They could end the war of they wanted to

If war is extension of economic capabilities the west could have long ago given enough weapons to ukraine so that balance of power would tip and Russian aggression would not be worth it anymore. Why they dont that?

If it’s all for the “money, power, biaches and lolz” why do my peers walking around complaining “muh war - bad” ?

    >Why they dont that?
They coopted Pootin is antics and turned the whole thing into a massive money laundering operation, its in the West's best interest to keep both engaged in stalemate, one serves as a money laundering apparatus that doubles as good PR while the other is an ex adversary who keeps eroding himself through their own incompetence and corruption.

        >what money laundering
LOL, Ukraine can take their own money and "invest" it certain companies that donate to specific politicians and groups.

That plus our MIC needing to "Refill" will get a ton of over budget government contracts which will funnel more money into certain people's pockets

If the US wanted to we would have ended the war but as OP has posted, the US doesn't want that.

                >"While the country’s primary focus must be on its military efforts, the government in Kyiv must also focus some of its attention on setting up a robust structure to effectively deal with the influx of foreign assistance in order to ensure that it is distributed and delivered to those sections of the population and military forces that most need it – an undertaking that would be a significant challenge even in peacetime. It is beyond doubt, as in any other country during an armed conflict, that some individuals will exploit this situation for their personal gain. Unfortunately, being preoccupied with defending the country, the government can only expect to be marginally successful in fighting the activities of war profiteers"

The military aid is almost exclusively equipment close to the end of its shelf life that would otherwise need to be destroyed or moved out of the war stock.
The economic aid comes mostly in the form of loans and is used to pay pensions, government employees and debt service so Ukraine does not technically go bankrupt.
Like everywhere, embezzlement is happening, that is always priced in.
Given that we get what would otherwise be WW3 at GWOT prices this is such a bargain, even if the Ukrainians stole half the money it wouldn’t matter. The entire endeavor is ridiculously cheap relative to the objectives achieved.

You can't just dump weapons on a country that doesn't have the infrastructure set up to repair and supply them. The HIMARS Ukraine does have are the max amount they can keep armed, fuelled and in good condition.

Remember you need guys trained on these machines, you need mechanics, parts inventory, fuel, ammo, etc.

Anon, stop being reasonable. If you want a working armored formation, all you need to do is handing over tanks/IFVs have them read the first steps mini manual and point in the general direction of the enemy. Also machines never break from regular use, especially not tracked vehicles.

If we are seeing IFVs now, there has been prep and training going on for about half a year. If we see batallion batches coming in now, there will be brigades in three months.

HIMARS aren't bleeding edge tech. They don't require 12 degrees in mechanical engineering and rocket science to maintain. And logistics-wise they aren't any different to any other SPG. Having more of them enables you to keep the same amount of units active without sacrificing maintenance. The only argument you can make about not having more of them is if they're chronically in short supply of missiles which so far seen minimal signs of.

The only argument you can make about not having more of them is if they're chronically in short supply of missiles which so far seen minimal signs of.

Ukraine has said this explicitly. They don't need more HIMARS. The amount they have is sufficient for full coverage of their frontlines so that whenever they identify a target high value enough to be hit by HIMARS, they're capable of designating, deploying and hitting it while also being able to keep the HIMARS repaired, supplied and safe. If they tripled the amount of HIMARS on the front, that triples the logistics, triples the possibility of Russian being able to hit one, and because 40 was already enough to engage deep targets with accuracy, it doesn't add any real gain.

It's the same with western tanks, it's going to be entirely up to the supply chain and how many guys can be well trained on them, because you're not going to just throw away your russian tanks and get the guys trained on them to use entirely different western stuff. You're going to make new divisions with new people trained on western armored systems, which takes a lot of time to set up.

It is true. When you get down to brass tacks I haven't heard a retired general who didn't advocate for much more aid given to Ukraine in sufficient enough numbers to seriously resolve the battle, and who wasn't confused by the whole mbt debate that has played out across the west.

