Stuff you got for this season

This thread is for you to show the class what you added to your gear for this season.

Here's what I'm looking to get:
>New camping stove
>Two person sleeping pad

Chinese jetboil knock off blew a seal and nearly took me out last season, need recommendations for something that's not too bulky. Don't care that much about weight since I'm now limited to car/motorcycle/kayak camping.

I hate how you can't actually cook with these. All they do is heat water ypu add some overpriced freeze dried food to. I have one and it's okay but I really ought to get one of these.

The chinaman one actually had a little pad that you can put a pot on, it was great until it blew up.
I was thinking about getting one like that, but they're quite big.

It's more of a base camp thing to have for going camping with the goal of hunting or fishing or hanging out with friends or family, not a backpacking thing. I like that they are usable indoors as well. My japanese friend uses one for these like pancakes with purple cabbage in them and for hotpots in the middle of the table. Point being It's not a unitasker, you can use it in your home kitchen as well because butane is indoor safe while propane is more dangerous.

That's actually pretty neat, didn't know these were indoor safe.

You want to crack a window still for a bit of an oxygen draft.

is there any way to make a solar panel work? Sure the phone always being charged is nice and so is not having to sit at mcdonalds all day, but i was thinking about getting a heating pad that would replace the sleeping pad, and maybe getting an electric stove powered off usb, does such a thing even exist? What would be some other uses that would mean bringing less shit

Not possible. They max out at 20w/sqft/hr. The sun only produces 100w/sqft/hr on a sunny day and current solar is ~20% efficient. Buy a gas heater or just add a blanket inside your sleeping bag. You would be surprised how much a cheap polyesther comforter blanket stuffed into a shitty ~30F rated bag will keep you warm. Walmart sells them for like $25 now, but before the covid hoax in 2019 they had polyesther queen comforters for $10.

Thought so. Do you think it'd be worth it to bring just so you don't gotta loiter around at some random place all day? A wall plug weighs hardly anything so worst case you could just use that

What would you need it for exactly? Your cellphone? Just bring an external battery.

i need it so im not sitting outside some random place all day or spending money on a hotel for the sole purpose of charging my phone kek. i dont think thats insane and if someone brings it up i can just say im trying to save the planet lol

Oh just for your phone? They have ones you can hang off your backpack but seriously just buy an external battery pack. Unless you are through hiking off grid for 5 days you won't need more than one or two of those.

thats what i meant. yea its for a thru hike and everytime im always sitting all day outside some random shack charging my shit and its awfully annoying idk how yall do it but thats just been my experience

Just get one of these. It's both an external battery and a solar charger. Hang it off your shoulder or backpack or put it in a clear plastic case on the top strap.

i dont think those generate enough charge, and eventually id be stuck in the same predicament. i got a 15 watt panel and a 10000 mah bank and ill try it out, another issue ive had is my power banks not holding nearly the charge advertised so theyve been essentially worthless. im hoping with the panel that wont matter

Why would you buy a knockoff Jetboil?

It was what they had on the shelf and I needed one that weekend. It's actually a decent little stove and I might have fricked the O ring myself by over tightening it.

Buy a regulated canister stove like Soto Windmaster or MSR Pocket Rocket 2.

Sleeping pads are highly subjective. Read the reviews at Sectionhiker or comparable. The earth is an energy magnet -- get off the ground and ensure you have at least minimal R value.

You have to do resistance training, flexibility training, and cardio or your body falls to shit. I don't need to not be able to tie my shoes at 50 because I never stretched.

Titanium cup, pot, pan and BRS-3000t.
I use the cup for tea regularly. I'm extremely autistic and the texture of the titanium is very soothing.

Overxthe winter I bought a new hammock system: eno supersub, helios suspension, guardian sl bug net and a profly xl sil tarp. A polartec power dry hoody, new softshell jacket, a super light windbreaker, some light hiking pants, an almost waterproof 40L backpack to use for packraft daytrips, some straps and new shoes.

Next I will upgrade to a lighter sleeping bag and I’m concidering getting a down underquilt. I also need a new gas burner and a merino shirt.

Picked up an xmid 1 for the spring/fall which completes my shelter collection.
I just use a tarp in winter bc no bugs and a hammock when it's warm enough to not need an underquilt. In the summer I'll probably pick up an ultralight hammock because mine is heavy Amazon garbage.
