you'd be surprised how many departments don't supply rifles or shotguns. you end up with some officers carrying poverty ponies

if they're well funded, they'll have the same kinds of stuff we all do. if they're well funded and have a SRT/SWAT, they're probably loaded down with HK MP5's, maybe a single UMP somewhere in the locker, USP 45's, a Colt select fire M4. Nothing special.

But like I said, a lot of them have to buy their own stuff...so... it is what it is.

Frick you you stupid homosexual lying young ass know nothing b***h. Since 9/11 and the patriot act the government has been giving bearcats and armored apcs along with cammies and soldier gear to every little shit frick frick police department across the country. They took away your privacy and militarized the police in the same move. You dumb b***hes are stupid or lying.

A department can own a bearcat and still require you buy most of your own gear. A lot of times cops get trouble on the news for having punisher logos and obscenities written on there guns. The Daniel shaver shooting the cop had "your fricked" etched into his gun. It was his AR not his departments.
Look at a job application for your local sheriff's office a lot of time you'll see them say to have $2000 to buy gear from the cop shop.
Also that is why "cop shops" exist. Google it there are stores dedicated to selling to cops with out of pocket funds.
My department was a mix you had to buy a few things but they provided most. You had the choice between your AR or one they provided. Most guys opted to bring there own because tricked out how they liked it and it's what they would shoot on the weekend at the range. Most places provide there own radios and get some NODs for the swat guys because they can be to pricey by themselves.

Riiight, but due to some shady shit in the patriot act literally who tier cities like ector county sheriffs in texas got a free bearcat and military gear for free and used it to round up those guys who were protesting outside of a bar during the lockdowns. You know, that one picture that demoralizer glowies like to crop the tank out of. Thats not a funding thing, the gov just gave shit out for free because they didnt need it anymore, just like they gave all our shit to the taliban almost.

The funny part was I was remembering a paper I had to make years back and one of the citations talked about it being the largest criminally detonated explosive until the wtc bombing. But the wtc bombing was 93 so I must have misread it or it was just incorrect. I know I didn’t misremember it because I had to give a presentation outlining it and that was kind of my “they are more dangerous than you think” headine

I had a relative who used to be a cop. Whenever there was a shooting situation (usually with gangs) he mentioned they would always take their time to get to the scene because nobody on the force wanted to get shot back. The whole lot of them are cowards.
There was also this one time when we were talking about guns and I showed him my conceal carry piece. He mentioned I had a better grasp of gun safety than most police officers. Take that as you will.

gang shooting =/= mass shooting. Let the hood rats kill each other since the DA's now literally allow it to happen under "mutual combat" laws. Its not worth getting shot or sued. What happened in Texas was straight up incompetence and them being cowards though

          Anonymous

Its more that getting there quickly accomplishes nothing. Gangbangers killing each other is a self-correcting issue. And I can confirm most cops are morons and dont know shit about guns. For every cop who is a gun guy, theres like 6-8 who dont know or care about them.

      Anonymous

      lol. in texas? sure bud.

Youll find alot of suburban swat teams relatively well outfitted. BCM/ DD, LWRC, POF, PWS for carbines. Sigs or Glocks usually for sidearms. Some go with a version of MC, others straight Navy Blues, Blacks, Forest greens. Many departments have pretty solid funding. Not all are like Uvalde (heavily funded but wont jump in).

        Anonymous

Pretty sure that depends on the state. Texas has a pretty good outfit of SWAT teams in their cities.

Large agencies get a lot of good gear. Very high end armor, rifles, NODs, you name it. But broke ass areas or podunk areas most don't issue rifles. Theres agencies near me who don't even give their road cops computers in their cars. The team I worked with provided their own rifles and used very bulky iotv-esque armor. Old school throat mics, no night vision at all, and deploy in an unarmored unmarked ambulance. By the time I quit they started providing semi-auto DPMS SBRs with sightmarks. Nothing else changed. The team one county over had two bearcats, but the windows were so fogged up they couldnt drive them. That team also had full auto daniel defense rifles but none of them had any idea how to use the full auto effectively. Just rednecks with cool toys. Now an hour north of us were highky trained, high op tempo teams who were very well equipped and trained. It all varies. People dont understand how broadly it varies in the US.

