He was sold on the black market by oligarch generals during the fall of the USSR, along with a squadron of MI-24s. Rumor has it he now belongs to some african warlord.

This story is from the Iraq war but you may find this interesting. An US soldier picked up some thermal signatures (by using the sights of a javeline missile launcher)of a squad of us soldiers who seemed to be unarmed in top of a dam in iraq while he was on outpost duty.He informed his platoon leader and the lieutenant also observed that through the thermal device. They tried to radio them but they didn't respond. When a squad was sent to check up on those soldiers there was simply no one on the dam. Meanwhile the soldier who observed those heat signatures from his outpost recalls that the heat signatures slowly disappeared as the searching party got close to the dam. While the searching party returned empty handed the lieutenant who lead that search party told OP about how that place seemed disturbed and sinister. After sometime op got informed that a squad of american soldiers died on that dam.

Quite alot of stories like this have been posted over the years but I believe most of them, it happened to me too. Used to see 'people' through the thermals all the time that just didn't exist. Sitting up on a hill looking through a valley or being up on a compound wall staring across empty fields and you'd get 1 or 2 human figures that would come into view, walk along for a bit then just disappear into the background. Not just like a blob of heat that the thermal picked up from a rock or some shit thats still hot from the day but 100% "Is this guy seriously just gonna walk up and try to plant an IED right on us?" type shit. Got 2 apaches that were working close to us to have a look once and they couldn't see it but we could. Turned on white light and nothing. Sent a patrol out and no sign of anything at all not even tracks. Happened maybe 3 or 4 times and it was the weirdest fricking thing I have ever experienced in my life. 100% without any doubt that was a living 'thing' walking around us, genuinely want to go back and try to see it again but frick that, interpreter used to joke it was jinn. Also on a patrol once and we were going between old abandoned compounds that no one had used for a few years before we got deployed there and me and 2 other guys with me could hear muffled voices coming from inside one of the buildings. Thought we were gonna get ambushed or we'd walked on top of someone setting an IED, checked every inch of the place and nothing, ass was puckered for a bit after that but honestly mostly forgot about that one.

Not Afghanistan but I was in Iraq 2018-2019 at the tail end of OIR. Around December right before every rain there would be a huge, singlw lighting bolt/thunder directly over BDSC and then downpour afterwards. I figured it was the installation/common stuff from the airport/JSOC that was nearby. Also maybe an ancient curse on the land.

Doing cycles of shitty sleep lets your brain fog take over and you start hearing and then seeing shit all the time due to lack of REM. I know goddamn well that the fan isn't playing Mexican polka, the shadows in the yard are figments of my imagination, and that my brother isn't a CIA handler spying on me. But my mind didn't.

One time I saw an Afghan rigged donkey pulled chariot. Another time I saw this ANA solider shadowboxing by himself out doors through an ISR feed. Uhhh....

Finding soviet UXO's like landmines and shit is really spoopy to experience.

OH! and the local taliban killed a politician with a juice box IED in my area. There was also persistent threat of our water supply having random bits poisoned that was always cause for alarm.

I've also had some fun second hand stories from NCO's that I have loved. I knew a guy who was in the 173d who said they air assaulted to a mountain village the russians nor the british had ever been to... much less the mullahs. The last people that came through was Alexander and they all spoke greek and were pagan non muslim. He said it was wild.

Im sure I have other memories floating around.

Nta, but if it existed it would probably be in the Nuristan province which was historically known as Kafiristan ("Land of the Infidels"). The region only became Muslim after the Emir of Kabul conquered the local polytheists in 1895.

i definitely believe that last one, there are documented pagan communities in pakistan and with how rural and isolated the area is there are no doubt more that academia just doesn't know about.
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalash_people

also related, there was a spanish scientist, jordi magraner, that went up into those communities and spent tons of time living with them looking for the barmanou, basically a bigfoot.

Reminds me of a dude I knew who went in really early in Afghanistan (2002 or something) and the village just thought they were the Russians coming back.

So, what was the response from villagers?

          Anonymous

I don’t think it was super dramatic, they were so isolated that they didn’t really care who owned the country, they just were confused about Americans instead of Russians showing up

Marriage between first cousins is super common in Afghanistan and the inbreeding is especially in the tribal regions off the charts. At night you can hear wailing throught the valleys because the villagers would force their tied or chained up moronic relatives to sleep outside.

You are probably right, that the land is cursed. Prolly all kinds of ancient Sumerian demons still lurking that part of the world thriving off the chaos and bloodshed. Perhaps perpetuating the evils of war and misery. Thats one of the few places in the world I would be convinced there are evil spirits still.

Think about it for a moment, all those lost souls of warriors from the times of the persian empire, Alexander the great and countless other time periods wondering in those barren lands trying to interact with the alive not knowing they are dead. That thought alone makes me fascinated about the history and mythology of that region.

Wasnt in Afghanistan but was doing a run of the mill FTX in the desert of New Mexico and saw a bunch of strange lights lining up in the sky. There were 4 that moved and then stppen in the pattern of a square. Then a fifth moved into the center. The just sat there, too high for a helicopter and planes dont hover. For 4-5 minutes we watched. We looked away for like 10 seconds and they were all gone.

Honestly a lot of wierd, unexplainable shit happened during my time in the service and whats crazy is how quickly stuff was brushed off by distracted chain of command to the point that it made some of us forget wtf we just saw.
Its VERY easy to look at some crazy shit happening and have it just not register in your brain sometimes or people pass it off as your brain playing tricks on you, especially in a military environment, sleep deprived, stressed etc.

