Eotech is shit, I'm an armorer and have seen countless eotechs fail under normal use scenarios including delamination, collimator failures, electronics failures, and anything in between. You know what I've only seen fail once? An aimpoint, and the optic was likely 12 years old at the point of failure.

      Anonymous

Same. Only aimpoints I ever see dead-lined have been basically smushed or slammed into something hard enough to break the battery compartment end caps or housing. Those things are tanks. Same with the ACOG's, literally had one that got run over on asphalt by an LMTV after the rifle was left leaning against a tire and wasn't even damaged other than the finish and a little gouging. No impairment of functions.

they're pretty good. Battery life doesn't matter, see all the gays who use LPVOs whose battery life on a usable setting is a few days.
1 MOA circle dot, extremely clear glass, no tint, no blur or slight magnification, lots of brightness settings for both day and night so each step up/down isn't too "coarse". Works great with magnifiers and at range because the 1 MOA dot is 1 MOA at 100, 2 MOA at 200, 3 at 300 etc, instead of a 2 MOA red dot being 2 MOA at 100, 4 at 200, etc.
Gets plenty bright for fighting on the surface of the sun or fighting under nods. Passes same MIL-STD-810C durability test for milspec. Proven to be actually, truly 0 MOA in parallax as opposed to 4.5 MOA of a T2 and 11 MOA of an MRO.
All in all - pretty good, it's just a trade off from a T2.

        Anonymous

        >11 MOA
Is that standard for that tier of optic? Seems pretty high.

          Anonymous

the mro has some parallax issues that are worse on paper due to how wide the lens is. in reality you're never going to be looking at the dot ALLLL the way on the edge of the lens. its a great optic for the price (350 bucks used on ebay) and has the best light transmission for its price range.

            Anonymous

The price seemed pretty decent for something that would seem pretty viable for passive aiming but the Hop review put me off of it for the longest time. I do keep hearing good things from around /k/ and other places though so I might just pick one up used and go for it.

This price is good for the quality you get (less than holosun). You will have a lot of fun with your commercial grade budget optic that will allow for range trips and light use.

Just like the g36? Much bendy, yet much action. Remember: Government + lowest corrupt bidder = your gear. They let Americans fight knowing full well their optics had a zero shift.

Right, that's why they sued Eotech and forced them to fix it when the problems were discovered.

                >court finds that HK build the gun exactly to government specification, the POI shift is a direct consequence of the design of the gun based on the specification of the government.

Its a shit design, the UMP is plagued by the same issue, because all these plastic fantastic guns have polymer at parts that get warm. The good thing is none of that is HKs fault. The government wanted it this way.

I'm not a Chink shill, but you shouldn't have bought that. It's the one Eotech optic that's proven to be bad. Breaks with use and cost them millions in law suits and legal fees. A nice Vortex optic is better than that. Don't buy Holosun, don't trust Holosun true but Primary Arms makes the Micro Prism which is bomb proof and Vortex makes top line red dots with a lot of testing and batch inspections.

          Anonymous

anything you Black folk say is "bomb proof" or reddit's favorite "gtg" (exclusively used by people who shoot 300 rounds a year) is a giant, screaming red flag

How many manufacturers are making actual holographic sights beyond eotech and chinkshit? Reflex sights with ring reticles are not holograms.

It seems like in all of these threads the fact that the optic is holographic is ignored. No shit aimpoints are simpler and in turn are more robust and have better battery life. Aimpoints aren't holo sights and are irrelevant for someone who is in the market for a holo sight. That's like shopping for a screwdriver and some homosexual won't shut up about how great his hammer is.

          only eotech
the chinese don't make a true holographic sight

Is the UH-1 actually a hologram?
But no, chinks don't make holograms because holography is expensive and technically involved. There's no way to make a cheap hologram because it's a huge optical setup and uses bespoke materials.

I indicated that I might repurchase only when it was confirmed that the issue was fixed. I guess it has not. I'll stick with Aimpoint and Vortex.

