vehicle pixel camo actually makes a lot more sense than on infantry camo. It's very disruptive and effective at combat distance due to the larger scale

How do they paint camo onto vehicles anyway? I figure for digicam it's just a matter of moving some stencils around the bodywork and using a few cans of differently coloured spraypaint, but it seems like a real pain in the arse. Is that why you don't really see vehicular camo from before the last ~20 years, because the designs were too complicated to paint without too much effort?
nowadays, at least for NATO, they are painted by specialist contractors. Last I checked they use film stencils cut from a file provided by the manufacturer, and then use airbrushing.
Back in the cold was they mainly used hand drawn chalk stencils, and on the future I can imagine they'll eventually start using a laser templater

How do they paint camo onto vehicles anyway? I figure for digicam it's just a matter of moving some stencils around the bodywork and using a few cans of differently coloured spraypaint, but it seems like a real pain in the arse. Is that why you don't really see vehicular camo from before the last ~20 years, because the designs were too complicated to paint without too much effort?
Camo is meant to diffuse moving targets. They might look stupid being stationary but on the move it just works. Same with combat uniforms.
nowadays, at least for NATO, they are painted by specialist contractors. Last I checked they use film stencils cut from a file provided by the manufacturer, and then use airbrushing.
Back in the cold was they mainly used hand drawn chalk stencils, and on the future I can imagine they'll eventually start using a laser templater
Another method is the old stencil on overhead projector than chalk outline. Also works for hangar door art.
