conversation starting with everyone asking why I didn't have a garbage disposal and then proceeding to talk down to me. It was getting really bad. A few times a week my friends would call and ask if I had gotten a garbage disposal, to the point we could speak of nothing else no matter how I tried to change the topic. Even people I didn't know where stopping me in the middle of trying to buy groceries asking if I was that guy who didn't have a garbage disposal and why I would want to live in my own filth. Each day after a long day at work I would come home to find clipped out handyman and plumber ads at my door, some times with a notes from my neighbors mentioning my lack of a garbage disposal. One crazy neighbor several houses down was extremely concerned that without a garbage disposal my food waste would attract rats that would threaten her children safety and home property values, you'd think I tried to kill her children with how she acted. Even my boss called me into his office to have "chat". There was a concerned raised that I might be hiding some financial difficulties, which is a big security issue to the company and people have been fired for in the past for that. Company security noted large financial changes relating to me and rumor was I couldn't afford a working garbage disposal. I had to explain that me buying a house was what caused the large financial changes that got flagged and that I would provide proof. Boss was calming down as thankfully he listened to me, till he asked if I had a working garbage disposal and I told him no. Told me he didn't care how I lived my life as long I kept up my work, but strongly recommended I buy one to help deal with the rumors that I couldn't afford one and asked I include a receipt with the rest of my documentation.

Lots of big companies and government jobs have clauses about being in debt or having affairs. The reason for this is those are some of the most common ways to get people to betray their organization. Blackmail, bribery, sex, that kind of stuff is what security is always worried about. Oddly enough they don't seem to ask about drugs as long as your not high at work. I assume they will either help you get clean or have some doctor they approved to hook you up. I also think I'm the only person not doing drugs given how everyone talks openly about weed and booze.

They will cut you loose if they think you're a risk. When I bought my house it depleted many years of hard earned saving in a single day so that must have trigger something, and I still had to take a mortgage to pay for half of it. So people started asking what did you do? Where did all your money go? I'm like I bought a house, they ain't cheap, even the small rundown one I got, it is on the public record. Thankfully most people though it was a rental property and didn't ask many questions. As they all had many run down places like mine they lease out, but wound never actually live in as they have their mansions.

I work and live in a very rich area, so most places I go I have to deal with crazy rich folks, emphasis on the crazy. Most people think I'm rich, as I do make a few dollars more an hour than the average, but I consider that as hazard pay bonus given all the crazy people I deal with in and out of work. My pay would never work with the high cost of living if I wasn't smart about it like I am. Like how the labor cost of changing a garbage disposal is $1800, you can quickly see how some DIY not only allows me to live in such a insane area, but also stash away a good deal for retirement given I ain't paying those prices. People suggest I start a handyman service given how much the crazy rich folks will pay to just change a lightbulb, but I also know how crazy they are, it's simply too risky.

Because reality is stranger than fantasy, and I live in reality. So it take no effort to talk about my life, except the parts I'm not allowed to talk about.

If you think that's good writing material then you should go get a job where you interact with people who make 1000 time what you do and who's decisions shape the world. The stories write themselves, well as long as they don't catch you and sue you to oblivion for basing a character or event off them. May I recommend valet driver, yacht dock hand, baggage boy, Neiman Marcus clerk, event hand at expo center or similar upscale starting job. Just remember the crazy rich person is always right and you not allowed to punch them in the face no matter how much they deserve it.

Mate, you're literally writing paragraphs of fanfiction in which your entire life and social standing were being threatened because you didn't have a garbage disposal.

The alternative that your anecdote is actually true and your life was so affected by this to the point you had to post pictures of you with a purchased waste disposal just to get the waste disposal police off your back definitely makes you come off worse than a writer of elaborate fanfiction.

                Anonymous

I don't know about that. If your metric is money or wealth then you should know most writers don't make much money, even less for fanfic writers. Yet outside of a mortgage, which I'm two year ahead on, I am debt free and on track for retirement. So I say I am much better off than an elaborate fanfiction writer. I would also argue that I'm better by other metrics as well. Given for the most part I enjoy life and things are going well. The only real deficiency you could claim was I don't have a girlfriend, but that's never been a priority for me so far. I do plan to look into the matter later, but I see it more as a nice to have then a must have.