The facts are: Even if you gave a fuck about the mbt shit, you got mexico, you got malaysia, you got indonesia, you got crete, you got Greece. You could have easily filled up stocks of amx-30, and amx-13, with troop carrying IFV varients of enough number to totally fuck the russians. Amx-30 and amx-13. None of those countries want that materiel, and most of them decommissioned it in the last 24 months but have it in reserve. That's two tracked platforms that with decent computation, stabilisation, suspension and thermals would have wrecked face with whatever the fuck the RF had.
The West had six months to make that happen and get some team of nerds together to figure out what good modernisation of that shit would look like for the Czechs and Poland to fucking retrofit.

By twelve months the modernisation of the amx-30 and amx-13's could have been completely finished and delivered with training in place for whoever the fuck is in third legion.

    In they fucking roll.

Another thing? While every western power is given the task of producing the modernisation packages for those tracked vehicles, they could have been given the modernisation packages for any of the warsaw pact shit that was hitting Ukraine. t-55 up. Fucks, MB-LT up. m101 up. Fuck whe could have been making a fuckload of 100mm artillery that could easily be dismantled and mounted on mt-lbs but still have integrated computerization. I'm sorry, I'm drunk and angry.

Whether you like it or not, we already have every single bit of information of how to upgrade to the maximum extent warsaw pact horseshit. Fuck, from the Ukrainians themselves, given that was their god damned military's industry for twenty years.

All of us could have done it, figured out our industry's capability at production, channeled our apprenticeships and other production training towards it. Fuck, opened factories in warsaw pact counties for students to learn their trade, liase with Warsaw pact montherfuckers and become a big fuckoff NATO family with tactile connections through god damned hard work that lasted two generations.

Ukraine could have seen their stupid modernisation pipe dreams realised, and understood there was a place for it the whole time. Hey now your BDRM is destroying t-90's, congrats. More importantly, it's protecting your family. You were right, the work of your grandad, your dad, and you has it's fucking place.

But no, no. Here's not enough modified m113's, and in a miad of configurations it's fucking useless to have them donated, just about. Hey well done at those victories, but we aren't gping to make sure that all that captured equipment has an accessable database so you can request spares and have them delivered on time, so you go back to your poor culture of hoarding all the shit you've found on the vague assumption it might be useful one day, with the flow on effect that your very capoab;e general have less tan fuck idea what your actual capability is, and assume the worst in their wisdom, so initiative is never properly utilised.

      Fucking breaks my heart.

The US is slowly trickling in bigger and better weapons because they don't want to escalate too quickly. Once Abrams or F16s are given to Ukraine, they no longer work as bargaining chips. They want to use the threat of more escalation to induce Russia to pull out. Plus, once Ukraine has this hardware, the cat is out of the bag. They have it forever afterward.

You don't do everything all at once. You train operators, build technical capacity for maintenance, sustain equipment with parts, etc... A huge dump of advanced, expensive weapons weapons could trigger Russia into using a nuke, be misused and wasted, or make US allies nervous about being the cause of an escalation. The "Boiling Frog" metaphor is used. I've posted about this before. You start small and slowly turn up the heat until Russia is trapped and can't escape:
    >"We sent Ukraine some guns and ammo. Bullets are nothing to worry about"
    >"Ukraine makes their own ATGMs. You're can't say some ATGMs is an escalation when Ukraine can build their own"
    >"We replaced some of Ukraine's parts for their Tanks and IFVs. Are they not allowed to replace stuff now? Be reasonable"
    >"We sent some armoured ambulances without any guns. Is Ukraine not allowed to have trucks now? They're purely defensive"
    >"So we sent some new parts for their planes. We didn't actually send planes though. They had MORE fighters when you first invaded, nothing has changed"
    >"We sent them some old Soviet tanks. They've had Soviet tanks forever."
    >"We sent HIMARS but you already said it wasn't as good as your stuff, so NBD."
    >"We're going to send them some modern air defense systems. Purely defensive. You shouldn't have attacked civilians"
    >"We gave them some old IFVs from the 1980's. Don't you have stuff better than that?"
    >"We've already sent about four different IFVs, the ONLY difference is this one has a 105 cannon. But so did those old T55's we sent."
    We are here
    >"Yeah, so we sent some western tanks, but we've been sending tanks for a year now. You've said yourself your tanks are better."
    >"Fighters? Of course we gave them F-16's. The other ones were old soviet garbage, and Ukraine has been running out of parts. F-16's are 40 years old, what are you worried about? Your aircraft are stealth. They exist. They should have no problems, right?"

