Pull the exhaust and make sure it isn't plugged up. A lot of them have a screen in them that will get plugged/fouled up with soot and block off all airflow out of the engine.

Have you tried switching it on?

Also make sure the kill switch is to the on/run position sounds stupid, but I have one of my many string trimmers that switches off and stays off and about once a year I'll go to start it and get pissed and then remember it needs to be switched to run and it'll start up first pull after that. and you didn't say you put gas/oil mix in it but I assume you did!

It's in the ON position and I cleaned the exhaust screen with a torch and brush. The tank is full of mixed fuel.

      Is the battery charged?

Make sure the cables are working, sometimes they rust on the inside and stop. You can look where they attach and prop it with some pliers, this is essentially you starting the engine with the throttle completely depressed.

Pull the plug and see if you have spark at the spark plug when it is grounded at the head fins and you pull the cord. If the plug is wet then it is flooded. Dry the plug off with some fire and then reinstall it. Then fully open the throttle while you crank it over to help clear the flood. If you can't get any spark then you might need a new ignition coil.

Was it running at all before you started fiddling with it?

Oh and while the plug is out you can put your thumb over the spark plug hole and pull the starter cord and see what kind of compression you have too.

lmao and yu checked for spark? some magnetos fail very early; internal shorting prevents any voltage from building up for proper ignition. at least you did a ton of preventative maintenance!

also, if it aint getting compression u may need a cylinder replacement... sometimes running with bad air filter can wreck ur piston ring/cylinder and its a full rebuild from there.

      This.

First, lern 2 troubleshoot and see if you have spark. If you see a spark and can run it off starter fluid, maybe your carb isn’t set properly.

If no spark, make sure the kill switch circuit is all good. If that’s good and you know the plug is good and wire isn’t damaged but still no spark, most likely ignition coil (magneto as other anon called it, more search terms are better). Pic related.

Me too. And I sometimes forget when to pull the cord.

    There are several components.
    Does it have spark?
The easy way to test is to pull the spark plug, hold on to it an hold the engine while a friend pulls the cord. Or, if you don't like the friend, have them hold the spark plug. If you have spark, you'll know immediately.

There are better ways to test, you'll find that on youtube.

If you have spark, it is probably a fuel problem.
If you have fuel on the spark plug after several attempts, it may be a compression problem. This could be the clogged screen.

It will be one of these three things. An internal compression engine needs 3 things to run, fuel, ignition and compression.

I have that exact same machine, did every goddammed thing suggested in this thread plus a bunch more, after the first six months of owning it it never ran more than 5 minutes at any one time, even considered taking it to the local factory authorized repair center but they wanted more for a new carb than the whole thing cost new, and it would have been the third one.

If you look online you'll see that this is so common that you can't even type "husqvarna 128" into a search engine without the autocomplete adding "wont start/ stay running"

Its an utter piece of flaming dogshit, the solution is to cut your losses and buy a Stihl.

To be fair I usually do that on my 98 Ranger with 200k miles. I can usually diagnose it down to 1-3 closely related parts and replace the lot of them at once. That way I only need to tear down the system once, saving my labor time at the cost of replacing parts that are nearing the end of their life anyway.

There's a metal screen on the exhaust..let engine get.warm it's easier to remove, but be careful as it's hot.

I have done no diagnostic work just keep replacing random parts. Why doesn't it work????
Have you tried not being moronic and figuring out why it doesn't work?

for keks you might want to check that the engine isn't flooded, especially if you ran it on choke for too long or (as was my case) mixed too much oil into the damn thing, that was a headache and a half, there just was too much oil in the engine.

I also would recomend that you check for spark and compression, run without an exhaust if you dare, might be clogged further down, corosion on electrical contacts could be an issue or a cracked insulator causing a spark outside the engine, it could also be a shot alternator.

If everything is fine and in order and it still won't work, dispose of the engine, it will not work regardless of what you do...
