Re-using picture from handgun general. New production SW jframe and a 1970s model 66. Two of my favorite guns. J frame is very comfy carry piece.

      Anonymous

Do you actually like those pachmyr grips on the 66 or is that just what they came with?

        Anonymous

Came with it but I like them. Pretty comfy. Handles .357 really well. Used to have a new production King Cobra and it wasnt as suited to magnum rounds

New Pachmyr grips are nothing like the old ones. New ones are pieces of garbage coasting off the name while the old ones were actually good.

Yeah I tried another grip and preferred the stock one

        “Videos of combat”

Of course you’re not going to bring a revolver to a fricking Warzone. Or a pistol. If you’re expecting to need to shoot someone you don’t bring a pistol, you bring a long arm like a rifle or carbine. And with those it still ends the same, hits on target > misses. People die when they are shot. People do not die if they are not shot.

SWAT don’t breach with pistols. They breach with submachine guns and carbines.

Miami Dade. Shooter with mini-14 wastes like 6 agents armed with revolvers and auto loaders.

Bring a rifle to a gunfight.

Actually more and more teams are doing entries with more pistols than long guns. Pistols work fine for a SWAT deployment most of the time. semi-auto pistol caliber carbines are getting popular as well.

This is same model of K6 I got, love it. Just wish Kimber sold the wood grips from the DCR version separately, I haven't seen any other short grips that appeal to me and the longer ones are ugly and a no go for carry

          Anonymous

Altamont probably makes them. Contact Kimber and see if they'll sell you a pair if they won't ask them if they are made by Altamont and then contact them.

Looks like it says it right on the cover. It's just psalms and proverbs so not the whole bible.

It's the entire New Testament + Psalms and Proverbs. It's about the size of my hand and is 633 pages long. Text is fairly small but so long as your eyesight is fine it's easily legible. I have a regular KJV bible for use at home, the pocket bible was given to me by a friend back in high school.

they pass them out at my Uni when the quad god guy shows up and proselytizes at the quad. Sometimes its the entire NT, sometimes its just the gospels and a few other bits. But the text is always tiny and the paper quality is always ass.

        >how the frick does a pocket bible work anyway?
like the cover says, its just the NT and psalms and proverbs. a real shame, no job, no song of songs, no ecclesiastes. these books are disseminated by Gideons, an evangelical Christian (read: Protestant) group. Protestants tend to have a less-nuanced, more proof-text oriented method of interpretation. i would say it's stupidly and needlessly argumentative, relying on appeals to authority similar to pharisees or talmudics. one of the pillars of protestantism is sola scriptura, which is basically rejecting out of hand the tradition from which they sprang: Catholicism. this means they threw out 2000 years of Catholic philosophers and saints, in favor of their own method (which is ill-defined and often produces bad results). you absolutely *cannot* adequately understand the person of Jesus Christ and his role as messiah without the Old Testament. that said I have a few of those pocket NTs myself, but do prefer the full NIV for pleasure reading as you saw.

      You've never read it.

The only thing that matters in a gun fight is your ability to put rounds on target. You only need 12 rounds if you couldn’t hit the target with the first 11. Now hitting a target is a lot harder when they’re shooting back but it’s all that matters, a round that misses has done nothing. Some people shoot better with a revolver, some with an auto, some can’t hit shit no matter what gun you give them.

But if you know you’re going to get into a gunfight, don’t bring a pistol, bring a rifle, a shotgun, anything with a stock.

Wrong. The winner always has more ammo.

        Anonymous

12 missed shots don’t mean shit against 1 well placed one.

Miami Dade. FBI agent empties 2 12 shot magazines without landing a single hit and is killed while reloading his third.

            >combat
You know we're talking about home invasions and city streets here and not going into fricking combat and chasing down bank robbers, right? I'd rather have a gun that goes boom six times every time instead of a gun that may jam due to adrenaline-induced limp wristing. Though in real life, neither will really matter since the other guy is going to be running 99.9 percent of the time after you fire your first round.
            >suppression
Yeah, I got my neighbor to set up a machinegun nest in his balcony so we can set up a crossfire killzone in the street in case either of us get robbed.

