If you put a prism optic behind a reddot as one would a magnifyier, can you cowitness the prism retical to the red dot, then remove the red dot? Would the prism have zero?

I've never tried this but it stands to reason. You definitely won't get a perfect zero but it's probably at least as good as bore sighting, probably better if they're co-witnessed. I would say try it as a starting place.

They're covering similar ground asking a slightly different question in this video, anon - seems to be plausible. They're basically positing if it's useful to be able to use a prism as a magnifier instead of just a bare magnifier.

should I (Eastfield Model 916 20ga) replace the trigger plate on this cheap ass shotgun I bought because of this crack in it?
As far as I can tell it’s just a guide hole for the trigger plate retention
    screw
alternatively, I contemplated filling it with jb-weld, sanding it down and running it that way

It's a cheap gun, I'd say try to fix it yourself

        >Mig
you don't even need mig if its aluminum
you can just use brazing rods & a propane torch, like $50 all together from walmart
the braze should even be stronger than the receiver too

Using ammoseek to find decently priced 9mm,12 gauge shells/minishells, abd eventually 5.56/.223 . What are good brands that you guys use? I found one from Freedom Munitions, 20 bucks for 50 9mm rounds. I know as cheap as possible is best but also don't want shifty rounds. I'm hoping to buy a box of ammo once or twice a month to slowly build up a stash instead of bulk buying.

    why is nu /k/ moronic

  9. 2 months ago

Nogunz so this may be a moronic question.
I always hear that free-floated barrels are better for a bunch of reasons, but whenever I see a gun that has one the handguard always stops before the muzzle of the gun.
If you have a "hollow" handguard ie: AR pattern rifles, wouldn't it be better to have the handguard extend past the barrel so if you accidentally smack the gun on something or drop it the barrel won't get impacted? Obviously you'd need to leave room for muzzle blast or flash hider ports, and would need it to be heat resistant so maybe a metal sleeve that attached to the end of the handguard

Or am I seriously underestimating the durability of a gun barrel and you'd have to hit something really fricking hard to knock it off center

Yeah you'd have to fall off a building or swing your rifle like a bat to mess it up that way.

free floated barrels are a meme
it actually just depends on the ammo, choose a better bullet, and you'll get a gun that outshoots you
yeah, they do have benefits, yet its just not enough to justify having a real preference
choose the gun you can shoot with, not the gun people told you you can shoot with

How did you come to such a wrong conclusion?
If you consistently rest the rifle on a bag the same way for every shot, sure. I guess you can have consistency that way but it is super easy to flex a barrel from the weight of some guns or just by holding it. Free floating prevents this. It isn't just about consistent harmonics, although there is that too.

You can get 1 moa and maybe even sub with a basic b***h AR but its still important to note that resting the handguard directly on stuff will shift POI at range. It may not affect grouping size but an M4A1 shifts POI 6 inches at 300 meters when resting it directly on a barricade. Think of it like how an RPK has to zero for both with and without the bipod

from a practical stand point, a freefloater just doesn't matter
again, yes, it is more precise, yet the amount is negligible in a standard rifle
half of a gun is it's ammo, and anyone that reloads will know that the bullet is just as important as the barrel itself
its like people debating a barrel's length, a typical person in the standard scenario of shooting their gun is just not going outshoot it, and thats just at the range, in warfare its even moreso
literally just making a barrel thicker completely negates any deflection, and mere fluting nullifies weight & increases heat dissipation ontop
a better bullet will always beat a freefloating barrel

      Anonymous

Free floated will always be more accurate, you don't want the handguard extending past the barrel it's just asking for your hand to get shot or burned by the gasses.

      they blow up
muzzle blast is a hell of a thing
also the steel barrel is stronger than some thin aluminum
