Those who signed up because they thought they were going to find their calling but instead saw what being in the military REALLY about, and psychopathic cowards who get off on killing/hurting others and want a license to kill. There might be a grey area in there but generally speaking this has been my personal experience among combat arms MOS.
It's for killing people in their sleep with a suppressed weapon. With point shooting in bedrooms while you are "getting the drop on unprepared targets" you short stock a lot so the center of aim of your torso is directly on their torso while they are sleeping.
There's this whole technique of sweeping so you can get multiple beds in a row as they normally sleep grouped up.
yeah i'd rather do anything else than give gbrs money but the point of the mount is move the weight back, have it mounted on the receiver instead of handguard where it can lose zero and clear your hand.
Iirc the justification is that it makes sure your optic and laser remain zeroed, because your handguard could slip somehow and then your laser is off zero from your optic.
But if it's that important, why not just mount your peq or whatever on the receiver or whatever with your optic? Or just tighten your handguard properly.