Never interrupt your enemy whilst he is fucking up on a cataclysmic level. Yes, the west could end this war now. But who does that benefit? If we push a semi intact Russia back into its box, it will learn from its mistakes and come back for more later on. Russians are not real humans. They need to be wiped out and the longer this war goes on, they are taking care of that problem for us by themselves. I think the Ukies understand this too and are happy to play along if it means destroying their parasitic neighbour

originally the big fear would've been "escalating" conflict with Putin and forces them to respond in some way. people really weren't sure how well things would end up at the very beginning of the invasion. even if you followed Russian military affairs extremely closely, you'd probably have figured that at the very least Russia would be able to win a decent bit against Ukraine like they did in 2008 against Georgia. hence initially, most weapons sent to Ukraine were small arms and light weapons like ATGMs, MANPADS, and mortars. it was only until fighting lasted about a month that Soviet surplus vehicles, SAMs, and heavy artillery started pouring into Ukraine.

but at this point it's pretty obvious that Russia's threats are just a bluff, considering that they can't even hold together a solid defense of Donbas and Crimea. they even just flat out ignored Armenia (biggest independent Russian ally in the Caucasus) when it got invaded by Azerbaijan in 2022, despite the fact Azerbaijan "accidentally" shelled a Russian military base in Armenia. Russia has almost 0 hard or soft power at this point, other than the nuke threat.

at this point, the real big thing holding back much stronger Western support is the fact that most NATO/US-allied countries have been arming up like crazy and modern weaponry is in high demand. almost every NATO member has made new orders for US-made weapons (especially HIMARS, F35s, M777s, etc.), and meanwhile big alternative arms suppliers in South Korea, Turkey, Israel, and France have basically been working overtime to fulfill orders for customers in Europe and Asia. thus, it becomes very hard to spare any extra high tech weapons to the Ukrainians beyond simple light weapons.

I think eventually they'll probably get some second hand Abrams and F16s from the US, and many some equivalents from EU members as token additions. if they're getting the Patriot they'll probably get other super advanced stuff.

If Ukraine ever got "too much" equipment and were able to overwhelm Russia into surrender, that'd not be in the best interest of the West (Or the powers that be at least). Russia would quickly rebuild their population, arms manufacturing and stockpiles, and likely become a threat to western hegemony in the future.

But if the war is nearly a stalemate, then Russia will keep pouring men and resources into the meatgrinder, and whether they win or lose, they'll be sufficiently weakened for decades to come.

And the west doesn't have to sacrifice any of their own manpower to do so. Just a bit unfortunate for some Ukrainian souls.

Russia needs to be slowly drained of the USSR stockpiles. Once this is complete Russia will capitulate since it is not a functional economy or posses a production capability, it is purely a nkvd population control gimmick. The reason to push towards capitulation is to offer Russia investment and security in exchange for it becoming a civilized nation, since the Russian population is the epitome of pathetic they would never be able to achieve this themselves. The benefit to the west of all this expense is rolling back the doomsday clock, as Russia does not have a rational leadership for MAD to work. Therefore Russian nuclear disarming is of the greatest benefit to the west, to Russias neighbours and especially to Russia itself. But disarming a bomb is best done delicately and slowly.

In order for these companies to suck on the fat european tax payers tit Ukraine must first be turned into rubble. The more this war goes on the more destruction there is and the more destryction there is the more money is to be made.
