Yeah it’s pretty easy, if you can cook macaroni and cheese you can make soap. However making your own recipes is a challenge since oils have like six different properties you need to balance. Protip: use pure lye crystals, Drano has titanium salts that are bad for your skin.
It’s also a fricking stupid hobby for hippy women. But you should at least consider making your own deodorant since the aluminum salts they put in most brands will eventually give you Alzheimers. Making shaving soaps to use with a straight razor is a great way to flex on normies too.
I don't shave so I don't need shaving soaps.
I just want to make some soap for fun, as i understand it I can basically use any water based liquid and any fat, which sounds fun.
Any fat can turn into a soap. My first one was vegetable (palm) oil from a supermarket. It turned into a rancid pile of crap, but it was soap.
If you use olive oil or coconut oil/butter you’ll be golden. Depending on what else you’ll add it’ll either be lathery or bubbly, or if you’re a little baby princess you can make bath bombs or decorative soaps. If you use milk or beer instead of water it will add properties too, but it will react with the lye violently. With that I should say go find a good book on soapmaking for other safety tips and don’t really on blogs or internet too much.
>aluminum salts they put in most brands will eventually give you Alzheimers
enough with this stupid fricking meme. aluminum in deodorant has never been linked to alzheimers. never. not once. shut the frick up.

You mean peer reviewed studies by leading alzheimers researchers?
Its objective fact alzheimers patients have heavy metals (with an emphasis on aluminum) in the body where normal people dont.
Im sure you heard they linked Talcum Powder to Ovarian cancer recently, like within the last 5 years.
All the companies changed their baby powder products from Talc to Cornstarch right?
The first studies that showed a link between Ovarian Cancer and Talc were all the way back in 1971.
The scientific process takes decades and decades before people can point to something, without a doubt and will full research to say X does Y.
We are currently in the "everyone fights over what the studies mean" phase. Itll be decades before there are definite without a doubt links.
>aluminum in deodorant has never been linked to alzheimers.
Aluminum in the body has been found in almost all people with alzheimers
There has been no scientific cause found for why or how that aluminum gets there yet, all they know at this point is that its there and the believe it to be important.
If you were actively trying to avoid exposure since we dont understand it yet, maybe you should avoid grindin or sanding sanding blocks of aluminum without a mask on.
And it might be smart to avoid rubbing a concoction of it directly into your open pores every single day.

No convincing relationship between amount of exposure or aluminium in the body and the development of Alzheimer's disease has been established.

You mean the same leading researchers that chased Simufilam studies for 15 years because they were too moronic to think, "Hey, let's reproduce those results and ensure they're correct!"
Or the leading alzheimer researchers that indicated metabolized aluminum did not correlate with increased amyloid plaques?
Or the Alzheimer association's indicating that cooking with aluminum does not have any correlation with the development of alzheimers?
Or studies that showed aluminum deodorant *doesn't even get metabolized?*
But yea, trust those researchers and not the rest of the scientific community.

