I wouldn’t say 2 weeks, but Ukraine had an “oh shit” moment realizing they can’t commit to a counteroffensive. Best case scenario is Ukraine digs in, but I am starting to question Ukraine strategy at the moment.

Da. Here in Ohi oblast apple pie production has ceased, a moratorium on children playing baseball is enforced and the black mariahs are cruising the streets at night picking up transgressors for re-education. Stalin was not such a bad fellow really.I was say to Mr Texan neighbour Shall we do civil war or maybe race war out of concern but he said no as he was busy fitting new garage door. It is such a shame and I am deeply concerned at Ukraine strategy. If only it was realised President Putin it is impossible to defeat. That is what we are all thinking here in Ohio Oblast. With no doubt there will be the civil war here in the USA due to the many shortages in food and such things. I was in the wallmart just yesterday and there was a shortage of all fruit but also bread. In this oblast we lack a strong leader who can prevent such disaster like President Putin. If only I were in Russia and I am sure many Ukrainian children dream of this and fame on darknet. All Ukrainian women are I think prostitute, this is the truth of such lies about Russian soldiers doing the rape and other such things. I love you all. If you see poor russian soldier think of kitten and write as I do to senator saying that Russian soldier is like little kitten and that it is very wrong to drop bomb on him. Everyone here in Ohio does this. Soon the petro dollar will collapse so I shall grow turnip. I am very concerned about Ukraines strategy. Our American Republican party must save Russia and send military aid to president putin who is fighting Nazi like stalin I think.

On a basic level the theory is sound, instead of sitting there and getting pounded you generate momentum from a different location and try to seize initiative and force your opponent on the back foot. However the problem is that you need a credible threat and there's frick all in the east part of the country that AFU can't just simply ignore and continue the southern offensive.

      Anonymous

Not saying whether it is sound or not, but from the POV of Putin, the ultimate desicion maker:
      >you have been told that several dams are destroyed and Ukraine cannot advance in Kherson
      >you have been told that several dams are destroyed and hundreds of western tankshave been destroyed in Zaporozhie, and that Ukraine cannot advance
      >you have been told that the Russian army has made massive progress in Donbass and also Wagner was never there, Wagner is worthless
Based on this information, does it not seem reasonable to do the following:
      >withdraw almost all forces from Kherson (we have been seeing this for the past week, including a couple of convoys destroyed en route due east)
      >pull your reserves in Zaporozhie into a massed backhand blow to finish off what surely must be a battered opponent
      >focus all your remaining reserves in the East in a new offensive, surely this one must go better than the winter one (which was a massive success, you've been told)

Another point of data we must consider is that maybe Putin was not told that it has been raining for a week.

Envision for a moment you're the manager of a walmart, it's one day before black friday. Corporate put out all the ads but nobody fulfilled the orders for most of the products. Your calls to the fulfillment centers and corporate are met with runarounds and noncommittal "the problem is elsewhere" replies, or worse "there is no problem". The day arrives and thousands of black friday hooligans decend upon you. Then 10 minutes after opening and trying to manage the carnage because you still need that paycheck you hear from someone who just emerged from gladiatorial combat for one of the few TV's that the walmart corporation has dissolved. You check and sure enough every walmart store in the country has devolved to self rule. All the shoppers now with no corporate entity to thrust their ire upon now look at you.

He was but that's a story. More or less the fall happened because his paper pushing style job he was thought to be trustworthy especially considering his real mother was his father's mistress. That made him somewhat controllable in the old guards minds.
American aid started coming in he was supposed to be helping guiding it, eventually it was found out he had stolen massive chunks as did his friends he was cut off. his friends and him proceeded to buy russia up and start building their empire. After about 3 years of oligarch wars Putin came out on top with the his friends and since then he's been in charge. They probably stole around 150 billion in aid over 5 years. they being Putin and 8 other KGB or oligarchs. only 1 besides Putin is alive. That's how russia works. It wasn't some master chess game, he just got lucky a couple of times and everyone else died or didn't want to be in the spotlight.

Patrushev takes an interest in something and says I want X or that person to have X or do Y, yes he is just one man but he is head of all of the Russian intelligence services and absolute poisoner in chief. If someone angers him, they die, if someone challenges him, they die. Putin is his frontman but he completely controls him, Putin was never very smart he was always a servant not a master. Escalate to deescalate and invading Ukraine in 2014 and 2022 is all Patrushev as are the Moscow apartment bombings the poisonings, the murders of journalists and Alexander Litvinenko and Boris Nemtsov. From a certain perspective he is insane but at present untouchable. The war in Ukraine would end immediately if he died. If Putin dies nothing will change. Its important to note he does not care *at all* about Russia. He only cares about the USSR and its restoration, it is the USSR he was and is loyal to the idea of *not* Russia.

Actually according to west German intelligence files he was handler for the Baader Meinhof terrorist group and met with them frequently in east Germany.. He is documented as requesting car stereos from them for himself but he may have been legitimately looking for expatriates so the soviets could copy them or have them to place bugs in for espionage. He is a small avaricious kleptomaniac man who likes to drink and is of limited intelligence who lies to drink and while not sexually active any more when he had the change to liked to engage in sadistic bisexual hebephilia. Being sent to Stasi was a sign of trust in the skills, loyalty and psychopathic sadism of the operative.
The "Putin was incompetent" individuals are the same ones who rush to deny the massive propaganda expenditures and sprawling espionage networks the FSB operates.
He was never the judo-master super-spy he likes to portray himself with, but he is someone who oversaw kidnappings, torture sessions and had extensive experience working with organized crime and the Stasi-funded extremist movements in the west.
And these are the things he has always doubled down on when in doubt - propaganda, subversion and suppression.

