Rock Soup

This is a project to build rural villages out of spare resources and volunteer labor. They function as open art colonies, music venues, public workshops, gathering places, community gardens, places of free education, and whatever other purpose each village decides. Like the parable of rock soup, each place, and this project, is started from nothing, and comes together as collaborators offer what they can give freely.

Carpenters, musicians, farmhands, architects, sculptors, etc…anyone with expertise, as well as resources: spare wood, tools, electrical equipment, art supplies…all are welcome ingredients in every stew. The biggest hurdle is for someone to contribute a plot of land, for if all of this comes pro bono, then a village for all, a canvas of experience, a modern day forum, can come together without the handling of money corrupting the core concept…

I am currently somewhere similar and it has all that life needs, and it is very free. All that I can think about while I’m here is that there must be more places like this. All of the people love it here because it is not about money, but it is neither about ideology. It is just a place that people are allowed to be human beings.

Every village created with this project can be completely unique, yet each shares the trait in that it is like an open home, and with that comes the law of respect and common sense. The rest can be solved on a case by case basis (see: common sense). A blend of artists and people that actually know how to make things…this creates a good ambiance with as well the productivity. Those who don’t know what they are can help around and find out.

In essence, it is a DIY life, but with the common goal of a place for the people emerging out of all of the pieces that are contributed…the soup emerging from the ingredients brought by all the neighbors.

As you have seen. There's many of these all over. You just need to go find one if you want to live like that.

Sounds like a weird german eco-topia. With people who still believe in the holocaust, and so are trying to find an outlet to their guilt and shame, and subsequent virtue signalling, which is just remapped 'original sin'. Who knows what it was before then?

    > no money

ah, you're referring to poverty. Money is not the issue. Fiat is. You remove means of exchange, whether in barter or cash, and you remove economic incentive. Nowhere works better, but e.g. the States and other globohomosexual countries/regions, have only had fiat since, well, since the 'lizard people' pressured each one, plying each politician and bureaucrat, funny handshake club member, with fiat, sex, and other degeneracy, to hand over their banking to rothschild and his cohort of 'lizard people'.

You had a pretty good run there, for about 10 years, but have done shit on either side of it. Far too many complicit c*cksuckers, that can't think for themselves.

I get where you’re coming from, but in this case, you’re living in the past. It doesn’t matter what people think anymore, it just matters that there is a pathway towards free thought.

And that doesn’t mean teaching people to think a certain way, to have the same beliefs as you—that isn’t freedom. A place that exists outside of the matrix, and runs at its own pace…I think this is a fighting chance for humanity. No, I know it. As long as there is the natural life, humanity is safe.

I am not exactly saying “no money” but I think this can all be done technically without it, and that doesn’t mean poverty. People individually have it and can acquire whatever the place needs that can only be purchased themselves. If the place can run and come to existence without a commercial mindset, it will have much more freedom in the long run.

I have thought long and hard about creating currencies for this project, and my answer in my heart is that it would distract the ethos from what it truly represents.

        > you're living in the past, old man.

Cope on. I am alive right now. You created a naval-gazing thread on diy to proselytize, by the look of it.

The people that are having growing populations of children, that are euroid, are mennonites and amish. To some extent, mormons. And, anyone else I missed, according to you, 'living in the past'. Except, it is they who define the future, because their lineage has one. Seems like they are very much more alive, than the others who have a similar genetic basis, that are busy dying-out.

Anyone else, I care less about: They will navigate their own way.

Wow what a great idea, you know if there are a lot of these communities they should band together in order to even more effectively use their resources, then the various compounds could specialize and achieve greater productivity than they could separately. There may be some disputes between the compounds though, so it'd make sense to form some kind of organization with representatives from each compound to ensure their constituents are fairly represented and the collective is acting in the best interests of the members... Revolutionary, no one has thought of this before.

I have thought along similar lines for a long time, but I currently believe that simplicity is best. For the same reason that I don’t think a currency is necessary, I don’t think a political consortium is necessary. I think all that’s needed is a simple digital platform that organizes local projects and allows each one to find its own dynamic. If there was a currency and a politic, the villages could be orchestrated to be created very efficiently, with subsidiary funding, voting, all of that…but something is lost.

With the simple “rock soup” format, things can come together in a very neighborly way, or as friends would. There is no need for a grandeur of organization if people have common sense and respect.

I appreciate your comment if it is genuine.

