>tell chick I'm into guns
>woah anon that's so cool I've always wanted to go shooting!!
>tell her we can go next weekend
>bugs me nonstop about what she wants me to bring
>day comes
>hand her a 9mm pistol I have with a compensator and heavy guide rod for as little recoil as possible
>shoots it once
>horror washes across her face and puts the gun down immediately
>"it's too loud"
>i made her double up ear pro and everything ffs
>refuses to shoot anything for the rest of the trip
>b***h I paid for 2 hours and you made me bring like 6 guns wtf?
>shoot at stuff myself until she's starts up with the can we leave now??
she's the one that wanted to come ffs
i don't think I'll be doing this again.
maybe I'll invest in a 22 pistol or something so I can give that to chicks next time idk

i think a lot of girls are like dogs in the sense that they feed off your vibes. guys are sometimes like that too but its rarer. i digress. anyway she probably didn't *really* care that much about guns but she saw your excitement for guns and she wanted to be a part of that. then she actually fired a gun and it put her in shock. and then you probably weren't attentive to that so she was probably a little miffed over that.

but yes i think i'd start someone off with a .22 or a .22lr. also if you like this girl i would give it another try with her because the whole "gets excited about your interests" is imo a good feature to have

Most overrated thing you can do.

Take someone you don't know to an activity that scares them, is dirty, is loud, and cramped where communicating is hard to do.
Hand someone that mainly shops and eats food others prepare for recreation a deadly weapon.
You dont know them, have not screened them, and think its fun they are a hazard to yourself and others that didnt choose to bring them to the range.

It costs a lot to both rent the lane and whatever else, and use a bunch of ammo. Probably 2-5x a normal date depending on calibers. Yet they dont appreciate it, feel like it was something they did for you, and now want you to make it up to them doing something extra girly or expensive.

Yeah uh no. Get a friend instead.

If you're gonna take someone shooting, especially a date, someone new, take em to an empty outdoor range, gamelands, or a place out in the middle of the woods and bring some .22s and maybe a 9mm or shotgun. You're not going there for training, you're going there to have fun and enjoy yourselves, so bring the stuff that's enjoyable to shoot, especially for someone new. If they truly have no interest, then no harm done. If they do, then you can up the ante a bit. Biggest caliber I'd bring is a 9mm or 20gauge first time around. .32acp or .25acp is a nice intermediary between .22 and 9mm.

You do this at the end, making sure she's got earpro on, after saying, "You wanna see something cool?" If she's enjoyed the rest of the time and you think she can handle more.

        >. Biggest caliber I'd bring is a 9mm

a metal-framed .45 is the best choice for women. it has a fun, powerful kick that is mostly absorbed by the weight of the gun. ask any girl whos gone shooting what their favorite gun was and they will always say the .45

Not arguing the good feel of a steel framed .45, but it's definitely not a fresh blooded newbie cartridge. As mentioned above, if you're getting the implication that she can handle more, bust it out and see how she likes it. Otherwise, just keep it in the bag. Most people, gun people or not, enjoy shooting .22 or .32acp. .45, while it admittedly does feel nice, feels nice because as people who understand firearm feel and shooting and have a range of experience in calibers, we know how others feel I'm comparison and a .45 steel frame feels decent most of the time.

So I took my wife shooting for the first time a while back. Ran some 22lr through a neos, ran some 22lr through a h&r doubleaction 646.. put the 22 mag cylinder in and let her shoot some of that. Ask if she wants to try 1911. She does “wow that kicks more!” Shoots 3 more mags worth.. she did not try 45 Lc or 454 through the Alaskan. But she didn’t have a bad time.

This. I’d also recommend starting at home. When I taught my 2 brother in laws, I started the lesson at home first, where they won’t be distracted. Once you’re at the range with guns out n ready, their mind is gone. At home, we go over range rules, muzzle safety, and basic function of the gun. So far we’ve had no issues or accidents.

      Bad advice f a m.

Start with a .22, for sure, but part of the appeal of shooting is the recoil and report. Both the girlfriends I've taken shooting enjoyed my 5.56 and 12g more than my .22 even on her first range trip. The larger guns are more exciting, more dramatic.
Of course, if they find those calibers too loud or scary then drop back down to .22 or 9mm but give them the opportunity to try something more fun first.

Definitely support the outdoor range/innawoods sandpit advice.
Indoor ranges a shit unless that's really your only option.

How did yall reveal your power level to your woman who is anti-gun (she has a caregiver perspective and fears a kid touching one but neither of us has kids) also thinks some people play with their guns too much.

It's been bothering me because that has been the primary red flag for me who most certainly plays with his guns too much.
      >She thinks I only have a Mosin and a revolver
      >I have far more than this

Try taking her shooting? Just present it casually, like handling a gun is a basic thing she ought to know how to do if she's going to be dating a gun owner and spending time at your place.

    >start her on 22
I mean it's not a bad idea, they say that for every new shooter but it's just not the same. 22LR felt closer to shooting a BB gun to me than it did a 9mm.

    Anyway

I've taken each of my GFs shooting, they usually either dislike it or they're "eh" about it. The only one that actually enjoyed it and was not intimidated, but rather shot very well, was the woman I went on to marry. We went back shooting several times.

Literally me. I love brown women with a passion yet hold radical opinions on race in my head. Funny thing is, my fiancé and her family are legal immigrants that came to the states a decade ago. She paid and earned her own citizenship and works very hard. And she fricking despises illegal immigrants and has some pretty hot takes on other minorities. Almost as if it’s a class thing, not a white thing.

First conversation I had with her was a shouted debate about the importance (or lack thereof) of the 2nd amendment and why we would not in fact be better off copying England and Australia. Invited her shooting that weekend to continue the argument.

    >Ran her through safety on an unloaded gun
    >Started her off on a .22. Moved up to 9mm, 5.56 and 12g pretty quickly. Blew up a bunch of coke bottles and other reactive targets. Ran some basic shooting drills.

It really annoys me when guys force their caliber preference on women. Yeah .45 and 9 is great and preferable, but for limp wristers. Women just don’t care about payload whatsoever. They just want something easy to shoot, so let them shoot and carry a .22. Stop giving women snub nose .38s, they will not use them.

does body weight make recoil feel lower because the shooter has more inertia or does it feel higher because you have less give?
