Solar panels are the easiest to do yourself with the most reliable output. If you have access to water and a height difference, you can try micro-Hydro. Hydro can be very reliable, but its a lot harder for a DIYer to do. And expensive. You should know some plumbing fundamentals. I'd suggest watching Kris Harbour on youtube on how he does Hydro.
Wind is also easier than hydro, but has the worst returns of all, being very unpredictable. Of course Hydro can be too if you are in a dry climate.
Solar + batteries to have power overnight is the cheapest, most feasible way to go off grid at the moment.
In addition, nuclear energy is also an option. What you could do is build a large dome over a lake, tie two rods of Uranium together, throw them in the lake and the guide the steam into a turbine.
Nuclear may come with unforeseen consequences and regulatory issues however. If you are in a third world country, it could be quite feasible.

Look the bottom line is no one is going to tell you how to make a custom carburetor to make your old diesel engine run 500 miles on the gallon, no one is going to tell you how to utilize overunity in water or how to make a water hydrogen engine. No one is going to tell you how to make Dr. Diesel's peanut oil engine, make bio diesel nor is anyone going to risk their life telling you how to make an orgone accumulator. Seek and you shall find invest your own intellectual capacity to self providence TL:DR if you can't do that then solar panels and battery is the most you can do, the next step would be biodiesel since it has a relatively low intelligence hurdle.

saw a dude recently that bought like 4 of the many batteries that a tesla has from the scrapyard, and plugged the solar to those batteries, he built an UI for it with a raspberri pi iirc. Sounded cool.

sure if you're in the middle of nature, but now that you mention it, would it be realistic to chug a fukken mini-turbine or make whatever system with merely your regualr city tap water intake? As in your main entrance of tap water into your house.
It would generate very little power. You need hihh pressure to generate power with hydro,best obtained through gravity and the mass of the water itself.
Saw a dude make a micro hydro turbine for his roof and gutters. It generated 2 watts at peak during storms. It took weeks to charge a phone a couple % on it.
actually the roof-water approach doesn't look so bad, all you need is good rain, the roof if your house is like 2 stories or taller would reach good pressure, you just need some kind of buffer or something

That Kris Harbour dude has a system that generates about 500 watts peak. That is with a pipe over 200m long holding 2500 liters of water and coming out at 10 bar.
With 500 watt you can just about power a laptop. Distance+volume+height generates the pressure. You would need a skyscraper with a few zeppelins hanging off it to get enough surface area and height to get gutter water to generate similar energy.

it's not about how far the water falls its about how much water there is. a natural spring with a little paddle connected to it will make far more than a bunch of gutter generators on a skyscraper

solar panels are waste but that's not the only way to harness solar energy.
ocean currents will be good if anyone builds out the infrastructure.
geothermal is good in some locations.

I have a 13.3 kWh battery and a 7.7 kw solar array, so far I've been entirely self-sufficient in terms of electrical usage but I'm sure it would be a lot higher if I didn't have a gas water heater or fireplace. IMO it's useless to have solar without a battery to store your energy.
In the coming years I do plan on getting a solar water heater and maybe rig up my own wood rocket furnace for heating.
Totally depends on YOUR use case and when that is the case if you want worthwhile help best explain it.
