Bakhmut was alot more important when it was the possible springboard for a pincer hitting Kramatorsk-Sloviansk from there and the north. Only then the Russians lost the north and lsot their remianing offensive potential together with the 100k+ ziggers that died failing to take Bakhmut. Which makes the town rather less important.

And they STILL fricked everything up so badly that four months later they were on the defensive everywhere except for Severodonetsk and Lysychansk.

Bakhmut was alot more important when it was the possible springboard for a pincer hitting Kramatorsk-Sloviansk from there and the north.
