Remember even a few months ago the grippen-e shills were still shilling about this being the greatest aircraft of all time.

It took like 8 countries making orders before they were successfully BTFO

That's because they, like you, are only in it to shitpost. Five foreign sales is really good for a Swedish fighter, and I'm not sure what the frick people expect from a country that lacks the political weight of the US/UK/France/USSR, nor has the "sell to whoever pays" attitude of some of those. Oh wait, they don't expect at all, they're just shouting at each other how it's the best thing ever/absolute dogshit because shouting is all they care about.

        >lacks the political weight of the US/UK/France/USSR
Sweden is based but your delusion if you think f-35 winning was a function purely of politics. The f-35 is better than the grippen-e in literary every metric, to say nothing of maintenance and part availability.

Do you realize that is about extending leases of already 2/3 thru their life cycle aircraft by few years and more ex-Swedish AF aircraft if they want to expand their air force. Saab still gets their shekels from spare parts sales, training support and such. Reality, before those original planes were even leased to Czechs, those were already ordered by Swedish AF and were as new unused aircraft surplus to Swedish AF.

      https://www.aviacionline.com/2022/01/f-35-cheaper-than-the-gripen/

      USA!!!

I didn't think Thailand could do any major defense procurement more moronic than their tiny carrier, but basing fighter procurement on fly away cost of aircraft might make that tiny carrier that has no airwing and is actually used as royal yacht seem sensible. Then we can guess that third world countries do third world things and will remain third world.

Why the frick doesn't Sweden send the Gripen to Ukraine?

Because Americans already snatched the Ukrainian pilots and train them on F-15s and F-16s

ah yes i see everyone lining up to buy krabs for instance. Maybe this sentiment works for some systems like robot 57 (nlaw) but not for more expensive ones.
and its not like the jets are owned by saab anyway the Swedish airforce needs all the jets for itself .

Hägglunds landed a pretty significant sale on the CV90 mkIV though so it’s not all gloom and doom in the north.

Sadly the age of the indigenous fighter jet is at an end though. It’s simply too expensive to develop your own jets which is why everyone tries to rope in as many partners in the development stage rather than push for sales once the jet is done.

If the saab is significantly cheaper than a f35 then why not? I suppose. the saab is better than anything the russians have

Last I checked Brazil is still buying more of them and they likely be what Mexico selects to replace their F5 fleet. I don't see them going for the F16 or F35.

Archer was recently tested with the US Army which was suitably impressed. An Army contract would be HUGE for the Swedish MIC…not from a dollars perspective but from the huge advertising win. And if the US takes Archer to war it’s going to show up all over media and the internet. Other countries will automatically put it, and by extension Swedish arms in general, into the short list.

      >152 CV90 MkIV tracked infantry fighting vehicles
Anon you need to understand how little money that is.
The sale of 152 AFVs is a big *one time* even that will bring in a few hundred million dollars.
The average oil-producing shithole makes that in just one day.
The days of minor nations having their own profitable arms industries is over.

Weird statement, but I guess this is a troll thread. There are no unprofitable Swedish defence companies, the only way I can imagine that you think so is because you are ignorant about the wide variety of weapons these companies are actually selling.
