Man I still remember the BMP-3M being shilled as if it were the next coming of Christ in terms of IFVs, and yet I don't think I've seen one to date and this is the first time I see them actually use the fricking slat package.
As a nogunz tourist, I have to ask;
Would the slat armor help against direct trajectory ATGMs, like the Stugna-P? Or is it only useful against RPGs and other such portable infantry AT weapons?
In fact, would it even help against those? Would it stop a Carl Gustav?
Slat armor is supposed to let the fuse pass through the gap so the slats can mangle the warhead out of shape, the copper liner needs to be a certain shape for the shaped charge effect to work properly, or alternatively to crush the fuse and break it off from the warhead to prevent it from detonating entirely. If the missile successfully detonates off the slat armor (it's safe to assume this applies to most modern big boy ATGMs) it just has to travel through an extra few inches of air which doesn't do shit to its penetration capabilities, and top attack missiles just avoid the issue entirely.
It stops HEAT, but wont do shit to shaped charges unless it gets hit on a weird angle. best protection is to not get hit by anything
ziggers getting so mad at their most modern IFVs being mocked that they post some 144p video of some 1960's aluminium box getting bonked. Insallah you will get drafted and drive a bmp-1 into a minefield
>it does not turn into an instant-fireball killing everyone within 20 yards when hit by something worse than a slight breeze
Can such technology be harvested by the Russians?
Do the bow guns ever get used?
Considering that every export and upgrade version they show of it has them removed, I doubt it.
Looks the Russian MIC is finally able to produce what it's shown off at arms expos for over a decade... Uparmored BMPs!
Gonna be cool when hastily trained mobik BMP crews just park their shit cuz they think slat armor makes them invulnerable to RPGs and ATGMs.
bmp3 slat package aint new, its just those morons finally realizing what not only parade/expo bmps need it
slap some ERA on that and you're golden
Nice, then the slats become a frag sleeve for the mobiks
Actually, they are ladders for the soldiers riding on top.
The real reason is for attaching extra supplies like food and water, sort of like molle grid on a plate carrier.
Notice how these grids are empty? Russia is facing a shortage of basic goods.

meanwhile in the Middle East
>evolving
>mutating
They've been doing this for a while.
A kit for the BMP-2 also exists.
>These aren't production still
>Originated 2-3 decades ago
looks like a budget t-84 that was forced onto a diet.
Why is slat armor so kino despite literally being only a cage?
Because despite all my rage, I'm still a kacap in a cage
Towed AT guns should make a comeback.

dude stugna is over 1000mm RHA of pen.
That missile is FAT. That could be solid DU against some missiles no amount of armor is enough

Third best protection. Not being seen and not being there are above.

HEAT means it's a shaped charge by definition.
2022: year of the cope cage
2023: dawn of the seethe slat

OK? That could be anything... What am I supposed to see there?
Russian first victory in two weeks
two more weeks and we'll get another 144p video of the russians saturation bombing a ukrainian kindergarden and claiming it's a SAM SITE

>killed a 300 year old tissue box with a 50 cal on it
whoa... demoralised...
>1 year into the SMO
>russians finally figured out slat armor
>after most of the old rpgs who are susceptible to this have been used up
