Obligatory. Been carrying this for half a decade now. The factory velvet holster sweats through in minutes and presto you got a rusty pistol. Never again. Cereal box cardboard and duct tape TFW. I'm a 5'9 manlette, so an LCP-sized pistol is a pretty good fit. Anything larger and it's an IWB holster at that point. Duct tape holster doesn't print the firearm itself at all, sometimes looks like you've got a squarish cell phone in your pocket.

Pretty based and creative. If it's stupid, but it works, it isn't stupid. On an unrelated note, the way you said "half a decade" was a bit odd to me. It's such a strange way of saying "a few years" or "about five years."

I like pocket carry. Instead of strapping on a holster every time I go out, I just toss the LCR in my pocket and go. I made a kydex holster for the LCR to break up the gun-shaped outline a bit, but even without the holster, I'm not worried about the double action trigger getting accidentally pulled in my pocket. The largest gun I would pocket carry would probably be a Makarov or something similarly sized.

I don’t feel comfortable carrying a handgun raw dog, and all the picket holsters I’ve tried have sucked. I have bought a couple of the soft, supposedly grippy ones and really tried to practice drawing. From ideal conditions I can’t 100% without the holster also coming out with the gun, and a self defense situation will certainly be more chaotic. Not reliable enough so I keep doing IWB in various friction holsters. “Pocket guns” IWB are pretty nice though, they weigh almost nothing and are easy to carry in a single clip holster. Good for throwing on when feeling too lazy for something bigger

Yes it’s convenient when I’m checking the mail or running a quick errand. I wouldn’t pocket anything bigger than a J frame myself mainly for comfort and definitely something not DA without a holster.

I believe it's prudent to carry a pistol when I check the mail.

No, but I've been considering it for summer. I can't carry IWB because I'm in enough lower body pain as it is and I can't stand it constantly jabbing me. Plus, I can't bring myself to appendix carry because I like having my penis, and carrying at 6 o'clock is just asking for someone to take it from me. Can't carry at my hip IWB because it just sticks out. My go-to CC method is to OWB a full-size handgun on my hip and throw a jacket on, but the problem is that I can't do this in summer without attracting undue attention.
I've been considering some compact gun in .25 or some other little caliber, maybe about the size of a Colt 1908 or Baby Browning. I don't really tuck my shirt in so if it's something small enough, I could probably still OWB it in a holster on my hip and let my shirt conceal it, but something I could also just put in my pocket if I have to.

I carry a new production baby browning in a desantis pocket holster and it is peak comfy. I always have my gun with me, even in gym shorts. Prints less than my phone and weighs just 2 oz more. Beretta jetfire (not bobcat) is another great similarly sized pistol but much more affordable used.

Yes it's a PSA. Got it used in great condition from guns.com for half its new price (1200 is alot). They also have older models (psp25) which pop up pretty often for decent prices. It absolutely oozes quality, definitely as well manufactured as the original fn baby if not better. You can always get jetfires for 3-400 too and they are almost as small and light but with +2 rounds of capacity.
Most other 25's are surprisingly large and heavy and you might as well get a 32/380 seecamp or a ruger lcp.
Aside from the Raven mp-25 (sometimes they are good) definitely stay away from ROF as a self defense gun. But anything based on the original browning design is a decent bet (CZ, colt, etc) keep an eye out for something in good condition for a decent price that catches your eye.

Maybe. I fricked up my leg nerves by carrying too big of a gun in my pocket.

A glock 19, the gun I gave myself sciatica with. I did it while doing long haul drives. I'm starting to normalize now after 2 years of having to stretches and squats 3-4 times a week or it get so bad I couldn't walk.

    >Do you pocket carry?
    Yes

    >Is it a bad idea?
No, but it is general inadvised or sub-optimal

Some examples when you would pocket carry...
    >forced by your circumstances to wear your shirt tucked in and you cant carry a holster on your belt because it will be seen
    >to wear in the summer when its too hot to wear enough clothes to cover your full sized handgun
    >you need something convenient you can just throw in the pocket of your gym shorts while you run a quick errand

    >What is the abobawde largest handgun you'd be able to pocket carry without it being obvious
This of course is relative to your body size, type of pocket (pants, jacket, gym shorts etc) but i would say if you are looking for a pocket gun get something no larger than 4 inches tall and 6 inches long, and try to stay about 1 inch or less wide. the thinner the better especially if you aren't wearing baggy pants so consider a single stack.

Make sure the gun you are using is safe to pocket carry, some halmarks of a "pocket safe" gun are long/heavy trigger pulls, like 10lbs + if you need a number, DA/SA, DAO, Manual Safety, or just use any gun you want and use a pocket holster or trigger guard only holster.

      Anonymous

add on to this, the main downside of pocket carry is the draw time, you are never going to be as fast drawing from your jeans pocket as you are from a OWB kydex holster, or even a AIWB holster, you just arent! this doesnt making pocket carrying a bad idea though, its just a trade off. You are trading concealability and convenience for speed, which is is not a bad trade if that is worth it to you in your circumstances

    >pocket carry

      >Imagine fumbling with your pocket just find a grip on your pistol.

the first part is solved by carrying it in a holster, the second part is solved by not being fat. plus, youre in a car just drive away or run them over

        >the first part is solved by carrying it in a holster, the second part is solved by not being fat.
        Nothing is "solved" dipshit.
Pocket draw will always be slower and more awkward than drawing from an actual holster on your belt.
        Especially when seated.
        Crossdraw is superior.

why does /k/ think every carry issue is the result of being fat? It doesn't matter how skinny you are, getting stuff from your front pockets while seated is slow and cumbersome.

The entire concept of pocket carrying is based on accepting certain compromises with a smaller gun in exchange for convenience and comfort. That includes forgoing some of the newest fancy accessories. People have been doing just fine without handgun optics for quite a long time, so I'm not worried about it.

    >triggers removed and hammers modified for slipping
    >walk down street with hands in pockets holding colts
    >both hammers back whenever anyone gets close
    >left hammer back while shaking hands with right hand
    >even if the other guy gets the jump on you and somehow instantly kills you, you're going to put a bullet or two into him on your way out

    >Do you pocket carry?
Yeah. In my experience, the best way to pocket carry is in pockets that are on your legs like with cargo pants. Pocket carry is useless if you're sitting down (especially in a car) because you're actively working against your pants fabric and folds to get the gun out. Depending how big your pockets are, then gun might twist and turn in your pocket if it's small and in a "sticky" pocket holster as well.
    >Is it a bad idea?
I think you get more NDs out of it because the holsters aren't kydex and are usually some combitnation of nylon, polyester, and cotton The guns also build up a lot of pocket lint which can mud up the action (once I had so much lint on the back of my LCP MAX's firing pin that it looked like it would slow the hammer).
    >What is the absolute largest handgun you’d be able to pocket carry without it being obvious?
Probably just an LCP / LCP MAX or a snub-nose revolver for the average user including me. Glock 26/27 if you're morbidly obese I'd imagine.
