What if the U.S. Military launched an Operation to take control of the zone? The goal being to commercialize the zone take control of the labs and give the zone law and order.
Let's say around 2017, 2018.
>Every American service member is in full MOPP.
>Every service member, Aircraft and vehicle is equipped with with Svarogs or whatever equivalent the U.S. can come up with.
>All vehicles and Aircraft are equipped with "emission protection systems".
>Numerous mobile bunkers prepared to be dropped into the zone and all known Emission proof shelters marked on maps.
>ROE is Neutrality with Dolg, Svoboda, Loners, Ecologists, Ukrainian Military, hired mercs.
>Shoot on sight Monolith, Bandits, renegades, Uncooperative mercs.
>Gulf war tier number of personnel.
With these Preparations in place could the U.S. Military bring Law and Order to the zone?
get out of here burger
The Zone is really small. The Ukrainian and Russian armies being so shit in the 90s/2000s is half the reason the plot of those games happens at all.
you'd probably have to fight Russia first which sounds like a slog, especially with them having access to artifacts.
pretty sure the Gauss rifle can penetrate Abrams armor.
into the radius is basically a walking sim with toothbrushes and wd40 man, don't play it for the worldbuilding.
it stays ominous by not answering questions by having no answers.
it's a cheap way to write but it's okay.
my summer gun collection
It'd be an absolute roll since the zone is sparsely populated and what anomalies exist can be quickly detected and marked. Kind of a boring question really. What'd be a more interesting scenario would be America without detectors or any special anomaly protection systems and no prior knowledge of the area beyond pre-meltdown maps
What if we sent in a single MEU, slightly changed up ROE but all the same equipment as previously mentioned, Svoboda is to be added to the shot on sight list because the U.S. would eventually have to pick a side in the conflict in order to establish Law and Order.
>the zone from the vidya
Idk but it would probably some gay shit
>the zone from Tarkovsky/Roadside picnic?
lol hoo boy, buckle up buttercup
>>the zone from Tarkovsky/Roadside picnic?
>be me
>touch a pretty spider web
>die of heart attack
Many such cases.
>observes something in the zone
>you are now forever fricked up and not allowed to leave
yeah
They tried that in Call of Pripyat, it didn't go so well.
That was one Spetsnaz platoon not the United States Military.
Plus the U.S. could use hindsight and Intel from Operation fairway to avoid the same mistakes.
Lore wise thats what the Mercenaries were originally supposed to be, IIRC there were even models for American special forces units made before they became Mercs. Either way this gets a little complicated because even from 2006-2011 when the Zone first appeared, something like that would absolutely draw immediate UN attention. From buses full of tourists just mysteriously disappearing to the original and subsequent emissions, then add in artifacts and reports of mutants, there would be no way in hell a country like Ukraine could ever possibly keep that shit locked up just from satellites alone. The whole area would be lit up like a Christmas tree. Unfortunately outside of that one book in Afghanistan that while cool IIRC isn’t even canon, there’s practically nothing detailing what the world outside of the Zone is actually like. Regardless the closest thing to what you’re saying would be the Mercs.
The only remotely American thing outside of weapons/ammo in the canon Zone was that one Predator(?) drone that was crashed in Yanov.
What zone? The Canal zone in Panama?
haha very funny.
As long as they aren't digging trenches in the red forest they're fine
Ukraine and Russia both veto the idea. Russia waves around nukes to drive the point home if the US is too moronic to stop after first warning.
Unrelated but there was a STALKER Novel pushed out that had a similar thing going on, where a secondary Zone pops up in the middle of Afganistan, and there's now a Battalion of Marines trapped in there.
Book is considered shit but the concept art is pretty cool, and apparently the depiction of the Marines is sufficiently spergy to make it "accurate".
Marines basically just kick ass and win in the zone, and also frick afghan b***hes and take them as their wives n' shit.
>Marines basically just kick ass and win in the zone, and also frick afghan b***hes and take them as their wives n' shit.
I’m 100% convinced that failure to encourage this is why Afghanistan was never properly civilized. EVERY fighting age male in the region would be killed if they were a threat to our families and cum dumps
into the radius kindof explored on the idea that the un would basically force russia out of control of the zone and have nato take control of it,
unfortunately there is not alot of world building and a key part is that nobody can enter and nobody can leave, so you are alone exploring and the only other explorers are other people who were inside the zone when the event happened but I think this was just written this way to explain that you will never find any other humans to interact with.
That sounds boring as frick.
Doesn't have to be, given that's literally the plot of Gothic.
>The new STALKERs are going to blow up an immense amount of vodka to see if they can disrupt the Zone's containment field
>Duty hates this and is trying to secure as much vodka as possible before it becomes scarce
>Freedom is smoking weed in a swamp
