Everyone who imagines themselves LARPing around, foraging food, growing tomatoes and forming Fallout-esque raider bands to take from (insert those of the political persuasion that you don't like) are morons who will be dead within a month. The only smart way to ride out the apocalypse is to sit on your ass and wait for everybody to die.
Buy wheat and vacuum seal it. It will last for 20 years. Mix it with water to make various kinds of quick bread. Also stockpile salt and cheap multivitamins. This will keep an adult alive and healthy for at least a year.
If you have children, you need ghee. It is the most shelf stable form of fat and children are far more susceptible to fat deficiencies than adults. Rice is stupid, it costs more per calorie than flour, contains less protein and requires more water and effort to prepare.
I don't agree with this strategy or prepping in general. The key is to find something sustainable. In a collapse, stockpiles will still run out (even if that were enough for 2-3 years), and then what?
Better to just make small changes and not be so 'dependent'. I think grocery stores/markets will still exist no matter what happens geopolitically.

Rice can last indefinitely if kept dry inside of a suitable container. If you pick up a bag of rice it will have a use by date but that is only the ETA of the packaging failing in some way. Pretty much the same thing with honey, sugars, high proof alcohols and things like pickled and dried foods. Rice is itself nothing but a dried grass / cereal seeds and you should expect the price of those to shoot right the way up as drying it right after harvest is energy intensive and critical to a successful harvest.
I'm just going to bet rice that would feed you for a week / bulk out your stores for one week after shit hits the fan would cost you a lot less than that kit.

I've never seriously stockpiled to prep or anything but I often bulk buy a lot of things like soup so I won't have to go outside for another few years and nothing lasts much longer than that. So if you buy like, 1k of food to prepare in case of collapse are you replacing it every 2-3 years? Even things that are technically still edible will end up being weird. There is stuff like MREs that will last and last but a lot of preppers have this other canned shit that is going to be fricked.

Besides, food shortages don’t necessarily mean that society has collapsed and that people are gunning each other down in the streets for sticks of butter. I was down in Louisiana assisting after Katrina and most people just moved to a place and waited until someone helped them. Sure, a few people went Mad Max, but I bet you can guess the neighborhoods in which this happened. Hint: nothing like the one I live in. We underestimate just how dependent most people are on government and society as it is laid out right now. These people will likely just starve believing the government won’t allow it.
As for those who are a bit more self-sufficient, there is an advantage in being comfortable with a full belly when planning your next move in a crisis. People who are lacking food and thus sleep do not make the best decisions. It’s why they basically starve you and deny sleep in military training to see how you operate under extreme stress. It may not always be possible to shelter in place, but considering all of the planning and reinforcement of my homestead that I’ve done, I’ll take my chances hanging tight in most crises except environmental or nuclear disaster; in either case I am probably too dead to care.

Likelihood is that no one will investigate yet another random house with the lights off. Most houses will not have resources worth looking for in them, they will rapidly become part of the background.
This is especially true of suburban areas, which are already lacking in resources and hard to reach. It just won't be worth it to look for food out there.

Luckily, my area hasn't been screwed by anything since 2014 when the power was out for like 2 weeks and store shelves were empty locally, but my job takes me some 30-80 miles from home a couple times a week, so I was able to stock up on company time during the first week. Never again. I STAY stocked now, and here we are in hurricane season again

FEMA tells every American to stock no less than a 2 week supply. They also provide advise for longer term supplies. Basically everyone, from the skitzos to the local CERT volunteers suggest you be ready for a national or local emergency. Those that have been prepared are in a better position, everytime. If there even is raiders you don't even need to spend much ammo. Any gang of thugs spending their own ammo too much will not be around for very long. They will mostly intimidate soft targets, which means people who are not armed and have no stockpiles. On top of that you need to just shoot few men trying to get you, like a sniper, the psychological effect will be efficient deterrent.

I've found that a lot of people don't realize that most seeds you buy are from Monsanto and their fruits have seeds that are infertile intentionally so you can't use those seeds to plant more, you have to buy more from Monsanto israelites. Get heirloom seeds if you can find them.

The basic appeal of prepping is that you're living a pretty mediocre existence now living on the middle/lower rung of society, but there will be some great upheaval, and a complete re-ordering of society. You, through your foresight and your prepping efforts, will have your existence transformed from the mid/low rung you occupy now, to being the new elite in the post-upheaval order.

big garden, forager, seed saver, homegrower, moonshiner
even if youre not a prepper its a good idea to buy bulk seasonal foods, when they are cheap and plentiful and learn to preserve them
i see these expensive food posts and its always obvious that these people cant shop and cant cook
