Packing up into storage parents things

However I might keep the things in the boxes not just for a move but for general storage so retrieval shoudl be easy.

Does anyone know what container / storage boxes I should use?

Should i go plastic or just keep with cardboard?

Cardboard fricking sucks, the tape you close it with inevitably comes off the cardboard.
Get the black ones with the yellow lids at Lowes.
I strongly advise against clear plastic ones if they're going to be in any sunlight; I've had about a dozen that were stored in a shed with one window crack to pieces.

    Best tote at best price:

Get the greenmade tough box plastic totes from Costco or Tractor Supply, TSC also has the 1/2 sized ones.

Don't get the lookalikes at other places.

For the awesome, get one large dolly from Harbor Freight and stack 4 totes on it.

i just bought a bunch of those from home depot and i think they might have been 8$ a pop for the 27 gallon ones.

of note, be sure to look at the boxes before you buy them. there are 2 separate batches and on one the bottom is bowed out and won't sit flat. look for crazing and make sure the lid fits right. but they're great boxes, frick cardboard.

The greenmade tough boxes are a little more, but they are made in the US and have better quality control. The others look very similar.

i'll be honest with you, i wouldn't be surprised if they all come from the same place, just with different lid designs. the internals look the same. but i can't say for sure, i only own the home depot ones.

regardless, great tubs. i've stacked em 6 high full of shit. they seal pretty tightly, im sure enough to keep bugs out. so long as you actually check them in person and make sure the lids are right and they haven't been dented by some moron wagie, i'd fully recommend.

    >paying for cardboard boxes

LOL what a joke. just go to mcdonalds or burger king and take them out of the recycle dumpster. or go to a grocery store ask if they have extra boxes they want to get rid of.

never pay for cardboard boxes. they are plenty behind most every retail store or restaurant

        >how to shake the boxes off before putting them in your car

usually the roaches live under the dumpsters in the dark moist areas. do you even know anything stupid?

Get yourself some euroboxes, you won’t regret it. They’re inexpensive, last a lifetime, always stack/fit together and there are open walled ones for clothes and stuff

and what do you do with them when you are done moving or storing? sure they stack but take up alot of room themselves to store them. cardboard boxes can be flattened down and also just tossed into a recycling dumpster for disposal. no storage no fuss.

OP said general storage so I assumed some permanent storage that can be moved.

        > and what do you do with them when you are done moving or storing?
I am never ‘done storing’, I use these for stuff I use only in some seasons (motorcycle clothes, winter clothes, ski boots, etc) or only a few times a year (car polish, kite, paint). Stack the boxes all in the basement and retrieve the right box when I need one. They’re an alternative to a big messy cabinet or attic with everything in cardboard boxes.

If it was just for moving, use cardboard moving boxes ofc but they are single-use to me

As opposed to a cardboard moving box? Anyway lids are like $2 but you can also put a spare shallow box upside down

That would be great but shallow box upsidedown as a cover does not engage with the main box and would slide off. Not waterresustant. I have not seen lids for sale that properly fit euroboxes and provide protecion from burst pipes.

euroboxes are great. i use a label printer to list the contents of each box on the outside. i have the majority of my stuff in them, they are great. main reason i got them was to prevent all the shit i accumulated over the years to be caked in dust because i use them maybe once a year. lid on top and now nothing is dusty anymore.

i just moved with home depot medium boxes. the handle cutouts are fricking worthless because the cardboard is thin and the handles immediately tear if you try to use them.
