OP: use a search engine and study some historical documents. There's just all sorts of pictures from WWII through Viet Nam. Some video, too. Before you start building, do some learning. Make a list of shit NOT to do:

[ X ] Etc. fill it in homework assignment
[ ]
There are flamethrowers available for purchase. Study those designs. Maybe look into a pre-assembled & working design, own or borrow one or whatever, get some hands-on experience. If you've a lick of common sense, should be a natural flow from there what you want to do next. Give it up, build a better one, whatever.

Technically yes. But if you live in a state with burn laws like me in California you are only allowed to use it on even days of the month or whatever your local jurisdiction is. Also the flame can only shoot a certain amount of distance out.