Correction, the website doesn’t organize the projects necessarily. It shows what’s going on around, what’s available, and who’s available. The rest is for people to solve through communication, mostly in person. This creates trust, liberty, and thoughtfulness, above efficiency which might produce a soulless result.

The creativity and case-by-case problem solving should be the joy of the project…the freedom: the passion.

Maybe there is some middle ground to discuss here. I do think the properties should have connection, without sacrificing autonomy, but adding, for example, a network of musicians artists laborers specialists etc., sharing crops across climates, housing craftsmen and developing a new folk art and architecture that spreads throughout the communities. Spitballing.

Fair representation is always something that can be argued…humanity cannot solve it, it seems. We are always changing, evolving, and so our ideas. It’s better we have the freedom to evolve, and any diplomacy we add to that should be supplementary, not necessary.

Your first mistake is that you will waste time and effort "building it". There are a great many dead and dying small towns that already have lots of infrastructure: buildings, roads, lights, etc that are just abandoned. So just gather up all the people together that want to be part of it and move them all in.

Thanks. I had this idea a couple of months ago, as an “American Revival” movement that occupied dying towns and breathed new life into them. I’m not saying that isn’t still a good idea, but there is something maybe better about a blank canvas. And besides, I think the constructing is a beautiful part of the process, one that would be better if it didn’t end…these homes or spaced always evolving, changing. They are joyful like pillow forts.

The structures can be simple, constructed from scraps, old busses, popup tents…that kind of thing to start. As time progresses, the property gets a bit more beautiful each day…and that beauty begets further beauty, teaching the place how to become.

        >there is something maybe better about a blank canvas.
I have to say I respectfully disagree with that. My main criticism surrounding this "simple structure" is that in my eyes, that's how shanty towns start. I'd be very concerned that the entire thing might turn into a favela or something

The main principle of this project (I say “this project”, but as this thread reveals, it is still somewhat amorphous) is beauty. I want to create an international society grounded in places that stand for beauty. As a result, the places have music, art, education…but also as a result, they are free, natural, and built out of the volunteered efforts of good-natured people. I have yet to find a way of doing it with a more organized or businesslike mindset that isn’t stained with greed.

Ok, and I say beauty, but it something else that I can’t describe in this moment…because it would be better something looser and natural built out of scrap materials than something grand and extravagant.

But the atmosphere of these places should be…beautiful.

Maybe there does need to be some sort of “organization” that enforces this sense of beauty, but deep down, I feel it is possible without any of that. Just people nourishing the ideal out of their own passion for it. Love.

I gotta say, that's not really a great "hook" to bring people in and keep them going, not a good foundation. If you were trying to create the best-decorated house on the street during Xmas, maybe you could think like that. But bottom-line, people aren't willing to put themselves out there and sacrifice time and energy just for a bit of beauty. Think like them and ask "What's in it for me?"

I refuse to think like them. I will only think the way I sense is best. Even if it means I die and this way of thinking only makes sense after.

              Beauty is what matters.
“What’s in it for me?” is always the enemy.

I would rather stick to this and wait for the right people. The only thing that matters to me is the happiness of the human race. I will absoluty die for that.

                >I refuse to think like them. I will only think the way I sense is best. Even if it means I die and this way of thinking only makes sense after.

You are enslaved to the illogical idea that your idealism can succeed if only you maintain utmost rigidity of thought, and refuse to compromise. You won't succeed in any of this because you refuse to accept human nature at its most fundamental, as evidenced by this-

                >“What’s in it for me?” is always the enemy.

You could not be any more wrong, all humans have a bottom line breaking point where they will abandon all attempts to live within a social order and will operate purely on principles of self preservation. This is one truth of human behavior you can count on, and even the most orderly societies filled with seemingly altruistic individuals are FAR closer to this point than anyone will admit. Treating people's personal assessments of their own needs and wants as not just secondary but as "the enemy" as some kind of answer is just collectivist fairytale drivel that guarantees people dropping any pretense of shared goals sooner rather than later.

                >I would rather stick to this and wait for the right people.

There ARE no "right people" because even when people voluntarily join the kind of community you describe, they do so because they liked the answer to the question "What's in it for me?"

Even seemingly selfless altruism is chosen because that person thinks there's some kind of payoff that will enrich them...perhaps spiritually, but it's still their personal choice based on their personal reasons.

The best way to ensure that people are happy is to not treat them like their desires and personal values and goals AS INDEPENDENT INDIVIDUALS are "the enemy"; accept human nature for what it is and stop trying to force individuals into artificial behavioral structures created by do-gooders who can't even articulate why.

