Revitalizing an old brick

I recently inherited a Stag15 LEO like in the pic here. It's heavy as frick for my frail 11 year old boy with leukemia arms and I'd like to modernize it overall without going overboard. Gonna throw my favorite magpul stock and grip on it and I like the fsb as is, but what do with the handguard? This is their own propriety handguard system it looks like, and quadrails are so obsolete it's hard to know what'll work on this thing. I wish it was just an old delta ring that I could throw an MOE SL on and be done with it. I'm not sure if the handguard options on their site will fit this older rifle, and I'm really not keen on taking it to a smith if that's what it takes for this design (I lack the tools and experience to do something like taking off the barrel to swap a handguard) so I'd like to ask you guys for tips

Should I just deal with the ancient forend and keep it oldschool (at that point I'll source KAC stuff and make a retro build), or do you guys know any shit that'll fit this thing? I'd like a slim mlok one like my airsoft M4 if possible, but I'm not too upset about some old KAC rail covers and either.

if its a samson quad rail like in the pic it is good quality. but if you aren't expecting to put anything on the rails you would be better off with the magpul one. people shit on full MOE drip but it definitely cuts down the weight.

I'm reading the samson handguards use milspec barrel nuts, do you know if I'd be able to put a delta ring on the barrel nut as is or if I'd need a specific barrel nut for this? I'd be fine with full MOE since it's just rescuing an older rifle, but I'd like an aluminum mlok handguard.

Christ the onions emanating from this post is burning my retinas. Don't want to be that guy, but if you're too weak to carry a non skeletonised AR you probably got bigger problems than the weight.

It was a joke you fricking moron. I also don't have leukemia, and I'm 25.

I am aware you are not an 11 year old with leukemia but it seems you actually are fairly weak. Don't just train your weapons train your body.

The gun is a little heavier than I'd like. That is why I made that joke. I don't struggle to lift it, I work in a frickin warehouse dog I carry 410a for a living lmao. Autists not taking joke seriously challenge.

Shoot it make sure it's not a jamming pos first if you haven't already before investing money into it. I'd keep the samson railed forend since it's a stag. Throw a foregrip on it and a light, then cover the remaining rails with kac covers. Rear sight and red dot or scope and call it good. 5.56 expensive now so you might consider a cmmg conversion kit.

If you end up liking it a lot and it turns out to be reliable then you can proceed to throw money at it. That samson rail will do most all you need. If you are considering replacing just shit tons of parts, just get a new rifle to start as a base for what you really want and use the stag as a beater mag dumper and spare parts gun.

Taken it to the range a few times, it shoots wonderfully, actually super light shooting thanks to the weight. Keeping it as is would be fine. I think I might just keep it vanilla, see what airsoft stuff I have laying around to slap on before I decide to either get a new handguard or buy better stuff to put on than mystery chinese grips.

I’ll be frank with you anon that rifle is probably the same weight/profile as an M4A1 at about 7-8lb and if its too much for you you should really look into extra shoulder and arm work at the gym. Failing that, build a CAR-15 with a pencil barrel if you need to weightmaxx

I will never, the MOE handguard sucks. It just rattles around and is no bueno. Do a Car-15 build and throw a LAM on the FSB with a diemaco tri-rail, c7 style

I grew up with the magpul kitted rifles being the cool, modern rifles. I do not care that they've fallen out of zeitgeist, and a lot of their bad rep comes from people I guess like me, just looking for cheap furniture for their only rifle, except I'm at least going to see what others have to input first.

I’ll be frank with you anon that rifle is probably the same weight/profile as an M4A1 at about 7-8lb and if its too much for you you should really look into extra shoulder and arm work at the gym. Failing that, build a CAR-15 with a pencil barrel if you need to weightmaxx

It's an old quadrail. I'd like to shave 8 ounces off.

Get an Eotech 518 or a 30mm Aimpoint for it. KAC grip or similar and an older Surefire light and you got a kino PD patrol rifle for the next round of race riots. That rifle will do anything that the new meta will do besides be under 8 pounds loaded.

I am partial to that look...

    >modernize
literally just put an acog on it & you're done
if you want a little more spice, put a laser on it
and if you're really feeling for some, uh, "heat", put a suppressor on it

And I'm gonna be honest here lads, I'm not afraid of any bubba stuff. My uncle was absolutely a bubba, he had a shitty 40 dollar Amazon 10x scope with lasers on the thing before I redpilled him on putting the carry handle back on until he could get a real optic. I do not mind the rifle being a little bit mallrat, if anything that keeps it in his spirit in a way. So no, MOE forends rattling around an not maintaining a LAM zero is not a concern.

Just build another one that's lighter weight. I've got a bomb proof heavy boy with all 2010 era stuff like a mid length troy quad rail and an aimpoint pro and a heavy flashlight and it's the rifle I trust the most. Rail is never going to budge, the aimpoint pro in the original mount could take a sledgehammer and remain intact and the elzetta flashlight mount is secure as hell. Also the classic FSB will never risk having a screw back out or anything. I loctite my gas blocks but it'll never be as secure as a pinned FSB.

    >Quad rail is obsolete
    >Too heavy
It's an average of 3 to 4 ounces difference in weight. It is almost unnoticeable. People just think it feels much heavier because their twink fingers get hurt from touching anything not tube shaped like a dick. Being able to attach whatever you want at any time with 0 hassle will never be obsolete lmao. Mlok is a side grade at best and an annoyance at worst.
