russia's drone-begone radar got weirder

CКBП / SKVP. the one-stop cUAS radar, allegedly. now in mass production, allegedly. prior to army forum 2023, it was pictured as something resembling an actual radar. during army forum 2023, it was a chalkboard. as of day, at world defense show 2024, it's a scissor-lifted set of chalkboards. fake it til you're forklift certified? tech i don't understand? you be the judge.

does 'mass production' mean something different in russian than it does in english?

      Anonymous

You see, when you put design on paper those are just lines. They are abstract and abstract things don't have mass. "Mass production" means you create a unit with mass, yes? It doesn't necessarily mean there are many units in production, but just that there is at least one with mass in production.

they always say "serial production" and the year-on-year figures are given as multiples. the template is
      >$holding_of_rostec has increased production of $category_of_goods $n times.

less commonly, they'll try to lend credibility by citing specific production figures for one product. it'll usually be someone like shoigu doing it in front of the big board in the war room (naturally)

I don't know why you morons are so excited about what is clearly a model at a trade show.

It's not going to have minutae details.

Is there any reason why a scissor lift with 4 planar arrays is somehow "bad" or are we just shitting on Russian equipment for being Russian?

      Anonymous

point of the thread is that there's a major update on the system and we're no closer to it looking like any cUAS radar i've ever seen. old text stated up to 24 sensors/nodes, monitoring 20 low-flying objects with resolution out to at least 18km for group 2, 30km for small aircraft.

what do you shoot the drone with?

      Anonymous

this is just the detection bit. the idea of these systems is to be able to approximate an airport surveillance radar on the fly, establishing an air defense zone around some origin. the single truck is misleading here because the claim is that this will be set up as complex of multiple units. the truck isn't providing point defense for itself, it just happens to be the platform on which they're showcasing the panels. others might be on a roof, another truck, etc.

As long as you keep making shit threads I'll be here Black person

I'm getting this terrible feeling that multiple of these are going to stuck onto a prop transporter plane and the Russian's are going to claim it's a revolutionary way of creating a cheap and effective AWACS

I wonder what the scale for this is supposed to be?

If it's supposed to be a standard size truck, and that thing is at least five times taller than it going by the distance between each joint, they've basically created a full-sized watch tower that could be seen from miles away.

I'm not entirely sure if there's a market for technical with light fortifications stuck on the back, but it'd be interesting to see people try.