This doesn't mean allow everyone to go hog wild, it means recognize that anarchy IS the fundamental order of how people operate and they make concessions to more order and cooperation and oversight precisely because there's something in it for them.

When there isn't or they are told to give it up, they check out and DGAF.

PS- to anyone without feel-good blinders on the parable of the stone soup describes a shameless huckster who tricks other people into making food while he contributes no food, but gets fed and takes a share of the credit for providing food even though his contribution had zero nutritional value.

It's no surprise that brain dead elementary school teachers and dumb hippies think that a story about bullshiiting your way to living off other people's resources while contributing nothing but bullshit is a valuable life lesson and foundation for happiness

It’s not that you’re wrong. It’s that because you see a beautiful, sweet, heartwarming children’s tale with such violent eyes explains where your perspective on the project comes from. I appreciate what you have to say, I really do…but there is “the right people” and they are the ones who have a heart, patience, passion for life, love for children…understanding about life. They do exist, and I will find them, and this project will come together eventually, and I will sustain my efforts, and contribute all that I can, and the project will be fun, beautiful, interesting, good.

I do that I do with all of my being, and I know that it’s right. I come here to see if anyone wants to help create something. In a way, the criticism does help…but I’m still waiting for someone to come along and say something truly insightful.

Believing that creating a happy home for all is such a horrible thing when I could be scamming people or working for Apple or fricking children…it might make sense from a perspective that only seeks to deconstruct, but any normal person who would sit and talk about this would think it’s a positive thing.

I hope someone sees something inspiring in this thread and has a better way of articulating it. I am not trying to claim ownership of any kind of vision…ok maybe at the onset of this, but what I truly wish to do is point at some kind of tangible, material possibility for the world to make something really, really nice for people to grow and re-experience life from a deeper perspective…and I think it can also be made with what is left over, what people can give freely…maybe not, but surely it is at least POSSIBLE. That possibility is intriguing to me, it would make a great story.

                >such violent eyes

You literally can't be exposed to any but your own perspective without immediately dismissing it using the most over-the-top, disingenuous rhetoric in an attempt to bolster your laughably weak position.

Being a pie in the sky idealist doesn't take any skill, and to the extent that doing so while being 100% devoted to your notion that you are right no matter what takes some dedication, it's dedication to lying to yourself so even that isnt really a net accomplishment.

The really crazy thing is that by repeatedly speaking in terms of how you will die trying to realize your utopian fantasy, you unwittingly admit that you know that it's not going to happen.

Many such cases, and its just more proof that what was said was spot on: you think this effort will pay you off personally and ALL that matters to you is that you get your way. Even when people offer you advice in good faith for how to make your efforts more productive, you selfishly attack their characters and insist that YOUR desires are what matter.

The "I'll die before giving up!" BS is just an attempt to sell the idea that you are some kind of martyr who deserves that level of respect even before flowing through.

It doesn’t matter if I have the best rhetorical skills for not. I am pursuing the truth…something deeper than that even. It doesn’t matter what kind of argument you make to discredit me. My sentiment that I am devoted to my dreams is a positive character trait in truth. It is only a vulnerability in your cave. I don’t have to live in your cave. The truth is liberating, it feels well, it is easy. I may be making some kind of mortal oath, but deep down I know that life is unfolding in a beautiful way, and if I feel what I do, doing all that I can to make something good with my life, to honor it, then I know that is a good thing.

I don’t have to click that link to know that none of those communities are anywhere close to what I have in mind, and if I showed up there, for sure I would think it strange. That’s because I think to truly make a space which is “governed by the angels”, there is an amount of thought needed to underpin the philosophy that perhaps no group has sufficiently fulfilled yet. I am here to propose a base for a soup that, with some other chefs, has a chance of being that which transcends the republic…because I learned that in order to pursue this vision, which was, in a way inseminated by Plato, I had to stray from the liberal arts path and dive fully into experience. I have contended with love, life, child-rearing, friendship, pain, beauty, catharsis…these kinds of things, to learn about what it will take to create a life for all that has life…ok for “all” but whoever wants it. I am currently in the place in the world which is most like this idea, but it is only one place which does not have room to grow, and it is lacking robustness in some elements such as liberal arts and child rearing. What I’m working on is almost undisputably a good life, it’s just a question of how much time it takes to come together, or how widespread it is in this generation.
I come to PrepHole with this because it is the only forum which still has a natural element to it, and this is a project which seeks to be in accordance with nature. I have nothing to fear about being torn apart. I have been torn apart all my life. The essence of this project will persist through all changing of forms, destructions and reconstructions. I only truly seek others that recognize its nature.