Secondhand story from my cousin but basically
    >inna Afghanistan
    >overlook on some remote village thought to be harboring terrorists or something whatever
    >super bored
    >extremely late at night
    >move thermals around just looking
    >stop at backyard enclosure
    >is that dude fricking a donkey?
    >word quickly goes out
    >entire platoon now watching this dude just lay pipe on a burro
    >embedded AF combat controller (?) radios to a drone
    >drone zooms it's super high rez thermal on this dude
    >there are now something like 60 people watching this scene unfold including a bunch of drone guys (in Nevada?)
    >dude finishes and literally slaps the ass on the ass

I guess some people came real close to getting into trouble but it was a legend with these guys for a while. Closest I have to some spoopy story.

Saw these silhouette things on the walls of a lone hut and the ground next to it in the middle of bumfrick nowhere. Like those pictures of people in Hiroshima who got turned into shadows. The outlines were really crisp too, like someone had legit been standing there. Came back a couple days later and I swear the outlines had fricking moved. Like one of the shadows had its arms raised when before they were at its sides. We made fun of this one dude for a couple days because he poked one of the silhouettes on the hut wall and claimed he saw the thing turn towards him. When my TL came over to look he tried touching it and nothing happened.
My squad mentioned the whole thing in a report and went on with business as usual. Like a week later some guy in a suit came to our FOB by helicopter and talked to our PL for a bit and after that if anyone mentioned the weird-ass moving shadows he told them to shut the frick up. The dude who touched one got pulled in to talk to the suit man too and claims he signed an NDA.
A couple months later I found out they brought the engineer company out and leveled the place with explosives because it was hosting a major weapons cache or some shit. The hut looked way too small for that and was empty when we checked it but what the frick do I know?

    >Call comes on that an HVT hit is gearing up and they need EOD to do evidence collection/clearing stuff etc etc job stuff
    >Me and other guy on my team gets speedstered over to the pad
    >Really fast, usually we get like a mission briefing, outline of what's going on, read on if anything classified applies.
    >Nope just get on the blackhawk with a bunch of dude's I'd never worked with before (not like I knew everybody, but our unit had a working relationship with SF, FTF, and other guys in the area and these were not them).
    >Get off the blackhawks, night.
    >Go a few kilometers on foot, target is a qualat in the middle of nowhere in northeast Afghanistan
    >Hang back while door kicker dudes do their door kicker thing.
    >Go in afterwards to check out the rooms for munitions/explosives/booby traps
    >Dead guy on the ground in t-shirt and sweats. check him out for like five seconds for anything hazardous but obviously nothing
    >Not a lot inside. shitty mattress, a few duffel bags of clothes. M4 rifle in the corner, which was unusual but not super super weird since ANA used them and they filtered their way into insurgent hands. Beat to frick PEQ-15 on it, which was kind of weird.
    >Go through the bags for booby traps or hazards.
    >A few F1 grenades, a beat up Tokerov pistol
    >One bag had a 3 ring binder in it. Pages in english. Weird. Looked like a lot of printouts of excel documents or similar. A lot of what looked like NSN numbers. Tucked in the binder was a red cover US passport, which fyi is an Official government passport.
    >Took pics of everything with evidence camera like usual, everything got packed up by the dudes we were with
    >Back at FOB, dudes insist on taking our evidence camera, have to give it to them
    >return to EOD compound, commander tells us not to write up a mission report and not worry about it

Why this guy was in a lights out (abandoned?) qualat in the middle of nowhere, why/how people knew he was there, why shoot 1 dude that could easily be captured, why the extreme short notice, why to the all of it. I dunno. I know he had a US Gov passport, an M4 with a PEQ, and binders of something. Its a bigger drama I saw about 6 hours of with no followup.

it would be unusual for an insurgent to use an peq15 it would be even more unusual for one to have a US government passport in their possession and it would be really unusual for a group of american soldiers to hunt down a random american agent hiding alone in the desert (its not a real story)

Well I have one creepy story. Not Afghanistan but I will share anyways.
I've been doing a guard duty in a certain base in Poland. Our base was a former german/nazi base used by some german cavalry/artillery unit.
Obiously they used horses and had stables with staff that attended the horses.
In 1945 entire Base an city was demolished and population slaughtered and raped by the soviets, stables were turned into garages and shiet after the war.

After doing a quick patrol around the garages I went back to my barracks, locked the doors from the entire floor, locked my room and finally went to sleep.(No one was on my floor except me)
And oh boy I had a very fricking weird dream.

It was day and I was walking around the garages, and I spotted and old grandma walking towards the garage,at first glance I though she was
a cleaning lady, sometimes they pass by garages but never go inside of them.Something was wrong out of nowhere I felt a wave of dread and terror but I pushed on and followed her into a garage.
She looked wrong like a corpse taken out from the noose or water or maybe covered in ash ?,her skin was white, lips purple and her nails were pretty long and sharp. She was walking from wall to wall wailing and crying. It looked like she was lost and disoriented.I had a realisation "she's dead i need to tell her" So I did then she turned around grabbed my elbow.
And It was so fricking painful she was digging her nails into the inner side of my elbow.
Then she looked at me and dissapeared into thin air.

I woke up and forgot about decided to eat the burger and after guard duty was over I put on my civilian clothes and fricked off home.
On my way home my elbow started to hurt me as frick,I looked at it and my fricking hoodie was ripped in that place like something fricking ripped it apart with claws.

Frick you ghost b***h for destroying my hoodie.
picrel shitty photo of my hoodie I took while walking.
I guess she was a cleaning lady but from 1945.

I used to wake up with all sorts of unexplained damage to myself and my surroundings. Always thought it was weird because I could remember going to bed but things would be fricking overturned and I'd have bruises in the morning. Figured it was either ghosts or Black folk. Turns out I sleep walk.