I would wrap it in friction tape but that's my thing with "working" revolvers. It's only really "sticky" after you first put it on. Handle the gun a bunch the first couple of days after wrapping it, and wash your hands when you can feel the glue on them. Once you have most of the glue out it just feels like textured cloth(because it's cloth tape) yet it will get "sticky" with the heat of your hand. Always wrap from the bottom up. You will have to trim/burn the odd unraveling string every now and then as well. Also the glue could potentially damage/peel off the finish on wood grips.

          >bullets at typical self defense handgun velocities must physically touch tissue to damage it as there are no remote wounding effects caused by the temporary cavity exceeding the elasticity of human flesh at these velocities
          >in order to successfully incapacitate a threat via physical damage vital structures must be damaged
          >only rounds with adequate penetration can reach these vital structures
          >shot placement and penetration are the only factors that determine the effectiveness of any given round to cause physical damage to vital structures
          >the only downside to maximizing penetration with bullet selection is over-penetration
          >if you don't care about overpenetration there is no reason to ever use hollowpoints because they limit penetration in exchange for an increase in surface area which is only a theoretically worthwhile exchange if you know for a FACT that expansion will not limit your penetration to unacceptable levels
          >round nose bullets are inferior to bullets with square shoulders and flat meplats in their ability to cut tissue
          >assuming two rounds have equally adequate penetration the better round of the two will be the one you can shoot faster while maintaining accuracy.

Hits count. First hits count most. Carry whatever gun/caliber combo you can make fast accurate hits with. Everything else is marketing bullshit designed to have you paying for overpriced meme ammunition.

          >How do wadcutters perform compared to the .38 +P?
A wadcutter is a bullet type
+P refers to the amount of power in the case.
The two have nothing to do with each other, you could have normal wadcutters, +P wadcutters, etc.
That said, most wadcutter loads are meant for target shooting and are relatively weak, much weaker than the average +P load would be.

Does anyone have recommendations for either a 7 or 8 shot .357 at either 4" or 5"?
I'd like to carry it on my shoulder and hoping for something with either ported or comped barrels for faster follow up shots.
I've found that if you want the performance of comped/lower recoil they look uglier than shit (TRR8, etc.). Perfect option would be a lower (relatively speaking) recoil, 8-shot, 4.25" Python, but I can't find anything like that.

7 shot 586L, 3 inch with compensator but my honest review is that the sights are absolute dog shit (rear sight too narrow, front sight too wide) and I’m looking to get a Holosun EPS carry to put on it.

Thank you this is definitely up my alley. How bad is the recoil impulse for follow up shots? I live on the border of the bad side of town so that's my biggest concern.

Absolutely terrible since the shitty stock alamont grips did not fit right and cut into my thumb tearing off skin. With some shitty Amazon pachmyrs Velcro strapped on, full rubber backstrap, very manageable and I am now the menace of indoor ranges. and I can get a better grip with them. The grip screw doesn’t even work on them and they don’t even fit, I had to cut away material on the inside. I would buy hogue but they don’t have any compact sized rubber grips that have a full backstrap. Another anon I know of who has one went the VZ grips route.

My problem with the sights are
          1. Tritium tube might as well not even be there, they must have burned out before they even put them in
          2. Rear sight seems to be a standard size meant for 4-6 inch barrels and have a target notch (very little side to side gap). The notch is also very narrow

With it being a 3 inch barrel the front sight is pretty wide for the notch. Too wide. And they’re both black. The sights are just disappointing to use compared to my .44 Model 69 which have a orange front and white U outline rear. Replacing either the front or rear is not a easy task, unless you buy a complete new rear assembly. Which won’t match the front.

Even then I’m fairly confident of hitting man sized targets with magnum loads at 10 yards.

I have them painted white but the problem is the rear sight, and I don’t want to drop 120 dollars on a replacement rear that still won’t match the front (which will be another X expenditure).

