piezo ignition

The piezo igniter on my stove never worked for shit. I had to choke down cold uncooked Mountain Haus meals on my last trip. I'm thinking about buying pic related MSR piezo igniter; it works just like the one on my stove but you hold it like a lighter. Does anybody have any experience with it? I don't carry a lighter or matches.

I got one to have an alternate way to light my stove if my lighter became unusable. It works very well, you just hold it to the burner while the gas is on and strike it until the stove lights. It's small and pretty cheap so I would recommend it.

      Thank you.

What stove do you have friend?

My ,out used stove has no igniter I just use a Bic.

      Pocket Rocket Deluxe.

Why carry extra weight if you don't need to?

        >Why carry extra weight if you don't need to?
Well the piezoelectric igniter on your chink stove took a shit on you, so I guess you did need to. Good thing you saved a whopping 3grams by not putting a mini bic in your pocket. This is why I don't feel bad when retards die outdoors, if anyone has it coming, its people with attitudes like this.

          I didn't die though.

Is carry matches seriously to much of a fucking chore in 2023?

Matches seriously suck. If they're not bone dry they don't work.

Dude, a standard bic lighter weigh 13 grams and reliably gives you a fire. That's one of the best weigh for practicality ratios. You are a moron for not carrying one, especially if you then start thinking about buying a piezo gimmick like one in OP, which weighs more, is less practical and costs more.

        OP here...
Okay okay okay okay I'll carry a goddamn lighter! Jeez if I knew I'd catch so much shit I wouldn't've made the thread.

Can any of you jokers recommend a decent razor blade? I bought a hundred pack of Red Devil blades to last for a lifetime of backpacking but they rust really fast in this wet weather. Last time PrepHole I had to chew a piece of dyneema cord in half because the blade was rusted to hell. I don't carry a knife.

Why not carry a Victorinox Classic SD? It weighs 20 grams, takes the same room as a bic and it also provides you with a handle for the small knife. It also comes with scissors. More practical and safe than playing around with a bare razor blade.

You literally needed to. And if you’re really this into ultralight why in the holy fuck are you using a stove with a built in piezo starter?

Well, you're tarded. But you could always replace one of your carabiner's with pic related so you have a back up striker.
You'll still probably die of hypothermia some days. But at least the recovery team won't have to carry too much of your gear back to your family. Thanks for being ultralight

being able to start a fire is absolutely critical, always carry a backup.

        >extra weight

They must be 10-20 grams at the most. You're lying to yourself if you think you forgot a lighter to save weight.

I had one for my whisperlite and they are also a pain in the ass, requiring sometimes 10 or 15 clicks to light the priming cup. If this sounds like a fun time to you then go ahead

Or just carry a fucking mini Bic which you should be doing anyway

Yeah I'll probably carry a lighter instead. It just sucks that I'll also be carrying the weight of a dead igniter on my stove.

Yeah that sucks, might need to get a new stove that doesn't have an igniter. I recently started doing water enema's before I head out on a trip so I know that I am not carrying any unnecessary dead weight with me, a lot of people only think about the weight they are carrying on them and not the weight they are carrying in themselves.

You can light a stove with a ferro rod if you’re too autistic to just use a lighter.
Won’t break like a pizo or run out of fuel like a lighter, although I suppose it does wear out eventually

      >got lighter and oooh what's this a ferro rod in there lets try that it'll be fun!!!
      >strike ferro rod in cup full of alcohol
      >accidently the whole thing
      >burning alcohol everywhere in boat
      >ohshitohshit
      >lucky there's water everywhere

you don't carry a knife (again, those are very light and yet indispensable tools), and you don't have a lighter or ferro rod, what other basic items do you choose to lack?

That an overpriced one purpose item to light gas stove and nothing else.

I haven't seen any outists or bushcrafters manage to seal rope ends or light a cigarette with aanything but a lighter, versatility is king in the outs.
    Lighter also lights gas stoves.

    This thread is bait.

OP knew that he'd be asked why he doesn't just use a lighter instead.

He planned to respond that he doesn't carry a lighter or matches due to weight concerns.

He is now collecting the guaranteed replies.

He may not have been able to ignite his hypothetical stove, but he sure ignited the "ulralighters are retarded" debate (which is a true statement, and not a debate at all).

This is one of the first considerations I made when i decided to start going PrepHole. Come on man.
