The spear is the king of melee. A good argument can be made for polearms as well.
Although. A good bow I think is essential. It's quiet. Decent range. Modern broad heads will carve right through soft body armor. You can hunt or fish with it. If I was a poorgay I would buy a good bow, compound or traditional, doesn't matter. They're super useful.
Swords are really just EDC spears but yes everyone should have and know how to use a bow with broadheads.
