Recently I got a S&W Shield Plus in 9mm. I have a bunch of FMJs for practice, but I haven't settled on a carry ammo yet. I've been debating between
>Underwood/Lehigh Xtreme Defender in either 68gr or 90gr
>Sig V-Crown 124gr
>Speer Gold Dot
I really want to lean towards the Underwood due to the tests I've seen, but I keep second guessing myself on that choice.
Xtreme Defenders hands down. Get the 68gr if you don't want it to penetrate skulls like Hollow points but get the 90gr/+p+ if you really want to smash some skulls in. There is no reason to buy Hollow points anymore, It's 80s technology that has been superseded by several bullets lost through time and now currently by the Screw head.
You're a dumb fricking homosexual. The meme screwdrivers will never compare to a hollow point, they don't even expand. Basically an expensive FMJ.
they aren't meant to expand. screw tips are meant for penetration damage you actual Black.
So like any good hollow point?
hollow points stop and expand in the body screw tips are meant to go thru a mf. they have different purposes your comparison isn't accurate. is this real am I being punked this is basic.
you just got jebaited you are jebaited congrats and now dilate
They don't NEED to expand because they have a better mechanism for damaging tissue. They rip holes in tissue, NOT JUST GEL BUT ACTUAL MEAT TOO, that are 50% larger than the absolute best performing hollow points in an identical caliber, and twice as large as most hollow points.
Look at the data for yourself in the "2016-17 Joint Agency Ballistics Test for Defensive Handgun Ammunition (pdf)" at https://viperweapons.us/ballistics-testing-1
Federal HST 147gr is the exact round the Underwood XD outperformed by 50% (that's 1.5x as large of a wound area) in testing with no barrier. With a plywood barrier introduced, the Underwood XD outperformed the Federal HST 147gr by a full 100%, fully twice the wound area.
EVERY other hollow point tested in 9mm did even worse against Underwood XD.
>it's another episode of "moron at the peak of the dunning kruger mountain insists his special bullet really is the shit and he's not going to be like those dummies that shoots JELLO"
It outperformed any hollow points tested in both gel AND tissue. It didn't fail gel and make up for it in meat, it made larger channels through BOTH mediums. There is no measure of any kind where any hollow point bests them.
Frick, if I was going to go off of shooting gel alone then the best Underwood XD ammo outperformed the best hollow points by a factor of 275%. The meat tests of 50-100% better performance tempers expectations that gel sets even higher than the already high testing in actual animal tissue.
They are dumb and do not know the way. I handload 68gr XDs to 2400fps in my 9x25 Dillon glock 40
Now THAT'S a real pisser anon. You've shit all over the 2000 fps threshold.
i kill Black folk
Gold dot 124 gr. (+P for me)
Winchester Ranger-T 124 gr.
Federal HST 124 gr.
Don’t know about Critical Duty personally.
Plenty of online sites to find deals.
Federal HST or Hydra Shok Deep
Federal HST 147gr is still meta
Nah, 147gr HST stopped being meta in like 2019, grandpa. They altered the design for superior AG performance from duty length barrels resulting in spotty performance in sub 4" barrels. They added a second cannelure (reminiscent of the hornady interlock) They routinely fail to expand out of common EDC pieces like p365s, S&W shields, PPSs, etc. New meta is midweight HST(either pressure) or +P 124gr gold dots FYI.
denied
Get bonded +p by any of the major manufacturers.
Xtreme defender probably works fine but tbqh not much better than JHPs do in a short barrel 9mm. Also the profile and weight are pretty weird so you cant use clone loads for same POI let alone soft vetting reliability(should always run the real deal some too). Add to that the fact that they're too expensive for most people to practice with regularly or do initial reliability confirmation and the juice just probably isnt worth the squeeze. Vcrown is, has been, and likely always will be a mediocre performer in just about every metric. Out of what you listed my choice would certainly be 124gr +p gold dots. Doesnt get more tried and true than that, also the 124gr lawman and 124gr american eagle(AE9AP) are designed to have similar(ish) performance while being cheap practice alternatives. Avoid the 124gr standard pressure and 147gr gold dots, they will not expand reliably from a gun that size, youre best alternative choice is the 124gr HST(either standard or +P), and you cna use the same practice loads for it though the AE9AP is slightly preferred(lawman slightly preferred for GD).
>Speer Gold Dot
This is what police use, and they get a high score with it.
>Underwood/Lehigh Xtreme Defender
Memeround. Their claim to fame is high penetration. Neat, but pointless for self defense cause you want the rounds to stop at what they hit, not to go through. Might actually be your worst option for legal liability.
>Sig V-Crown 124gr
Untested. Unreliable. Your basic "hollow" point ammo with no data or evidence that backs it.
There's only THREE tested, used and proven hollow points in america that consistently work, get kills and are recorded by police records. ONLY THREE. Federal HST. Speer Gold Dot. Hornady Critical Duty. If your hollow point ammo isn't one of these three, then it's shit.
>Their claim to fame is high penetration
No it's not. That's Xtreme Penetrators. The defenders stop like hollow points because they bleed energy with the same hydraulic mechanism they use to inflict a wound cavity twice the size of hollow points.
Limiting yourself to what braindead pigs use is a moron take.
Yea people need to open their eyes, military and feds are always behind the civilian market. It was comp shooters that revolutionized shooting stances.
>always
They feed each other. Good ideas can come from anywhere, and catch on, evolve, and last if they really are good.