If you think that's weird then you really should get out more and see the world. Social standing can be threaten anytime you don't fit the local norms. So if you go to new places and do new things you'll find stuff like that happens a lot more, don't limit yourself. Something as simple as eating canned kippered herring in middle school will threaten your social standing as the stinky fish kid. No matter how much you try to explain the value of a high protein and omega 3 diet to them as they stuff their face with pizza and down soda.

didn't you see? his work demanded that he needed to provide a receipt for a purchased garbage disposal if he didn't want to get fired, which is a definitely real thing that happened

            Anonymous

I did, I even considered buying and then returning the unit to to make it look more legitimate. But after thinking it over I figured buying a unit was the cheapest and simplest option. The reason being when I sell the place in a few years there will be an expectation that it has a garbage disposal. So it would be best to buy it now given the longer term expected market value between a new garbage disposal and $200. The money will lose value much faster thanks to inflation, even conservative calculation at the time suggest I will save about 18% or $36 if I buy it now and hold it given the value and time frames I'm expecting. And that was before the high inflation hit which makes my saving significantly more, but I haven't bother to actually recalculate it. It helps to think of every exchange as an investment with it's own independent opportunity costs and returns. Lots of people will research things like stocks or bonds. But you can make lots of small gains that really add up by investing in regular stuff.

Correct, I would never invite that crazy lady over. The place is small and not much to do so I honestly don't plan on anyone coming over.

            of course not.
in his schizo paranoia-addled brain, everyone is out to get him over not having a garbage disposal, so they would never allow the subject to pass. there is a secret government organization that advises all his friends and co-workers on if he has legitimately purchased a garbage disposal.

First, I'm not paranoid. Which is honestly kind of odd when you think about it given the number of times people have been legitimately been out to get me. One would think all of those events would make me paranoid by now, but I have found it far more useful to be open and trusting compare to living in self made prison of fear.
Second, there is no coordinating effort or organization involved. It is merely a combination of a local social belief that garbage disposals are the correct way to deal with food waste so not having one is seen as unsanitary and thus a negative. While work was related to the sudden change in my finances that is largely unrelated, expect somehow the idea of being in debt got conflated with the lack of owning a garbage disposal. Because somebody thought only poor people wouldn't own one

              S10 guy here
I installed a garbage disposal in my buddy's house for like $200.
They're really easy man they just screw on underneath. Take apart your s trap, you should be able to do that by hand, good opportunity to clean it at this point,
They have these moronic steel brackets with three screws in them.
What you do is unscrew those screws, they're usually rusted into place and the Philips heads on them strip out so be prepared to grab on to him with a pair of vice grips. And don't forget to do the connection to the dishwasher, that's just a hose clamp, 5/16 socket or Flathead though you're going to want the 5/16 cuz it's probably half rusted shut.
And then you unscrew the drain from the top of the sink, you got to grab it underneath and the top part at the same time from the front of the counter.
Shut off the breaker to the garbage disposal, or rely on the switch to keep the wires cold, and unwire it. Then you wire up the new one, black to Black white to white and ground te ground. Install the top part of the sink, usually with plumbers putty, which they say doesn't dry out but it does... There are better sealants available for the discerning plumber. Set those three screws back into place your new one came with a new shiny bracket that's not rusted...
Reattach the dishwasher, and throw the trap back on.
I can't imagine charging someone $1,800 to do that. I would feel like a thief.

ethics, one of many reasons why I didn't start a handyman business in this market. That and a crazy rich person is likely to sue you after the work is done because you failed to make it like their unrealistic vision. Something like "You must have done it to wrong, it makes noises when I turn it on. Fix it or you'll hear from my lawyer!". The number of times I hear stories like that I wonder if the high prices and high turn over of tradesman in the area is everyone thinking they can make good money, but in fact the crazy rich folks know how legally steal.

                >First, I'm not paranoid.
                >Which is honestly kind of odd when you think about it given the number of times people have been legitimately been out to get me.
                bro.
you believe people are frequently legitimately out to get you.
you are having paranoid delusions of persecution.
it doesn't matter that you don't "feel" paranoid or afraid... you are constructing scenarios that are completely absurd and do not happen in reality. no, i don't care where you live or about their alleged views on the vital importance of garbage disposals. even if that was true, well over 50% of what you've written would still be a clear persecutory delusion.
your rational mind might be functioning well still, allowing you to communicate clearly and do your work and construct believable explanations for the strange scenarios you see ... but your instinctual mind is broken. it is flagging things as threats incorrectly and leaving your highly-trusting rational mind to figure out how that makes sense.
                >every conversation starting with garbage disposal and ending with disapproval
                >regular hounding from friends to get one, refusing to speak about anything else
                >strangers stopping you in grocery store to denigrate you for... not owning a garbage disposal???
                >neighbors harassing and leaving notes daily
                >boss will fire you if you don't prove you bought a garbage disposal
these are all obviously things that did not happen. i know you feel they did but they did not, not in the way you perceived.
before you know, it you will have people you following you and looking in your windows to check if you installed it properly.
i just have been dealing with this with a good friend of nearly 2 decades, who just got medication and started discussing how strongly he believed his now clearly-impossible delusions. his delusions were very similar to yours but with a different topic of focus.
you either have some mental ailment causing delusions, or you have a carbon monoxide leak in your home or something.

Get picked as a target in school by a gang and they're out to get you till you graduate and move away. Don't know what I did, but it was enough for all kinds of harassment including a number of physical attacks some of which could have been life threatening if I hadn't been as lucky as I was. It maybe juvenile, but it is a group that was out to get me.

