If you kill the escapees you don't have to worry about shit, you killed them, time to go forth. Take whatever equipment they left behind and prepare to keep on assaulting.
If you let them run there's two main chances.
-They become logistic burdens and panic the other units
-They become reinforcements for another unit
In the beforetimes you used to purposefully injure the escapees so that they became even more of a burden to your enemy, because even for the russians they're bound to just be used as meat to be placed on the next trench.
So, overall, it's better to just kill them.

1. Is all that grey smoke around the IFV on their initial advance from their own cannons or were they taking accurate fire that far out?
2. The IFVs looked to be unloading autocannon fire for a good chunk of time before their infantry exited and began their assault. How long, in a perfect world, do the vehicles suppress the enemy position before infantry is supposed to dismount.
3.You see the IFVs back off after the infantey begin to manuever. Do they move offline to act as the supoort by fire element, or do they retreat to cover until the infantry calls them back after the assault has ended?

Grey smoke starts on the advance at around 0:50. IFVs unload on Russian positions starting around 1:15, while the infantry exit the vehicles at 1:45. IFVs begin their retreat at 2:00, but it doesn't show if they reposition or retreat back to cover.

they retreat because otherwise they're an easy target for arty, they may or may not be called depending on how long the infantry wants to camp in that new defensive position, they may stay there for quite some time. or get replaced by a different group who will actually hold the trench.
From what it seems like, yes, it's gunpowder smoke.
The IFVs suppress the position until the infantry is close enough to be able to engage the enemy position.
Because they have to move to both not get targeted by artillery and because they need t ensure that the infantry isn't dabbed by reinforcements; or find a position from where they can use whatever depression their guns have to get the leftovers in case the infantry's having a hard time.

Anything larger risks getting dabbed on by artillery, there's enough drones and the lines have been static enough so that large movements can be pinpointed (even if roughly by the Russians) to degrade them.
Plus, attacks like this, if they are indeed trickled down by artillery, have the particularity to be prime material for counter-battery radars without risking many troops, which means that you can delete a Russian squad/platoon all the while also getting an enemy battery mission-killed.