You are quite correct except in one area, Putin was never any kind of leader. he was always a sidekick or servant. Putin probably delighted just as much in the suffering of the idiots in baader meinhof as he did their victims. He likes to make young teenagers both boys and girls very and then have sex with them, he's a very nasty man who like to demonstrate power over others by stealing something from them when he meets them. BUT he reports to Patrushev and always has even as far back as Leningrad. Putin enjoys cruelty. Patrushev has been poisoning people every week for decades.

For a start "Nazi collaborator" is a stretch, while his group did collaborate with the Nazi's with the goal of forming a state away from Russian empire at the time, we do no see Finns or Norwegians subjected to such scrutiny, the political goals of those groups are just considered to be self interested and not nazi ideologue politically motivated, but not Bandera he must be a Nazi.

Bandera was in occupied Poland when on June 30, 1941, his comrades proclaimed an independent Ukrainian state in Nazi-occupied Lviv — and the Germans banned him from traveling to Ukraine. Adolf Hitler rejected the idea of Ukrainian independence, and Bandera was arrested and imprisoned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp until 1944.
The OUN-B continued to fight for independence in Ukraine with the help of its military arm, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
        >The Nazis and the Soviets persecuted and killed OUN-B fighters. After the war, Bandera lived in Munich until he was killed in 1959 by a KGB agent using cyanide.

Basically both the Nazis and the Russians used and abused the Ukrainian nationalists. The idol of Bandera is because he fought for Ukrainian independence by pitting two nations that wanted to cleanse Ukraine from existence against one another. He is one of the few pro Ukraine idols of which groups both fought with and against the nazi's for further its own goals, and yet people do not see this.

From than on any nationalist group that wanted Ukrainian freedom was lumped in with western nazi's that wanted death to minorities, because it was politically convenient for Russia to pawn off all collaboration guilt onto Ukraine and for Germany to hide their genocidal past (ie both sides wanted Ukraine cleansed to form a new land of new Germany or New Russia)

Western media is also basically desperate for headlines they basically parroted RT and fed into the lies and narrative.
        Hell even one says
        >And no RT didn't write this headline
For frick sake anon learn some history.

This entire current "civil war" is literally about old Russian anti Nazi false propaganda facing off against a pro Ukrainian movement to stop blaming Ukraine alone for collaboration (More Russians and communists were collaborators than Ukrainian nationalists).
Since so many Ukrainian nationalists fought on the USSR side it isn't rely fair to call them nazi's, but the Russians used them as a tool to propagandise against since Ukrainian nationalism was a threat to the USSR, which is why the Holodomor then happened to kill off Ukrainians.

So yeah, Ukraine is basically fighting against decades of USSR lies and the division caused by those lies only really being spread in Russian, and the counters to the lies being spread in Ukrainian meant there was a division in language between these ideas.
Putin then exploited the differences between these historic ideological differences to claim Ukraine had been taken over by western installed nazi's, and due to a difference in the views of history thanks to USSR propaganda they were easy to pit against one another

Yes let us talk about Nazis as we often do here in all oblasts. Such right to be concerned and I am very concerned that Ukraine! Some people are saying ';hallo hang on aktually it is President Putin who is doing the annexation and genociding and child kidnapping and all that shit with mass graves" But do not look there look here and say whatabout vietnam and smile for you have done the won. With the bulk of the AFU forces concentrated in the south and unable to advance does Russia have a chance to finally expel the Ukrainians from the east? We're about to find out, important to note the Russians mobilized more than 500k and we haven't saw most of those forces.

You do remember Russia had "Expelled Ukraine in the east" back in the beginning of the war, Ukraine pushed them back.

      Anonymous

ukraine has committed only a small fraction of their forces south, they're still looking for a gap in the russian defenses before going in with the reserves.

      >important to note the Russians mobilized more than 500k and we haven't saw most of those forces.
they also sustained more than 500k losses (KIA+WIA) according to most data, so these (very poorly trained and equipped) troops are just enough to replenish the losses they sustained thus far.

The Russians attacked along the Svatove - Kreminna line all winter and achieved frickall. I don't see why they'd achieve more this time. As far as I'm aware, the Ukrainians haven't pulled any forces off the line on this part of the front.

I’m guessing Russians are attempting to bait the Ukrainians in shifting their forces across another front in the same way the Ukies did to them last year with Kherson and Kharkiv.

Taking Kherson in the opening days was unironically the greatest success Russia had. Places like Mariupol and Sieverodonetsk were too slow and grindy to compare.

They have been at it for a week, what's this about it being a surprise now? Then again Ukkie politicians are still politicians so maybe they can get surprised by something that's been going on for a while and was telegraphed in advance.
Also, weird that they'd do this while there's still Freedom of Russia units in Belgorod

My theory is that they want to reach the Donetsk and Luhansk borders and then sue for peace in a position where they can keep Crimea and both of the breakaway provinces.

So it's going to be a forever war because Ukraine is never going to accept those terms

Given the recent MISSION ACCOMPLISHED speeches, it's this. A last ditch effort to consolidate claims, but the fact is it takes both sides to agree to peace. Ukraine AND it's backers aren't gonna agree to it. Ukraine also has 2 UN SC members to veto bullshit as well.

Not only is Russia not in any shape to demand peace, Ukraine would be massively moronic to take this deal and expect Russia won’t be doing something again in 7~ years.

This is moronic and only makes sense if it was some strategically important region that has to be held. Ukraine can literally just keep retreating to large cities and create bakhmut 2.0. I love it when political goals overtake the militarily sound ones in dictatorship

Hang on a second. This isn't a new offensive, this is the same counter-attacks they've been doing in this area since the struggle of Kreminna had begone shortly after the Kharkiv counteroffensive last year.

No one paid any attention to them because Bakhmut was stealing the show until very recently.