I saw this guy’s set up and I’m about to copy it, except it’s a 19 and mines the 586.

There is not a big selection, there’s only like one shop that makes a “drop in” blade but the installation for any new blade involves breaking the current screw off and some dremeling. Several shops do combat style fixed rears which have the slight picture I want, but it seems like something I’d have to send in my gun for for it to be installed right.

I want to go cyberpunk anyway, this was supposed to be my carry gun but I found a 92 LTT compact for a good price (same price as this revolver but with 13 extra mags, amazing DA pull, the perfect combat sights) so this thing is just an adult fidget spinner right now.

I agree with the caveat that the trigger on the redhawk will be worse out of the box than a smith. it breaks in well after about 1000 rounds or you can polish it your self. but despite this the redhawk has better lockwork than the smith.

          Anonymous

          >despite this the redhawk has better lockwork than the smith.

lolno. You can tune a ruger action very nice with shims and polishing but it the potential of the S&W action with the same amount of work(but you won't need shims) is higher. There's no getting around the tolerance slop of a cast frame.

If it has less than 7 rounds of cylinder capacity then I would say yes, they're obsolete for gunfights. Plus if you're not carrying at least a couple of spare speedloaders or moonclips, you might as well just turn the gun on you and pull the trigger.

      Anonymous

The only thing that matters in a gun fight is your ability to put rounds on target. You only need 12 rounds if you couldn’t hit the target with the first 11. Now hitting a target is a lot harder when they’re shooting back but it’s all that matters, a round that misses has done nothing. Some people shoot better with a revolver, some with an auto, some can’t hit shit no matter what gun you give them.

But if you know you’re going to get into a gunfight, don’t bring a pistol, bring a rifle, a shotgun, anything with a stock.

From my understanding, 99.9% of the time the issue on the lock seems to be the airlite series and magnum loads. No other revolver seems to have that issue anymore. I imagine the extreme light weight and heavy recoil is just enough to potentially trigger it.

        Anonymous

        >seems to be the airlite series and magnum loads.
Clarification question: Do you mean that it seems to be the airlite series using magnum loads, or do you mean that the airlite series has a problem and using magnum loads is another problem? I'm in the market for either a .357 or .44 S&W right now.

          Anonymous

The idea is that the lock can engage itself under recoil, air lights and magnums is probably the most recoil a revolver can be under. However it’s been reported on K, L, N frames as well. You can just remove the lock. It takes like 30 minutes and gets you intimate with your revolver, there’s aftermarket plugs to fill the hole from the lock.

Then you have that whole Harrel take of "don't modify self defense firearms" but then you end up not leaving your 'locked' S&W revolvers in grab spots around the house and don't carry it. Then if you remove the lock you are in the same position, it just become a range toy only.

lie, obfuscate and do shady shit regardless of what you did or didn't do to your gun. If you think doing something to your gun improves your chances of surviving a DGU then do it.

Harrell is a paranoid boomer who does have a point but firearm modification is such a common thing these days it literally will not fly in court. The prosecutor can try but it only tells the Jury he’s literally scraping the bottom of the barrel. Rittenhouse’s prosecutor tried to use the rounds being “FMJ” to penetrate as many targets as possible and tried to use how Rittenhouse played Call of Duty. The prosecutor can try but it won’t work.

Now granted, there are some things you shouldn't do like paint "I hate Black folk" on the side of your carry gun, but you really shouldn't be concerned with prosecution arguments aside from serious fringe examples.

Let's just say you're carrying a standard glock in 9mm. The prosecution can say "This guy is using the same gun the police use! He's clearly trying to take the law into his own hands." Carry a revolver instead and you're dirty harry or larping as a cowboy. Look at the size of that giant .38 special round compared to a 9mm! Hollow points are evil, fmj is military spec. Modify it and the prosecution can call you bloodthirsty. Don't modify it and they'll say that you have no idea what you're doing and no idea how deadly guns are. It's also important to take into account how few self defense shootings go to court at all.

