Promotion and a move to Fairbanks, Alaska

So, it's looking like I will be earning a promotion, and likely being moved out to Fairbanks, Alaska by my company.
I'm a (Northern) Floridian.
How fricked am I, bros?
I already live innawoods. I hunt and fish and garden frequently.
But i'm not gonna lie, I'm nervous as frick about the cold. I get uncomfy at 50 degrees F.
so. How fricked am I?

I've been looking into it, and people are saying that a MASSIVE component of all this is the clothing. I'm uncomfy at 50 degrees because florida clothing is shit for cold mitigation, and clothes available in Alaska are actually appropriate and do their job.
I cant imagine walking around at -30 degrees though lmfao.

Fellow FL Anon planning to move to AK next summer. Fairbanks had some pretty wicked temperature shifts to be sure. I wouldn't personally want to live in the Interior, but don't sell yourself short: you'll be fine. Dress in layers obviously, pay attention to the weather. I used to be worried about driving in snow, but honestly I don't think it'll be too bad. I get by just fine in torrential downpours surrounded by old ladies, immigrants, and tourists that all drive like morons. Keep an eye out for critters though, they're a lot bigger than ours and liable to frick you up in an accident. Cold is probably one of the last things you need to worry about, you'll get used to it.

Believe it or not, some of us actually do go PrepHole. I know that's probably hard for a larper such as yourself to believe.

I grew up in Fairbanks, AK and moved to Pensacola, FL. Dad was USAF. OP, you're fricking fricked LOL, there's no two ways to say it. Anchorage is doable, but Fairbanks is on a whole other level. Good fricking luck. My transition was piss easy, but the reverse is not.

Don't live in Fairbanks but people who've been in Alaska for years were saying how warm a winter it was. It got -20f where I am, it was uncomfortable.

What company do you work for that is in north Florida and is offering you a 200k salary to move to their operation in Fairbanks AK? Unless you're a field mechanic for an equipment dealership, I have a really hard time believing that this post is real.

Petroleum engineer would make sense to me.

My guess would be some type of manager position in either mining or petroleum.
They are usually engineers and since its 24/7 operations they also have to be on call weekends and the like bumping up pay significantly.

You'll acclimate. Moved from Houston to Fairbanks for 3 years. Loved the cold, back in Houston now. Major downside will be all the army kids in town and natives are drunk 24/7.

You'll get used to it, but good clothing and wear layers. The more you're exposed to cold climates the less uncomfortable you'll be.
