Steel cased ammo thread.

I've been getting this stuff locally for about 10$ a box. 9mm cycles fine through most of autoloading pistols, and Century Arms knockoff AK.

Constant jams in my Ruger SR and Chinese SKS. Is it the ammo or my firearms? Is it worth attempting to reload or just scoop the empties for scrap?

    >Constant jams in my Ruger SR and Chinese SKS
Be more specific. Failures to feed? Failures to eject? Stovepipes?

    >worth attempting to reload
you cannot reload steel case. They're just worth plain 'ol steel scrap rates which is a fraction of the value of brass. At least it's easy to pick them up with a magnet.

      >Right. Specifics.

In my Ruger SR, it's stovepipes. I could look at it as good practice for clearing failures, but it gets annoying when its two or three rounds a mag.

The Chinese SKS it's failures to feed. I've cleaned the fricking thing a bunch of times. When I got it it was packed in that gooey communist grease. Got it for free on a trade.

Polish the chamber, sounds like you didn't get all the cosmoline out of it. Mineral spirits and a metal bristle brush. Get in the nooks with a dental pick or something similar. If it doesn't feed well that's a sure sign it's still gummy all over.

I've been sitting here taking it apart again. Looks like you are right, there seems to be a thin layer of what looks like varnish left on the interior of the magwell, and nooks around the trunion(sp)and in the corners of the grooves where the bolt slides.

Would taking a Dremel and a fine stone to the feed ramp make a difference? Cycling it with a snapcap, the tip of the cartridge seems to be binding it up between there and the bolt face. How stiff should the return spring be? Because it's not as firm as my Century AK.

Weird - I too have a Norinco SKS, and it *only* shoots steel case. I tried brass in it once and it actually got jammed in the chamber - Sonab***h expanded to the point I had to use the cleaning rod and an extension and slam the case out.

Is this a milsurplus SKS or one made for the civilian market? Can you also post pictures of the magazine and the bolt open from the top? I am assuming of course you're using the original magazine and you didn't bubba that poor thing.

      >you cannot reload steel case
      Actually his posed question of
      >is it worth attempting to reload
      was a better framing.
You actually can reload steelcase, it just isn't worth all the extra effort.

I know. Impossibru. My Century AK eats it like candy out of pmags even. But the SKS has trouble feeding the stuff from the internal mag. I've dinked with it a bit, but larptube and google haven't been much of a help identifying the exact cause.

I used to get steel cased 9mm from a local guy for $5.99 a box. Shit was cash. But this was also around the time you could bill order 1000 rounds of brass cased 9mm “reloads” for $150 shipped

steelcase ammo jamming a ruger is normal, but jamming a comblock gun is bizarre, that's the gun that shit steelcase was literally amde for.

      >Lazy.

I stripped it down completely out of the stock and soaked it in kerosene overnight and went over it with a brush.

Hang the rifle and heat it somehow, using a heat gun or hair drier or even a space heater so you don't have to sit there and baby it. Do the stock separately from everything else.

Probably shouldn’t be loading 9mm into an SKS

It’s a shame most steel cased Russian ammo will soon cease to exist on shelves, I’ve found Magtech ammo to be nearly as cheap, and very reliable.

Here’s a random Glock tip about steel case that comes from Marine Gun Builder back when he was around:

    1) use a Gen 3
    2) install the Gen 4 ejector, which has a better shape
    3) drop $50 on a performance extractor from Apex Tactical, it’s worth it
    4) don’t forget to use the non-LCI plunger
    5) polish EVERYTHING really smooth with a felt Dremel tool, first with Flitz and then with mother’s

Your Glock will then eat every shitty steel case round you throw at it, mixed with brass does not matter, and it will eject every time… and to the side, not in your face.

      Oh yeah:
Don’t polish the tip of your firing pin, or your extractor. Shouldnt need to be said but, you know… tards and so on.

I have a few boxes of Tula 9mm but now I’m not sure if I even want to shoot it. If imports get fricked I kind of want to just keep it as a sort of collector thing. I know it sounds gay but still. I like Igman for cheap blasting ammo anyways.