I meant that the airlight series using magnum loads seems to be the overwhelming number of cases of the lock flicking on. I have not heard of many cases of their heavier pistols having the issue. It seems exclusively a high recoil problem aggravated by the extreme lightness of the airlite series relative to the caliber they shoot. For instance, the somewhat comparable J-frame 642 doesn't seem to have the issue very much, perhaps due to the lower recoiling .38.

I personally don't see it as a critical issue, but some people are paranoid about it. I think it'd be more likely that someone fricks up my calipers when I get those changed on my car. But to each their own. S&W has some revolvers still sold that don't have them anymore so that may be an option for you.

            >S&W has some revolvers still sold that don't have them anymore

Only J-frames. The locks are dumb. The locks cost S&W sales. They KNOW everyone hates them. They don't even show that side of their revolvers on the website. Frick those buttholes I will never buy a smith with a lock.

              Anonymous

Well, J frame IS their top seller by a country mile. I imagine theres not many people who would truly buy one who is stopped by the lock. If there was, they wouldnt do it. But i dont think revolvers matter to S&W in terms of sales outside the 642, which is their #1 seller by a mile

I would've thought that one of their M&P semi-auto pistols would overtake the 642 at this point.

Nah that guy is fricking high. There's no way they sell more 642 than M&P shields.

Yeah, guy's delusional. I live in MA (Unfortunately, but it's where S&W is based if you didn't know.) Here's what's available at my closest store. Now you could make up some story about "Well, they have more M&Ps which means they're not selling!" but the fact is that I could go to literally any gun store in the state and ask for a new M&P and they will have it. It'll be a total gamble on whether or not they even stock new revolvers regularly.

                Anonymous

That's pretty close to my LGS as well. The only revolvers they had the last time I checked were a J-Frame or two and a GP100, but plenty of M&Ps along with the usual Sig and Glock shelves.

                Anonymous

Yeah, M&Ps are basically THE gun now. It was glocks like ten years ago, but S&W pretty quickly and easily took over the polymer frame, striker fired pistol market. Seems like Glocks won out because there wasn't a serious competitor before and police surplus gave them an edge in price. Glock needs to actually compete now instead of just exist.

I'm a revolvergay through and through, but the simple fact of the matter is that they're a niche/hipster choice. For a pocket gun, you're still usually getting an extra round or two and the benefit of easier reloads when talking about a pistol. For a full size gun, pistols carry three or four times the ammo and are STILL smaller and beat reload speed.

                Anonymous

Naw, Glocks are still king, but they have definitely taken a backseat to all the choices that exist today. M&P is probably 2nd/tied with sig.

The P365 was the killing blow for CCW revolvers.

                >shorter overall length than a j-frame
                >weighs less than most j-frames, barring the scandium models
                >much better trigger than a da revolver
                >holds 10 rounds compared to a j-frame's 5 or 6 shots

Anyone who is carrying a DA is doing so because they like DA triggers. I'd rather have a heavy trigger on a carry gun. Plus the extra capacity means more weight, the P365 is about 23 ounces loaded.

Hey guys, it looks like my S&W M1917 is piercing primers when firing in single action. When I fire in DA I sometimes get light strikes too. Out of the 100 rounds of S&B .45 I fired today, it looks like 4 of these were pierced. Has anyone dealt with this before?

      Anonymous

Without being able to inspect the gun my first suspicion would be the ammo quality. Have you tested other types of ammo? DA does hit slightly softer than SA but to go from light strikes to pierced primers just from that variance is a breddy big shift. What does the firing pin look like? Have you measured the protuberance of the firing pin through the frame?

        Anonymous

The other day I fired 50 rounds of magtech, and had two light strikes, but that was it. I'll look into it more and will post my findings. Thanks, anon.

          Anonymous

Have you taken it apart and inspected/lubed it? Let's say for argument sake that the pierced primers was ammo related but the light strikes aren't. It might be as simple as a filthy/dry internal mechanism slowing your hammer just enough.

