Why not just multiple cheaper howitzers to get the same effect?

Because all those howitzers need crews that need training, pay, transportation, supplies, retirement gibs. And will get massacred by the first counter battery fire

    >Why not just multiple cheaper howitzers
It's more expensive to train multiple crews to man cheaper equipment than it is to train one crew on more expensive equipment. Each crewmember trained is hundreds of man hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars spent. And if you lose him, all your time and money is lost. Better to put him in a big-frick off armored box that can do some fancy shit.

Tbh with that distributed fire system the ukies have (and frankly any decent army should have had long ago, but I digress) you really can do that. It means you can't do several MRSI strikes at once but that seems like a rare occurence anyway.
That said, MRSI capability is mostly about quick loading and a tiny bit of software that's not really an expense. So why not have it when you might need it.

      >tiny bit of software that's not really an expense
tiny bit of software that feeds into a targeting computer that controls motors that control a 2 ton barrel with mm accuracy
      Im sure its really cheap

You need all of those anyway.

Stupid question but why isn't there a system like this for artillery?

      Anonymous

how the frick would you elevate the barrel 45° upward, as would be necessary for artillery?

        Anonymous

I'd just mount the barrel 45° upwards roughly?
