Raspberry smartphone

I want to make my own smartphone with a physical keyboard.
How, tho?
Where do I get started? My main issue is how to get a keyboard that I can get interfaced with Rasp. Not USB. Are there old Blackberry keypads, for instance, that can be easily interfeced with Rasp using I2C or something?
I will remove the USB ports from the Rasp because they make it to thick.

You can always just hook up to the bare keyboard matrix and use whatever.
Add some shift registers if you run out of pins.

the problem is that BB keyboard doesnt come with the circuitry, just the keycaps and some weird ribbon cable connecteur
No idea how to get a miniature keyboard for a Raspberry

That sounds like a regular BB replacement keyboard. In the picture however you can see clearly a pinout on the PCB with SDA/SCL, indicating I2C. Qwiic is a brand or line of microelectronic modules

I remember like 7 years ago there was a hacker conference, maybe defcon. They gave everyone a diy phone that would only work there and call people based on the number on their name badge. Thought it was cool.

What's the best mini computer to make a smartphone out of?

Raspberry Pi 3? Orange Pi Zero? Surely not Arduino?

Such a thing exists, It's called the "beepy". But it's stuck in a waiting list or something.

Meme, it's text only. Toy for programmer nerds. Which is fine if it was $20, but more likely if it ever sells, it will be over $100.

      Wrong board

PrepHole is just a brand prostitute flame war board

OP I want one too, but the easiest way I see now is to buy a factory one and modify it. I'd like one for meshtastic and aprsdroid. 3d print a extra thicc case to fit all the radio shit in, maybe a big lipo too to run that brick.

    >USB ports
You don't need the actual USB plug to use USB, just solder the keyboard directly to the board.
I also recommend you get an orange pi.
Linux sucks for small screens and orange works with android pur of the box, raspi you need to dick around with.
    >q10 keyboards are a dime a dozen on Ali and you can find guides on how to convert them to i2c if you really want
You do know they still make them, right?
