Tank COMBAT as sport idea

before you say anything yes i know there is tank sport, but thats performance test not what i mean

what i mean is more like senshado'u from girls und panzer anime

tanks have normal armour, maybe some weaker ones are reinforced, some older ones can also get engine upgrade. but the hull stays the same

The entire tank is coated with sensors that detect impacts and are configured to simulate penetration and internal damage

tanks shoot shells made from soft metal like lead that is unable to penetrate the armour. but gives strong enough impact so the sensors can calculate it

when sensors calculate that tank is unable to continue combat its disabled and its done for the match, recovery team is to be sent afterwards

Exiting the tank or even leaning out of the coupola is prohibited. machine guns are only allowed to use JHP ammo

Winning conditions coud go from just eliminating the enemy, eliminating one specific enemy (flag tank). capturing a zone, defending a zone, ecc

Overall it coud get kickstarted with some money, mostly at the legal stuff and sensor technology and few old tanks so they are cheap. like 6-12 t34's or m4's modded. Later on as teams whoud form they whoud get their own tanks but there whoud be weight groups to enforce ballance. All sensors and ammo have to be checked by the organiser before the match

dosent sound too bad huh?

No but it would most likely flop hard.

    1. Use robots, that would filter a lot of morons
    2. Any projectile should be self-destroyed to avoid stray projectiles

the ranges the fighting would take place at would make it uninteresting to watch in most cases. you could artificially shorten the guns range and/or limit the size of the area.
I would go with some kind of paint or powder rounds and maybe make it so you have to hit the enemy tank 3 times at least. it would help make the matches last longer and be more interesting.

Technical combat sports would be much more interesting. Shorter ranges, higher speeds, probability of interesting crashes and the armor and weapons being to a degree in balance would ensure for exciting match ups.

    Mine is Drone Wars.
    >Arena is 5km2 of outdoor space away from people and sufficiently marked off as a dangerous area
    >Each team has a "goal", a big truck filled with Tanneritie and Gasoline for a huge fireball explosion on kill, which the team can attempt to hide on their side of the field, with the condition that it must be hidden in an hour or less using only hand tools or their drones for hiding it
    >Teams have 10 operators each, if that means 10 different drones or 8 small drones and one big pilot/gunner one etc is up to them, teams bring their own designs in with anything goes rules, only size restriction is that the entire team needs to be able to transport the drone team and drones to the staging area using a single vehicle
    >Counter Strike rules- team wins a round when either the objective is destroyed or all the enemy drones are defeated

i never flew a drone but i bet alot of the times they whoud run out of ammo before they shoot eachother down

      small mobile targets
      cant carry too much rounds

doesn't sound bad but it would cost way too much money
    >fuel for tanks
    >tank coated with sensors
    >weak tank armor and engine upgrade
    >have to manufacture shells with softer material (both R&D and manufacturing cost)

You shouldn't be trying to kickstart it. Nobody's going to watch it when they've got those robot fights.

You should be trying to adapt this design idea into a method of training and then shilling it toward thirdie militaries. Like SOFEX stuff.

How about we don’t? It’d be expensive, boring and not remotely realistic anyway

    That could be pretty fun.
    >Make picrel with accordance to modern armour engineering. Double thickness, depleted uranium/ceramics/other IDK.
    >Required to have somatic sensors inside the hull to detect tremours.
    >Modern tank engine has to have limiters to ensure authentic levels of horsepower and subsequent speed in the up-armoured vehicle.
    >Rounds are designed to be too brittle, and shatter on armour. Sensors are calibrated to analyze impact patters on sections of the hull that, were the rounds live and the armour authentically thin, correspond to an engine kill.
I'd play it. It'd be super-expensive, so sponsorship would be an absolute must-have.

Using real tanks would be a huge logistical nightmare. They're really heavy and hard to move around so breakdowns and maintenance are a big hassle. Also parts availability is terrible. Heck, even moving the tanks to a different spot to compete is a huge logistical challenge.

A better idea is to make special vehicles specifically designed for sport combat. Make them small enough to transport on an ordinary trailer without the need for an oversize load permit. Make the armor very light, just strong enough for basic safety. Use a standardized engine and powertrain borrowed from an existing vehicle, like a skid loader or an Ag tractor. Have the guns fire inert ammunition. All the various vehicle parameters like speed, armor, effectiveness of the gun, etc, can all be controlled by computer. They could either mimic the performance of historical tanks or they could allow customization. For example, if a team wanted to add more armor then the computer would slow down the tank to simulate the extra load on the engine. Hits and "damage" would all be simulated by computer.
