Larping as the Martian
You can just plant potatoes right out of the bag
I have them all in buckets of dirt in my apartment under Home Depot grow lights
It only takes 2 months to get brand new potatoes. I grow them off-set in tandem so I have new potatoes every week
This is literally free food. Why doesn’t everyone do this? Are people stupid?
>Are people stupid?
Yes.
Yields? Always heard potatoes do poorly in pots. Do you 'mound' within the buckets or just plant and forget?
We don't, cause it is faster to just work and buy them. I get 20 bucks an hour as an intern, which is enough to finance my entire potato usage of a month.
How much work are you doing though? Potatoes are cheaper than the dirt you're growing them in, you're probably making a lot less than minimum wage. Get into indoor mushroom farming if you actually want ROI. I can convert hardwood pellets into any kind of mushroom at scale at over 150% efficiency.
What is your secret
It's too long to explain the whole process but I learned everything by just googling it. Also I've made some long threads on PrepHole explaining how to do it if you check the archive.
Yeah blue oyster, this is how they look when they finish
What kind of mushrooms are those?
Never seen anything like this in my life
I'm guessing blue oysters
Currently have some in a pot, first time trying this.
Whatever the outcome, I will probably use that pot as a compost, because other stuff is growing well and can only profit from compost soil.
>It only takes 2 months to get brand new potatoes
Gee, wait a couple months for a handful of "free" potatoes or pay $5 for a bag at the store and eat them now?
It is worthy to note that purple potatoes have about 2x the ROI of normal potatoes while tasting very similar.
Purple potatoes are healthier for you but they have a sandier texture.
Just back from the garden after having to cull over half my potato plants due to blight, this is part of what I was able to salvage. Checked up on them the other day and all was well, went out this morning and the place was riddled with it. Don't hold out much hope for the remainder but fingers crossed, only hope it doesn't spread to my tomatoes in the tunnel. I'm Irish so let the jokes flow but I'm gutted at the moment, all that time and effort for nothing except ridges I can't use for the next 3 to 5 years till the spores die
Turn that shit over and mix a bunch of ash into the soil
My diet has consisted of oatmeal in the morning and a plate full of potatoes, sauerkraut and sausages with a side of random veggies from the fridge in the evening for a couple weeks now. This is probably not sustainable in the long run but so far I'm feeling ok.
All things considered, that's probably a pretty decent diet.
Are the Brits back to rationing again?
Honestly probably a healthier diet than 99% of people.
>Why doesn’t everyone do this
I have been trying for three years now but every time my potatoes are both a lot smaller than the original and taste like trash so its not that easy. I can grow berries, garlic, ginger and Tomatoes fine hell even the okra I got grew huge and delicious but not potatoes.
Potatoes are not worth the energy used by grow lights you moron.
>This is literally free food. Why doesn’t everyone do this? Are people stupid?
it's nowhere near that simple. clearly you've never tried otherwise you wouldn't be lying about it
I just get free gov handouts and free food from the government in the us. Are people fricking moronic for not doing this? Why would your ear potatoes when you can have blocks of moldy milk products like me?