Yes I use a blend of palm oil, coconut oil, olive oil pomace, grapeseed oil and castor oil. I split the batch up into two after mixing and add activated charcoal to one of the halves and stir it back in before pouring to create a basic marbleized effect. Ace hardware sells cheap lye. Be careful with lye one time while mixing the raw soap some of it splattered on my forehead and it burned the frick out of me and I ended up with an ugly scab while it healed.
lmao I saw that same listing a while ago. Was tempted to grab a box for a nonprofit at my workplace and take a few for myself, but damn, I don't think even they would go through that much soap in a reasonable amount of time.
That guy on CL post it ever couple of weeks, bud. It's good soap, and worth its weight considering how much it goes for in retail. Ive given away a couple dozen bars, and people ask for more afterwards. It's literally this brand and make here
https://i.imgur.com/TlROvxT.jpg
You dont like free Dr Squatch or what? Its brand new, and usually has extra shea butter in it
many times for over 10 years now, started because I wanted my own shaving soap.
Check out many YT videos on cold process soap, use SoapCalc site for amounts, get a few supplies and keep them separate from other cooking utensils. Keep your coconut oil to 15%, 50% lard. Get 100% lye from your hardware store, use distilled water, get a stick blender. I use milk cartons for molds, or get silicone molds. Done.
I got a 5 pack of silicone oval bar molds for next to nothing on Etsy and made 100% tallow soap. Best soap I've ever used. Gonna make a lot more when my butcher slaughters cows again. Started because the dirt cheap hand soap I used went off the market.
Personally I don't really want to use either animal fats or palm oils. I'd like to exclusively use fats that I can cook with later and I don't really ever use lard or tallow. Instead of using lard can I just up the amount of coconut oil to like 30% and then just use like shea and coco butter, or some other hard fat?
I don't have anything against lard or tallow, I just don't usually cook with animal fats unless its like bacon grease or duck fat I've rendered from a different dish. I was raised to just use olive oil for everything so thats generally what I do.
You can certainly do that, 100% coconut oil (CO) is called "Naval Soap" can be used in very hard salty water. Olive Oil (OO) soap is a classic, but it's a soft 'slimy' soap. Go 80% OO and 20% CO, 5% superfat will work just fine. These can all be done cold process.
I was the same way then got into ghee and took the rendering tallowpill. Will never go back to olive oil. I do 10 lb at once in crock pots once a year.
I've been thinking about trying a project where I make soap then electrolyze it in water to form large hydrocarbons via Kolbe electrolysis to further process into fuel. Unfortunately I do not have electrodes for it yet, as apparently graphite doesn't work well as an anode for this purpose.
Is this essentially an electrolytic version of biodiesel production? I can see the advantage in that it produces hydrocarbons vs alcohols but what sort of energy input would be required?
a paper I found reported a coulomb efficiency of anywhere between 40-90% for turning valeric acid to octane, and the minimum voltage was 2.5V. Assuming an efficiency of 70%, It would take at minimum 344.5 Kjoules to produce half a mole of product (in this case 57 grams). The fuel would release significantly more energy than that in combustion. Traditional biodiesel may be a more efficient process, but this is more of an experimental project than anything
Platinum seems to be the norm, though other metals like iridium and maybe gold could be used, basically anything that's conductive and highly resistant to oxidation. One paper I found used lead dioxide, though I'd rather not for obvious reasons
Alright so this is what I'm thinking >Coffee instead of water >Roasted Coffee oil as some % of the fat >Used Coffee grounds as an exfoliant >Coffee fragrance >Shape the bars into giant coffee beans
Is there any way i can put more coffee into my soap? Ideally I want to smell like coffee. Can caffeine be absorbed through the skin?
Yes, people make coffee soap. Use grounds as an exfoliant and you can use coffee instead of water, but it will be changed in contact with lye. I would use regular water and add grounds at the end, could probably source coffee scent. If you want that much caffeine, take some pills.
put liquid caffeine on a bandaid and throw that shit over your median cubital vein, same goes w/nicotine...good way to introduce your body to transdermal absorption
>words words words
You're gonna have to find a solvent that can solvate hundreds of milligrams of caffeine in under a milliliter. It ain't gonna be water, bub. You're also gonna have to take into account whether or not caffeine can even traverse dermal tissue on its own. Otherwise, you might be in the ballpark of using DMSO to make the skin more permeable which introduces its own issues.
Don't pretend like you know what you're talking about because you post on PrepHole, chief.
>Rubbing soap that has been in some crackhead prostitute's ass crack and between the guy who just fricked her's dick and balls all over your face and mouth >Letting your wife and kids wash their hands with it before supper >Putting flowers and herbs in it to cope
Yeah I think I'd spring for some axe bodywash bro
No it doesn't, unless it's antibacterial soap. It just washes it away bro. But still you're like grinding up people's pubes and dingleberries and stuff when you put it in the meat grinder so all of that is mixed in. Little bits of chopped up pubes, gonorrhea drippings, dick and ball cooties, etc. I think I'll just bring some hand sanitizer when I come over man, no offense
any of you all have experience making your own lye with wood or charcoal ash? I can't seem to figure out a good way to measure the lye strength. the egg float test doesn't seems precise to me.
>I can't seem to figure out a good way to measure the lye strength
Have you ever heard of pH paper? Also lye should be able to dissolve aluminum (produces hydrogen gas in the process so don't light yourself on fire).
Also lye is created by mixing dissolved sodium or potassium carbonate with dissolved calcium hydroxide (Lime). The calcium binds to the carbonate to form calcium carbonate which precipitates out. Both of these can be found in ash, but to get good lime the ash has to be heated really hot (over 825°C). Also if you want you can bake the calcium into lime separately using something like limestone, dissolve it in water, and then add it to water you filtered through your ash. If it works you should get a precipitate.
So here's the thing. Traditional soap before we could chemically test the strength of lye and know its purity, we cooked soap by feel, this was the 'art' of soap making. Since we now know that hydroxide is 99% pure, we can use online tools like SoapCalc to make failsafe soap, so easy. In the past though, water and lye made from wood ash were mixed in a soap kettle outside with whatever fats they had and cooked until was fully converted by feel, I have actually done this. You can take a wooden paddle and watch the mix drip off the edge to judge its 'doneness', it should look like curdled milk.
It's really not worth the trouble, go to a hardware store an buy lye.
so what excatly is the toxic aluminium compound, reminder that pure aluminium does not exist under athmosphere. al2o3 which is a ceramic coating? alum thats been in use for eons?
the aluminium boogeyman is on the level of stating carbon is toxic because its present in all organic toxic compounds
no. i occasionally gather like 15 bar soaps at a time maybe once every year or two from foodbanks or churches. use that shit to was my hands after i poop. other than that i rinse my body with water and spray the shower head up my asscrack and armpit and scrub with my hand.
i shampoo and condition like once a month

100% tallow with 10% superfat is Saddle Soap, would really help to add 15% coconut oil.
Why? The soap is perfect as is (5% superfat, boerseep)