      Anonymous

To continue: That first team I mentioned was part time and the monthly training days we just shot static paper targets and did dynamic entry drills. The ambulance used for operations (knicknamed the "TAB" for tactical assault bus) was a complete piece of shit that we had to jump start every time we wanted to use it. If somebody shot at it, the rounds would zip through easy. I was a patrol officer for 4 years before quitting bc frick being a cop. My issued 870 was from the early 1990s, was 4+1, no lights allowed on it. My issued rifle was a DPMS with a knockoff eokek from a brand called Sightmark. The optics didnt work on half the guns. My pistol was a Glock 31 but the barrels were swapped out with .40 cal barrels to save money. My computer's CAD software was from like 2009 and we wouldnt update to save money. The kicker to all this is the municipality I worked for was extremely wealthy due to tourism. They just didnt give a frick about the PD much. We were way better off than some of the podunk county depts nearby too. So the idea that the police in the US are all highly trained and gucci'd out stormtroopers is wrong. Some of them 100% are. But its not the majority.

  7. 2 years ago

Depends on what department you're talking about. Most departments have people buying their own gear, so sometimes its not any different than tactical larpers buying gear on the civilian market.

      Anonymous

Ammo for police depts in my state is purchased via state contract. Meaning you contact a guy who gets you ammo direct from manufacturer. Theres a list you buy from and 5.7 isnt on that list. For many departments that alone is readon enough to disregard it out of hand.

I don't see your point other than being edgy because you got a DUI once.

Now if we want to talk about the real issue of "militarisation" of the police in the US you just have to look at what happened after WW2 and Vietnam when a bunch of soldiers retired and became the majority of new cops, and brought their culture with them, which hasn't gone away with the GWOT. European police forces have many more elite police units yet most western European police forces don't talk to people like they are in Baghdad.

    >problems with crime
Why the frick hasn't America instituted a civilian bounty hunter system for dealing with crime?
    >shoot gangbanger = $500
    >shoot illegal alien = $1000
A good weekend would virtually eliminate crime in the US and would generate a lot of wealth.

They have the same shit you see in /poorgay general/. Low-end plates, 9mm pistols, and cheap AR15s.

I took a tour of the local SWAT headquarters while I was taking part in a citizen's police academy course. They had a Bearcat, 40mm launchers, all kinds of great rifles, shields, a bomb robot, and other stuff. I live in a fairly small city in the Midwest and I can't believe how well equipped these guys are. It literally made me think I don't ever want to commit a crime that would cause these guys to come after me.

What exactly is a citizens police academy? Sound potentially interesting.

It varies, since PDs or Sheriff's are always a subsidiary to the local government. With a lot of departments, their SWAT dudes or even patrol just have plate carriers and AR-15s that are personally purchased by the officer, and are basically not different than what you or I could buy. In fact, it might be the same for most of their daily patrol equipment, other than tasers. Their vests might be issued, but the kevlar vest itself could be expired by several years, so they'll need to buy their own.
The exception tends to be certain kit they can buy up from military surplus at discount: usually helmets, night vision goggles, etc. I saw a local department SWAT that looked straight out of Mogadishu once, because they also get cheap uniforms. Makes no sense to me. They should just slap the kit on their regular uniform (maybe they don't want the ID).
If you look closely at the OP pic, all the excess body armor isn't actually military garb. It's riot gear to stop blunt bashes or glancing edged weapons. Plus they have all these extra bags and holsters for shit like CS gas, OC spray, tasers, medical bags etc. So, in effect, SWAT and riot cops often look more "militarized" than actual soldiers, because they have all this extra kit that assumes nonlethal confrontations. But a lot of that shit would be useless in war.

I didnt have to think about it until I saw my local LEOs the other day whike at work. Had an armed response from a false active shooter report. Poverty ponies...

Ended up being that an alarm was tripped somewhere out back and no one had responded to it, let alone be nearby to hear it.

Well HK-5, M4, Humvees, Apache helicopers, Abrams tanks in case it's a drug lord.

Also, some units especially from the US coast guard police got Javelins, Stingers and MRLS

If you can kill a criminal with a missile no need to take the risk of getting close.

        Cool footage!
Still would have preferred an attack submarine to finish it off with a torpedo

A program called “1033,” for the section of the act that created it, allows the Department of Defense to give state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies military hardware. Since its inception in 1996, nearly 10,000 jurisdictions have received more than $7 billion of equipment.May 12, 2021

Deadly MRAPs and black rifles of assault destruction don't belong in the hands of civilians! -t. you
