Turkey supports the UN-recognized government because it agreed to recognize Turkey's claimed maritime borders that conflict with Greece's. Greece supports the rebels because it hates Turkey. Don't know about the others, though.

On the ground, it was Turkey & Qatar vs UAE, Egypt & Russia. Euronigs and mutts didn't get involved at all.

Russian-Egyptian proxies thought they won the war, yet they were curb-stomped hard by Turkish led forces in Tarhuna & Watiyah

Why not just split the goddam country in two

Because the UN is a club of dictators (as in, the majority of nations and half of the permanent security council are dictatorships) and has been the single most destructive force for Africa by maintaining and enforcing colonial borders across Africa, Asia and the middle east.
Most african countries are too big, and if it werent for the UN would split into multiple smaller countries with far more cultural unity and stability.
