It's funny because before Russia tarded out in Ukraine and Georgia, the general sentiment towards them was that our old grudges were history and we were all moving forward hand in hand as the collective west. You could see it in all kinds of media, movies, television, games. Russians stopped being depicted as the scheming adversarial rat men, and you started seeing Russian characters being heroes and good guys. All that time though, Russians just assumed the west was seething and trying to destroy them.