I want to get into big bore revolvers at some point. I'm split between .45 Colt and .44 Magnum. I want to use it as a range toy to shoot big bullets. .45 ACP gave me a thing for .45 caliber bullets, but .44 Magnum doesn't require Ruger-only loads to reach true magnum territory. I figure I could download .44 Magnum to bunny fart levels for easy shooting if I wanted too.

I plan on getting into reloading as well, so ammo availability is not a problem.

      Anonymous

I mean you can download 45 to do that too. And can't you reuse the .45 ACP bullet heads for .45 LC?

      Anonymous

.45 colt if you want to be a cowboy. .44 magnum if you want to be an 80s PI.

.45lc is generally loaded lighter and is """weaker""" than .44 in most factory loads, but if you're talking about handloading and using modern guns, you can load them both pretty identically. The choice is basically down to aesthetics if you're planning on loading your own ammo.

      Anonymous

If I were you and did all the things you plan on doing, like reloading, I would put my faith in 44 magnum. I don't have any facts about .45 LC ballistics but I have shot .44 magnum and it's an absolute beast. Plus instead of larping for a self defense shooting you can larp a bear defense scenario

      >There is a 99.9 chance the revolver will only be fired for target shooting

      and?

Is abyss-deep concealed pocket carry worth losing the external hammer? The hammer is one of the core pieces of revolver aesthetics to me.

See if they have a Taurus 856 you can check out when you go to the LGS. Small .357s are dumb, it has one more round than the SP101 and it's half the cost.

        Anonymous

Small .357s do seem kind of dumb, and I kind of fear he'll hate shooting .357 out of something that small, but we went to a LGS and that's what he seemed to like. Guess he can always shoot .38 out of it, it'd be cheaper anyway. Might have to mention the extra round out of the 856 though

You can get 115 grain .357 it doesn't really kick or blast that much.

If you can perform a proper inspection before you do any paperwork then yes they are good especially for the money. Remember it's probably steel(although they do make aluminum versions) and it has one more shot so it's slightly larger than a J-frame and being steel will be heavier so if you're going for pocket carry it might be a tiny bit too large/heavy depending on your pockets so the J-frame still might be the better choice.

You can skip launching a pencil out the barrel lol.
Just check the timing on each cylinder and check that each chamber is properly aligned with the bore and that the hammer(if it has one) doesn't "push off" of full wiener and you should be good. Make sure with any new revolver you lube it when you get it. If you're too pussy to take the sideplate off you can shoot some lube in the hammer and trigger slots and work the action a few times. Here's how you take the cylinder apart to clean the cylinder pin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6lQprzO1nw

remember any friction on the cylinder pin increases the friction of the entire system. Don't lube to cylinder pin as it will only attract crud. If you MUST lube it go very lightly. God speed anon.

        see

        >bullets at typical self defense handgun velocities must physically touch tissue to damage it as there are no remote wounding effects caused by the temporary cavity exceeding the elasticity of human flesh at these velocities
        >in order to successfully incapacitate a threat via physical damage vital structures must be damaged
        >only rounds with adequate penetration can reach these vital structures
        >shot placement and penetration are the only factors that determine the effectiveness of any given round to cause physical damage to vital structures
        >the only downside to maximizing penetration with bullet selection is over-penetration
        >if you don't care about overpenetration there is no reason to ever use hollowpoints because they limit penetration in exchange for an increase in surface area which is only a theoretically worthwhile exchange if you know for a FACT that expansion will not limit your penetration to unacceptable levels
        >round nose bullets are inferior to bullets with square shoulders and flat meplats in their ability to cut tissue
        >assuming two rounds have equally adequate penetration the better round of the two will be the one you can shoot faster while maintaining accuracy.

Hits count. First hits count most. Carry whatever gun/caliber combo you can make fast accurate hits with. Everything else is marketing bullshit designed to have you paying for overpriced meme ammunition.

Any gun is enough gun if you practice with it and can make solid hits with it. The gun is the least important part of self defense.
