Stealing mailboxes

Someone stole my mailbox. It sat about 10-feet off the road so I know it's not vandalism. Any suggestions on how to secure a new one to the existing 4x4 post to prevent theft?

this has been happening since the 60's
theres been no real solution besides building a big ass concrete/brick structure to house it, or remove the mailbox entirely and get a p.o. box
anything you put there will likely still get vandalized

Yes. It's $30 at a rural post office, to have a box for 6 months at a time. Ideally, use the same rural post office that ordinarily handles your mail, so when they sort it, it just goes into a box at the same facility. They will hold packages, but unlike post offices at the more population-dense areas, they do not offer 'unit numbers'; what is called 'Street Addressing' or 'Enhanced Services'. You'll have to arrange something with the local clerk if that's the case.

The post office, in their infinite wisdom, shuffled which post offices handle which routes and addresses in the last couple of years. I've seen this rurally, in two distant locations; it was part of some nationwide reorganization. If you can get a box at the same post office that ordinarily handles the street address's mail, do it. Because many vendors will not send to POB (though essentially the post offices take many types of packages now), you'll use your street address and add the box number as a second line. This and a little chat with the clerk ahead of time, lets them know to route all mail to the PO box, that nothing should go to the street address.

Where do you live, fricking Mayberry?

They literally make a note somewhere. Idk how they do it behind the counter, specifically. But yes it was a friendly chat. Stay away from the cities, unless you are a perpetual victim of enrichment violence.

Yes. There are 1-2 clerks and the nearest postmaster is 30 miles away at the larger post office in the next town. That one, is big enough to have a Walmart! This area didn't have street names and addresses 10 years ago. I'm good with that.

Very little property taxes. Look up in the county that you want to move to, check with the county office if there are properties with unpaid property taxes. You can get stuff that way for way cheaper than listed properties. These people looking at Zillo are NGMI. e.g. A guy locally, bought a whole restaurant with everything in it, all the stainless and equipment, for $35,000. Ample parking, right at a thoroughfare junction. Moved his business in there and he's already making cash.

I don't expect any details, but could you tell us which state you live in. I live in NC (Mayberry ha ha) so I suppose if I could abandon the city life and move to the sticks I might be happier.
