I knew a former SWAT guy in the service. Super knowledgeable about all the cool guy shit, had cool guy gear, etc. He was completely fricking useless because it's a different skillset. He had no balls. Anyone can clear a fricking room with a modicum of training. SWAT has a huge attitude for being a group of guys with a pretty mediocre skillset.

people know most cops aren't worth their salt because they see them, they get pulled over by them, their friends and family have stories.
We see soldiers sleep in the dirt and get shot at for a year and come back and we give them a discount at Denny's. It doesn't matter that only a fraction of a percent of soldiers are the ones that are actually doing the shooting, American's perception of a soldier is stuck in WW2 and Vietnam. Most American's can't conceptualize a soldiers will spend his entire deployment in a supply closet or a chow hall. They literally think they are all on the front line. They know most cops just mill around waiting for a slip and fall so they can get disability.
You want respect for being a door kicker, and try to draw a parallel to the the operators overseas. Do you think the locals like those guys? We're the locals in this country, why would we like you? You're the one who help evict grandma, take kids on the behalf of CPS, write speeding tickets. This is what people think cops are.
