My best friend enlisted in 2007. Was a gunner, mustanged, was a FISTer at some point and finished up running a counter-battery radar thing. He left the Army in 2020 with medical a medical discharge >tfw suuper catholic so the vax was no bueno
So despite being in one of the most in-demand roles for the sandbox, he got one (1) deployment in 2019 and it was to cover the withdrawal. He didnt even get a CIB.
The army is a big thing and it has lots of commitments. If you do stuff that has lots of school time and bounce between units, and you start in from one unit that just got out and then bounce to another that just got out you could easily spend like 5 years in garrison.

I agreed with what they said about formations. Fireteams and intra-squad movement should be reserved for actual attacks when you're already past the ORP or assault position. WWII era US Army infantry doctrine got it right - Keep the squad in file and just bump out the scouts. Exception being bounding overwatch which should really be done with multiple squads but if all you got is one then you just gotta work with what you got. Essentially just constantly moving in a movement to contact with the scouts performing small scale reconnaissance patrols when and where needed. But the file and line formations are really the only two you actually need.

I was unaware of the coordinated use of different styles of drone, (spotter quadcopter what I gather is more of a racing style attack drone) and that the the soldiers use the tone to identify which is near. Obviously top cover is important but I wasn't aware they were using curtains to keep the drones physically out of the trench. I also hadn't realized they used cellphones. That surprised me.

I agreed with what they said about formations. Fireteams and intra-squad movement should be reserved for actual attacks when you're already past the ORP or assault position. WWII era US Army infantry doctrine got it right - Keep the squad in file and just bump out the scouts. Exception being bounding overwatch which should really be done with multiple squads but if all you got is one then you just gotta work with what you got. Essentially just constantly moving in a movement to contact with the scouts performing small scale reconnaissance patrols when and where needed. But the file and line formations are really the only two you actually need.

Legit one of the more interesting videos. I was unaware of the coordinated use of different styles of drone, (spotter quadcopter what I gather is more of a racing style attack drone) and that the the soldiers use the tone to identify which is near. Obviously top cover is important but I wasn't aware they were using curtains to keep the drones physically out of the trench. I also hadn't realized they used cellphones. That surprised me.
At the end of the day, if you are being asked to storm a trench, you will die the exact same way as if you are an untrained conscript from Siberia or a T1 spec ops badass
