Simplisafe

Is Simplisafe any good? I don't understand the point if the 'tower' thing is what makes the alarm noise, a burglar could just throw it out of a window or take the batteries out with a screwdriver

If you aren't paying for active monitoring a security system is just another deterrent except they're already in the house

I live in a condo so I think most burglars would run away if they heard an alarm

I suppose if the neighbors could actually maybe hear it
Your alarm would need to be by the hallway or whatever then tho

Actually looking at their site, you can buy a backup alarm so it's not just the tower that makes the sound

The tower is a flaw, because it doesn't actually signal the alarm company for like 30 seconds after it triggers. That gives a burglar time to find and disable it, which is pretty easy to do. I'd rather it be silent so they don't notice it.

I got rid of it because I live in a very low crime area, I decided it's not worth it to me to even pay for monitoring. It's very unlikely that police would show up on time and catch someone, more likely they'd just be like yep you got robbed, fill out these papers and we'll file them away forever.

I did replace my padlocks with double-keyed ones so when I leave for a while I hang up the keys out of each. It was cheaper than replacing the doors which have windows that anyone could easily smash and just reach in to unlock. Supposedly this is a fire hazard but I'll take that risk, I don't have kids or frequent guests that would be at risk.

I just want something that makes a loud noise to alert people nearby and scare the burglar. If there is no alarm, they can take their time looking in all cupboards etc. but if there is an alarm they'll want to be quick and just grab whatever random shit is on the table (nothing of value)

then you could get the add-on alarm which is much louder than the base station alarm. I think it can go outdoors too but 99.999% of people will ignore it if they hear it. At least indoors it's so loud that it's actually painful.
I don't think there's a way to use only that, the base station will sound as well, unfortunately giving away its location and providing a small window of opportunity to prevent it from signaling to the monitoring company.

Yeah I saw the additional alarm add-on. I will get that for sure. I don't think I will pay for monitoring though. Seems pointless. If they call the police they won't get there in time to stop the burglar anway

            Yep. False sense of security.

Nothing beats being out on the countryside with neighbors with guns, distance, dogs etc.

Citylife is exceedingly gay, and just begs sub-saharans or meth heads, to break into the dwelling that you think you own or occupy. Because they don't care about what you think. And if you think the cops will help, well, lol.

I like being in the city. good to meet people and more fun. maybe when im old i will move to a more rural area though

You know how many real women are in the city? None. And they have been bailing out for some time.
Life isn't about 'fun', it's about making your ancestors proud by creating babies that look reasonably like them, and doing your best to raise them.

I will do that when im 30. Anyone who doesn't live in a city who is age 16-27 is a loser who is missing out, sat in some random country town with a fat wife

There's even less woman out in the country. The m/f ratio is uneven as your get more rural

Nah, I've met kids (i mean the 16-27 yr olds, as you say) out here that aren't losers. You've got either ignorance and/or projection issues. That's fine; it keeps your ass childless and locked-up in the city. Enjoy your urban prison.

They're dead so no longer exist for you to serve, and why are descendants considered slaves to dead men's baggage?

    Stealing this thread
LifeShield out of the PA area, made an S30 unit. It came with 2 cameras, break in sensors, a keypad and a fire detector. The base unit had a 3G radio in case your internet was disconnected/power out, and in case of that, had it's own battery backup.

Monitoring was optional. Then the cokehead owners setup the company to be bought out, required monitoring, and ADT bought it. I have a unit from 2020. I called the company and wondered why I could not activate it with the app. They said it's LEASED to the person on the itemized packing list; a guy in town that for all I know passed-away. Stuff ends up at the local thrift all the time that way. So he's out of the picture.

I said 'Oh so you're claiming you OWN it? Then send me a shipping label and I'll send it back.' The low-tier account rep said 'I can't do that without FIRSTNAME LASTNAME on the line to give permission.' I said ok I'll throw it in the trash because he's dead.

ADT and these other monitoring companies are a scam. If you need that shit NGMI.

It's got an ethernet uplink, it's own wifi hotspot, and a USB-B jack. I was thinking about plugging in and messing around with it to see if there are any backdoors. I opened it, and it doesn't even have a hard drive. It's like an early version of that Ring equipment where you're just the eyes and ears of the 3-letter agency spooks.

We used to have a little joke, in the electronic access-control industry. about alarm sytems.
    >An alarm system is an electronic monitoring device, that, through a series of sounds and warning lights, informs you that the person who just stabbed you and is raping your wife, is not authorized to be on the premises and should leave immediately.

anybody who buys any kind of alarm system is a moronic boomer. get some cameras, a gun, and a big dog. practice proper security protocols and fortify every entrance to your house.

Simplisafe comes with a camera. Not every country has guns and having a dog would be annoying (pick up their shit and buy them food and take them to vet... frick that!)
But you're right about getting good doors and locks for your entrances

        >doesn't want the OG alarm system that also works as physical deterrent
Another plus is that they do dumb stuff that gives you small amounts of dopamine

From a 1337 hacker standpoint, a $.45 module from aliex or ebay can jam that shit solid. A skiddie with a FlipperZero can do it in with zero throught.

Supposedly they implement some degree of 433mhz jamming detection, but people have demoed this is weak at best.

That is why I wouldn't advertise what system you use. Also, I am not sure if this would work to disable every single sensor, not to mention the siren
