Black person do you have any idea how scary that would actually be to face? It's a zero risk, zero commitment resource that can trot up to you and kill you in the worst way possible. If you don't pop it before it gets too close you get cooked alive. It won't bleed to death, retreat or break away unless you actually disable it.

A lot of people still consider these things to just toddle around at a jogging pace, if you're going disposable you could crank up the mechanical output to get them really hiking along. Then if they get it up to 50mph or 80kmh it'll be all over your shit before you know it and they're not slowed down by terrain nearly as much as some ground based drones with wheels and tracks.

Bipedal is hard because there's nothing much running around on 2 legs that goes that fast, an Ostrich or Kangaroo gets close but they're still usually under 80kmh
But having a quadruped like flamer doggo is fairly easy if you map out the structure of something like a springbok or cheetah that has the bio mechanical movements to accelerate and manoeuvre itself at high speeds. Then transfer that to a purely mechanical structure to replicate it. You do want legs more so than wheels when it comes to speed over cross country, otherwise you'd need to figure out a suspension system to handle the high impacts and stability that comes with it. Plus there's things which can get in the way like rocky terrain or stairs which even tracks get slowed down by.

Got to remember on the same principle that even when you wear body armour in the field, you're not relying on it stopping everything being sent your way. You need to move quickly between hard cover so you're not getting someone managing to conduct accurate fire. If the drone works on the same principle you give him enough armour against some fragmentation or very light arms fire you can allocate more to the power and speed so he'll be able to at least make it to effective ranges.

The whole problem with man-portable flamethrowers was how vulnerable they made you and how little fuel they could carry relative to the risk of deploying it. A disposable robot solves the problem.

Robot flamethrowers have a range, payload and accuracy edge over thrown incendiaries
That said, you are right in the sense that there is no reason to equip these things with old timey fire projectors instead of having it launch WP grenades or better yet, carry half a dozen of these things

    >The age of the Warbot has arrived
The age of the Warbot arrived about 90 years ago. Radio controlled boats existed in 1898. Radio controlled planes were developed as far back as the interwar period between WW1 and WW2 and saw limited use in WW2 shooting down bombers over Germany and bombing boats in the Pacific.

I've noticed an uptick in these "ZOOMj DA ROBUTTS ARE GUNNA KILL US ALL" threads lately. All those Boston Dynamic bots and similar are still fragile as frick and their development focuses on the movement, balance and adaptability for now, also their actions are scripted to hell and back. I'd be more scared of drones as it is.

Well, anyway, this all seems concerted, I wonder if the glavset is trying something new and stupid to worry people.
