They're useless and should be disbanded.
"Special" this, "special" that. It doesn't win wars. Obviously, since the military started relying so heavily on those morons, things have been going downhill.
USSOCOM essentially exists as a means for the Executive Branch to wage war without Congress or the American people's knowledge, let alone consent, by abusing the covert nature of the organization.
So yes, they should be disbanded, but for being used as accessories to willful violations of the Constitution alone.
>USSOCOM essentially exists as a means for the Executive Branch to wage war without Congress or the American people's knowledge,
There is actually significant reporting and notification to the legislature. Most SOF work is fairly mundane and done in cooperation with host governments.
In what capacity? I haven't seen any particularly egregious operational failures so far. Seems like they have a reputation for competence and they uphold it.
Two failed patrols in 20 years in an organization of 70k people? That's exceptional. If the only way you can take losses is by winning so often that you get wienery and caught with your pants down, you're doing pretty damn good.
And now they're going after them for refusing the vaccine. It's like dick marcinko all over again, of all the valid things you could have gone after him over that's the bullshit you decide to finally send him to the brig over?
The issue is overemphasis and the use of them as glorified SWAT and infantry while regular infantry get used as cops.
Also, perhaps there ought to be consolidation. I hear a bunch about special reconnaissance groups like Air Force Special Reconnaissance or RRC Rangers and Marine Force Recon so how about limiting the number of recon groups?
There is no myth, they are just actually badass in real life.
Even a small team can destroy the command structure of entire military organizations. Imagine a single squadron of 80 elite Delta Force operators coming to kill you, how are you going to survive that? Not without great difficulty.
They used to be something, but after 20 years of the GWOT, they’ve become just another ticket to get punched on your commissioned way up the Pentagon Career Ladder.

>destroyed*
>"Special" this, "special" that. It doesn't win wars.
"Special military operation" anyone?
They're pretty used as a partial and cheaper substitute for regular infantry.

I'm thinking more along the lines of this (note the chain of command only gave him a general discharge over this)
This level of frickery is common in special operations and more over the chain of command covers for them.

JSOC is where the action is at
where do I sign up as a 30 year old foreigner if I'm extremely fit, can speak r*ssian and shoot a gun better than most comp shooters?
US embassy if you're outside USA. Recruiting office if in USA. Language skill is valuable.
>foreigner
Dealbreaker, you need citizenship for anything above regular infantry
What myth? Do you even know what SF does?
Cocaine?

morons like you think special forces do only direct action.
