Seth rogen made a rolling tray which is kinda cool but absurdly expensive. I would like to try making one myself but I know nothing about it. I just know you can make clay stuff and take it somewhere with a kiln for them to fire it. Question is, how do I paint it / coat it? Is this gonna be more difficult than it sounds?
You can literally dig out clay from outside, run it thru a cheesecloth to filter out the debris and fire it on an open wood fire.
This is more ooga booga rather than rocket surgery.
I didn't know if there's more to it. I don't go into things assuming I know everything. I know nothing about glazing pottery and need to make sure I can clean it with alcohol because weed build up. also I was thinking when I make indentations on the tray is that gonna make it denser in parts? I'd hate to go to the effort for it to crack in the kiln because I didn't know what I was doing
do you paint/glaze it prior to it going in the kiln?
Look up the % of shrinkage to expect. The size after firing is like 10% less or something.
If I make the tray and make the cup the size to fit it, when they both shrink will it still fit? Or would they shrink at a different rate cus it's hollow
This looks like it's made of plastic not ceramic, i don't think there are glazes that look like that. It looks like it's painted with something then formed and as the surface stretches you get that pattern
>do you paint/glaze it prior to it going in the kiln?
In pottery you fire it twice. You wait till the clay is leather hard then you do a bisque firing which makes it hard. Then you place glaze on the item and you fire it again at a higher temperature
by the way the pictured tray says it's made of cement not clay
>Question is, how do I paint it / coat it? Is this gonna be more difficult than it sounds?
You can either glaze it(requires firing to solidify) or just paint it. Judging by the look of what you've posted it was probably dipped into oil based paints floated on water.
>do you paint/glaze it prior to it going in the kiln?
When I did it, we always fired it, put the glaze on, then fired it again. If you where to paint it, it would be after firing.
>cement
lol, wtf
I meant concrete I thought they were the same
Looks heavy as frick and I would definitely drop and break it at some point.
Find a local pottery or old person “craft” class locally. Join the day - drinking wives maybe you can get some 45 year old pussy while you are at it.
Dude
WEED
DUDE
WEEEEEEEED
just buy it goyim
Chances are there's someone near you running casual ceramics lessons. Typically some old hippie woman who has a kiln in her garage. You get to make a pendant or spoon or something, and it's not much of a time or cost commitment.
Go do that. It'll give you the basis knowledge you need, introduce you to some ideas about constraints and the work involved, and you'll get a contact with a kiln for if/when you need that.
make one out of wood way easier
or learn ceramics. there are lots of vids on yt but u have to sift thru a lot of crap. better to buy a book and learn about it
but a wood one is way easier
you need specific paint to paint it before firing it
Just cut a circle out of wood and go to town with an orbital and a 30 grit then smooth it out. Won't be 800lbs and could handle a drop. Also dude weed etc.
Why would anyone need this? Do they not have a countertop?
Useless just like his unfunny "comedies"
brb making my rolling tray
>Seth rogen made
dude weed didn't make shit, he invested in a product.
>Seth rogen
I fricking hate this "man".
