>tfw trying to start a carbon composite product business from my home (not my garage, my home)
i'm so stupid, poor and tired, bros
i can't do this anymore. i can't keep working from my downstairs room because everything is so inconvenient - the walking 15 times to and from the backyard if i want to spray 1 thing, family members constantly entering the room and complaining about the smell of chemicals, the lack of space, it just goes on and on and on
i can't work out of the garage because we have 2 cars and houses have been burgled twice in my street in the past 6 months so i do not want one of our cars parked in the driveway and renting commercial spaces is so expensive that it makes me wonder what the frick i am even doing here

my house is on a hill and there is no flat area big enough for it
        >just dig and level, etc.
that takes thousands of dollars and months of patience and learning which i do not have

Doesn’t sound like you have the dollars and patience to be the next Scaled Composites then.

The Rutan bros figured it out!

the money comes AFTER you make the business, not before

Then you should at least have the patience. Or the resourcefulness to set up shop at VatoZone in Oakland

rent a mini excavator and do it in a day....

both sides of my house are 1m away from my fence, i would have to dismantle the fence and even the the path is too narrow to get a mini excavator to pass through either side
the """""people""""" who designed my house decades ago should be shot on sight for incompetence

You ever used chemicals in the garage when cars are parked in there? The cars will smell like the chemicals for a month after. I made the mistake of doing some sanding in the garage once too with the car parked in there and the windows open, it was a mess.

          oh that's not so ba-

Yea I try to sand out in the driveway as much as possible now. I’ll cut wood in the garage, but not sanding.

      I unironically respect this.

Of course they have a vacuum pump and gauges, they use the loaner ones from the autozone for free. That's just good economic sense.

My dad used to work at one of the big carbon fiber plants in California before they packed up shop in the early 2000s and moved away.
Nothing from his description sounds very home gamer possible but they also made lots of parts for aerospace and defense applications which is a whole different world from some pretty car parts.

prepreg aerospace-tier carbon is completely inaccessible to the home creator (people like me), only because you require a big autoclave and those cost $50k+ starting

Have you tried installing an extractor fan?

yeah i was thinking about it but it's not just the smell of fumes, it's the overall work environment which is impossible in terms of air temperature, workflow, etc. you just can't do anything smoothly and efficiently if you aren't set up properly

Stop being a pussy and do it in your garage, just lock the doors.

i'm honestly not even sure if doing it in the garage would be a good idea because my garage, it's just a carport-converted-into-a-garage, has too much thermal inefficiency so the room temperature fluctuates far too much to properly use chemicals and resins with carbon so i'm all out of ideas, fellas

I actually have a little piece of carbon fiber that they used for lot testing at the lab. They threw them out afterwards so he made a keychain out of it. Took it under flash so you could see the weave.

          that's a really weird finish
the texture is 100% perfectly consistent except for those few perfectly-equally sized pinholes which are not supposed to exist in top tier commercial carbon

the other side is some weird texture, that was the smooth side
it's also 20+ years old and has been used as a keychain the entire time

You either need to have the resources to do the job in a manner that works with your lack of patience, or you need to have enough patience to do the job in the adverse conditions brought about by your lack of resources. You need to have one of those two things, if you have neither then you should find something else to do otherwise you are going to be miserable.

Watch some videos from this channel. Maybe it'll clear up what's possible and what isn't with your current resources.