It’s a Jefferson quote. I am implying that we are evolving, just as the mind evolved from monarchical life of the Middle Ages to the American democracy, we now have to evolve from democracy. In the Middle Ages, one could only be as wise as their master, and in America, one can only be as wise as the demos. It is an over simplification, but I am expanding on a thought by Tocqueville to imply that now we evolve again to what would seem from our perspective to be the final frontier of thought. This way of thinking I believe is synonymous with Jefferson’s sentiment…to be ruled by the angels is to not require constitutions, and this way of being is the same…the law of respect and common sense is all that is needed for liberated man.

Frick off. Nobody needs more populations plaguing the world. You're the worst kind of hippy out there. Why the frick would you care about populations that aren't fit for survival and located in an environment inhospitable to them?

You know what they do in third world countries? Stupid villagers go build a hut out of steel sheet and cardboard, they invite a cousin to live in it and then go build a new one in another space. When the rainy season comes they whine to NGOs that their house built in a ravine was washed away so someone builds a free brick house for them, they keep doing this over and over until huge slums are created and get populated by junkies, drug and human traffickers.

You are part of the problem. You are creating more of the problem. Those free lands could be used to build forests, to restore endangered species and build nature corridors, but no, creating more poverty is all you think about. Frick off.

I feel like I am the only human being that understands how alarming it is that the final frontier of free thought is not a place that is truly well-educated, lacking these two fundamental things…it should be the primary focus. Beauty and goodness, something like that.

What goes on here is actually called sophistry. It is just powerful rhetoric. It is not meditation, it is not beautiful, it is not cathartic—it is not life.

Inb4 “why are you here then?”

Ok, I used the term “final frontier of thought” twice with different meanings…but so what? I feel like what matters most is if I can communicate what I mean, not rigorous eloquence and advanced rhetoric. I mean something deep because I am deep. I assume you are as well. I speak to that part of you, not the part that can exterminate the erroneous things that grow away from the center, but the part that can recognize from one’s center to another’s center their very human beinghood…that which is made of the same primordial essence that the universe is, the spark of light, the monad or daiganwei…whatever you refer to it as, we are certainly in cohoots, all of us, if you think about it. The edgy personality here is only a mechanism of the times, it is not the final truth of being. The final truth of our being is love.

I poop on this incel site. You should all stop reading David Foster Wallace and live a little. It is sad that this conversation is a dead end. I am staring at the sea and breathing fresh air and surrounded by interesting people and enjoying beautiful music and I’m dreaming of the future. I come here as a stranger and offer a gift, but there is no one here to accept it. It was a gift for all of you to grow out of this darkness and apply your intelligence for good. To learn how to feel, how to create. This site does not teach free thinking. It teaches only deconstructionist thought. There is no philosophy. There is no beautyXZ

    There is no life here.

I wish I had the means to create a platform for beauty. It would have a fantastic ambiance and evolve each day, becoming wiser and more comfortable.

I don’t have the means, I have to focus on the beauty that’s around me. It’s too bad. People who are isolated will suffer so much because they don’t have the right sort of outlet. They don’t have a place they can grow. A place where they can love.

Please, if you’re reading this, think of that place. Dream of that place. It’s possible that destiny is for others to continue where I left off.

I have my music, that’s all I need to spread this message.

Ok, I am lying. I will create that platform, but it’s better if there are many ways to think about beauty, I think. A biodiversity of thought makes a beautiful garden. You will remember this post someday. You will see that what I am talking about is life-giving. It will make people happy.

Well... if you look at the story, you'll noticed the main character began with a pot, stone and a bunch of low iq subhumans who can be tricked into thinking a stone added flavour.

What you're looking for is in Africa. There are tons of organizations building communities, using middle class uni students for free labour "too help poor little africa develop :'( " building rammed earth homes for the families and a polebarn as a school teaching African children the ability to read, write and do basic math while the parents have more time to work the fields. What you don't know, is the sole purpose for these communities is to provide cheap manual labour for the owners of the surrounding farms.

The stone soup story should have ended with the soup just being a lure to group up all the villagers into one pile, making it easier for a single drone strike to take them all out at once so the invading country to extract the oil underneath the village without any retaliation from the local community.

    ?Yeah
This is what community involvement boils down to in year of our Lord 2024.
Drugs and shitty music with the lumpenproleteriat, or building shitty homes for morons in 3rd world countries with churches.
