Sharpening a razor blade

I have used a razor blade through and through and it's now dull.

The best practice would be to take the blade and insert it in your veins and pull it longitudinally. This would also benefit us, since it would solve such bait posts

based. i put my spent razors in this little gap between my north facing outlet and the wall. they slide right in and poof gone like a magic trick

Why do boomers and older like putting garbage in the walls? Like this slot for razors?
My boomer father in law put scraps of loose drywall above the shower cieling. The guy who built my house put scraps of loose drywall in the wall and I found them when I recently did a reno.
      Just seems a little strange.

At the house I grew up in, the laundry room was part of an addition my drunk grandpa did. Replaced the washer and dryer years ago and had to get behind the drywall for plumbing and there were a handful of Old Milwaukee cans in the wall. I think it was the first time I actually saw cans without a tab to pop them open.

I believe with the coffee mug, you’re supposed to sharpen on the rim where it’s rough ceramic and not glazed and smooth. I think that’s how the knoife ppl said to do it. But good luck, it’s probably going to end up more dull the first few times and you may slice yourself until you figure out the angle or buy more fricking blades.

resharpening double-edge blades won't get it back to original sharpness and it will be uneven, pull hairs, and snag. try and see.

Sharpening stone is ancient and cheap technology.
Even if you lived in a mediæval village with a dirt floor you’d have one.
The fact that you can’t buy razor blades indicates that, for sure, you’d need to have one. Ask your dad to teach you how to be a man.

only a homeless person would care about resharpening a 2 cent razor blade. he's probably used it to murder fellow hobos or their pets and now his wicked blade hungers for more blood. if he goes out and buys new blades the police might get onto him so hee hasto reuse what hes allready got.

The not so economic answer (if you already have at hand):
-Sharpening stones, honing steel, grinder, sandpaper or abrasive paste (on strap of leather or straight surface)
    The cost benefit solution:
-Realign the edge on a hard surface (preferably abrasive) like marble, ceramic (brics, mugs), hard metal (hammers, pliers), relatively straight stones or concrete

Hahah, I love this conversation, Well I think sharpening a blade is a good idea because it can actually save people from throwing them in their normal dustbin and then when animals find that pile of trash somewhere in a garbage dump, they eat the blade and their mouth bleeds and some of them die .

So yep, definitely we should work on something to make a blade reusable or atleast at 90% new quality because if you use a dull blade it only make the shaving experience bad and cuts some skin wrong as very micro level. Most of the men don't care about cuts so we need that machine.

      Anonymous

You know, most razor blades come in packs of 5 in these little plastic boxes. The plastic box has a compartment on the bottom to put the used blades in.

  22. 8 months ago
    TheRedBen10

Yes they have compartments, but most of the people don't store blades because why? They are just trash, so mostly people throw it in trash.

But yes sharpening them will stall this throwing in the garage and if we can sharpen a blade 3 time using the sharpening machine then we are doing 3x less damage to the nature.

      Anonymous

If people are too stupid and lazy to properly dispose of them in the included compartment, what makes you think they'll want to sharpen them?

  23. 8 months ago
    TheRedBen10

Why they will sharpen the blade? Ummm they won't but if we can make sharpening the blade a quick process as well as cost effective then I am sure people will do it. tbh shaving for me is like meditation, being in peace and loving the process of me clean shaving. (p.s I am not broke and I don't use same blade twice but i think there can be a solution for it for betterment of this world)

    ASP blade, ~5x used.
Loom strop treated with Pigment green #17, 0.3 micron.
The corner in the red circle shows the difference a couple passes made, as the corner wasnt hit.
also i only did one side, bottom side is the factory polish

what can we take away from this?
    yes it works
    an idiot could do it
Astras are fricking soft, first pass made it shine already
pg17 is way too fine fine for a DE blade with the heavy head. The shave is close, but bites like a feather brand.
Could be possibly improved with a blank leather strop

  25. 8 months ago
    Honest questions

There are two sides to the leather strop i got. Which side is the right side or is it like sandpaper and each side has a different grit?

the place you bought it from should disclose what they caked on and if they failed to do so i guarantee you its coarse low grade crayon trash.
I give you a hint, NO you cannot tell what it is by its color.

    >I have used a razor blade through and through and it's now dull.
    >How does one sharpen a razor blade?

Just like any other knife. You might need a small jig to screw it on to prevent flexing.
I have a 40 bucks knife sharpening kit of aliexpress, works great. ~60-80 grit is great for very chipped knifes of knifes with bad angles ~6k grit is the max you need, and ~6-8 different grits inbetween is plenty. Leather strap with polishing compound to finish it off is very effective, more so than 10k or 15k stones.
The lower grit stones wear quickly, consider getting a kit where those are diamond ones. Have ordered some, but didn't test it yet.
I sharpen all my knifes with such a kit, and i test them by shaving some hair on my arm. Never fails.
