Lots of """cool looking"""" 22s get made for places where centerfire guns are legally restricted. It's the same reason why you see so many wild looking shotguns coming out of Turkey.
So why not just buy a regular 22 rifle or pistol. The whole look at my cool AR or MP5 thing is pretty gay. Because its not an AR or an MP5. I dont think it would even be fun to shoot 22 out of those, clicking keys on a typewriter is more fun.
Semi auto center fire is effectively banned in the UK, you won't get one just to do target shooting with. Rimfire doesn't fall under this ban though so people use .22lr rifles (and "pistols") of all types to compensate. Practical rifle shooting in the UK is all .22lr

Many of them won't even cycle with regular ammo. Some of the GSG .22s actually need HV ammo to cycle.