College was calm, but later after graduating I was at an expo event I end up talking with some guy who's talked about a big deal he was closing with a supplier. I realize he is getting ripped off so I tell him about another supplier who can get him the same stuff for a lot less. Don't think anything of it other than just some nice advice to a stranger. Well his original supplier was a big company and that deal was worth nearly half a billion dollars. Apparently "that's not how you do things in this industry." I didn't even try to get a commission cut, apparently I could have made several years pay in that one day. And in messing with that deal I pissed off a lot of people and assume I got on some bad list cause lots of things after that.

And for the last time stop conflating my boss firing me with owning a garbage disposals, that was just one element of a larger issue. I was just citing it to show the significance that garbage disposals have in my area. If my employer was like that I'd have left for a safer job years ago.

yea, no, you have mental issues.
without intervention, your life will always be like this, you will always feel singled out and stalked and attacked, forever, over anything your mind can conjure to explain your malfunctioning instincts. it will get worse and worse until it is far past unbearable and you either get help or eat a gun to make it stop.
                >got on some bad list
                no, you did not.
                >Apparently "that's not how you do things in this industry."
you're quoting someone here. who told you this? directly told you this, i mean. because if you say something like "oh it wasn't direct, it was implied, you know, between the lines" then you're insane. most likely, nobody directly told you this. your grocery store checker might have said something mundane to you about the weather or some shit after this event and you simply interpreted it by "reading between the lines" or "interpreting the subtext" to mean that you have offended a billion dollar corpo into going onto a "bad list" that has qualified you to eventually be... assailed over your ownership of a garbage disposal? lmfao
how do you even know about the deal being half a billion dollars? how do you know anything about the original supplier? did you just assume, because you felt persecuted and worked backwards to find a justification for it that makes some kind of rational sense? i'd bet so.
                >the significance that garbage disposals have in my area.
                none.
everything you have experienced has likely been indirectly inferred from real experiences. situations where you physically see one thing happen but you *just know* something else is going on so you construct a rational explanation to justify that feeling. that is a paranoid delusion.

Well I did originally tell them to stop spray paint profanity, dicks pic and their logo all over the neighborhood. I was polite about it, so I hardly think that was enough given how violent their reactions were and more so given how many years they kept at it.

I categorize some guys grabbing me from behind and throwing me into a busy street where a big truck near runs me over as a life threatening event.
Because I known the market price for laboratory grade high purity Tantalum and I knew how much they were trying to buy with their 10 year supply contract, so just work backwards, include global shipping and you get a few million short of half a billion dollars.
I worked the expo floor, you got lots of supplier talking deals all the time it hard not to pick things up. Big corporate dealers don't pay any attention to expo staff, when they really should be behind closed doors given how big those deals are. The person who yelled that at me was the one who lost the deal, he was very upset and apparently had been trying to hunt me down the earlier day. Thing was I didn't even work in his industry, dude mixed up an event and hospitality worker with global material supplier, although it was a huge global material supplier event we were hosting. After I explained that to him he stormed off and my work place got very hostile till I got fired a few months later. After that finding work I couldn't find any work dealing with events or hospitality. Ended up changing industries completely which worked out eventually.

Alright I have had enough of you telling me about how my life is a paranoid delusion. I doubt there is anything I can say that would convince you, and your posts don't change my past. So how about you instead tell us about your opinions on garbage disposals? I went with a 3/4HP over the common 1/2HP mainly because it was rated with a much longer wear life so it would be less likely to need replacing when I rent it out the house.

Only thing "confusing" is why you think those ugly rocker switches are something worth crowing about.

Pic related in my custom built USA home are 63 years old and still working just fine, plus because they're stylish and cool they're they're probably more valuable on the restoration parts market than those fugly eurothings even at the moronic price they go for because they're fugly eurothings.

        >why you think those ugly rocker switches
You're ignoring everything else, dumbass. Do amerimutts have a standard for this modular stuff at all? Or do you just use the same fricking vertical rectangle plates for every socket, having a separate one for everything? Because I can get a 7M plate and clip whatever I want into it.
        >they're probably more valuable on the restoration parts market
        Exactly, because they're not standard.
        >fugly eurothings
Muh aesthetics. Your standard light switches look like absolute shit. This is standard here.

Seems like that would have been a good thing to research for yourself before just assuming it's true and looking like a fricking moron who thinks multi gang boxes and standardized mounting of switches, outlets, A/V, data/networking and other wiring interfaces in the corresponding faceplates are some European technological advancement that are a mystery in the USA.

What's stopping me from putting that food waste in a blender with a pint of water then running the cold tap as I pour it down the drain...?
    Right.
Right. not a big difference. And still doesn't solve the problem of that not being the place to put food waste, nor it solving the problem of food waste to begin with.

How about you just don't buy too much food you fat fricking pig.