Oh and if you think $250 is a large number you ARE poor, that's an unfortunate but true reality pal. Come back to me when you can drop 2k without thinking about being evicted now that the COVID moratorium is over.

yeah but that's pretty simple to explain and fix, the JPC was designed to minimize weight and maximize heat dissipation / airflow.
There are $250 carriers like the OCPC that are extremely comfortable and very good at handling weight, the JPC is just an older design made to be super light.

I guess I'll just go off on this tangent (I haven't posted ITT previously).
One there's a point to be made that the Praeto principle applies to gear (First of all, optics is an exception to this). In that simply having functioning X gets you the majority of benefits compared even to having the gucci version of X. Although this doesn't justify sour grapes mentality over better gear. However, even if you're not a poorgay, any event where such gear would be warranted you will also need to have general prepper stuff as well. For everyone you really need to weight weapons and related kit against general prepper materials like food, water, heat, backup electricity, etc.

For poorgays, once you have a decent HD long gun and a CC make a basic kit with a surplus FLC "flick" (they're $10 on ebay) and cheap UCP pouches. Then frick all the other cool guy shit until you have 3 months of general prepper shit. If you have all that and still have money to blow, then go for all the armor, NVGs, optics to your hearts content.

Also poorgays. If you're gonna cheap out on the optic, make sure you're proficient with irons and don't be afraid to just stick with irons until you can afford a good optic.

Most of these guys are not buying "functioning X" they are buying the cheapest thing they can that ISNT on Aliexpress. Functioning "X" in the instance of an optic would be a $350 Eotech 512, $400 Aimpoint PRO, $400 Aimpoint duty or just some damn iron sights while they saved money

Also another point I'd like to make is NO ONE KNOWS exactly what will happen in the US at large, much less your geographic area or yourself personally. A full blown civilian war may happen, but you may never experience any violence more extreme than common crime today. So in general prepare for the most likely stuff before getting into edge case shit.

              >pareto principle
              filtered, thanks.

I'm sure holosun is fine but I can't bring myself to buy chinkshit because they lie about everything electronic. A battery life of "1 year" will probably work for half of that, or worse. Ip65 to them means they'll hot glue the housing seams and add a spray on conformal coating to the boards. They cheap out on semiconductor materials like germanium so they don't work well in a wide range of temperatures. Glass clarity from China is just garbo, though for something like a red dot or holo it's not that important. My main gripe with Chinese anything is their primary concern is and always will be how it looks on paper, and will tirelessly cheap out in every way they can while maintaining on paper performance without thought to how things perform in situ. Tl;Dr you're not wrong but chink shit has never ever failed to disappoint me and I'll never give them money if I can help it

I think the Russian 1P87 is a holo. It's like 1st gen EOTech technology but less clear and more fragile, but I think it is a real holographic.

Because at this point prism scopes are infinitely better and durable. I've heard one or two morons try to cope about this fact not being true but it's because they need to justify their dumb purchase of a $700 holographic meme sight years out of date coupled with a $700 magnifier for plinking 100yds with.
We're now at a point where prism 1x scopes can now be magnified so there's literally no reason to use anything else but maybe a scope for a DMR

yes. As a general rule, all of the $300+ holosun red dots are quite good and extremely reliable. Their older/cheaper stuff has bad light transmission and bad tint. For example:
          >good
          510c
          AEMS
          500 series X2
          >bad (range use only)
          400 series rifle dots
          503c
          anything pre 2017

so long as you stick to the $300 rule youll enjoy holosun

            Anonymous

Holosun's pistol dots are pretty good, but their rifle dots are questionable. The included mounts are garbage, but that's true of pretty much any of the Chinesium optics. I have a 510C on an AR-9 that's been fine so far.

I think the SIG Romeo 5 is probably the best poorgay red dot on the market. I've got a couple of them on ADM mounts and they've been totally solid despite them being on beater rifles that get thrown around.

I think anyone spending $300+ on a red dot should be buying an Aimpoint PRO or Duty RDS and avoiding Chinese stuff entirely.

Just because something exists doesn't mean it's useful. In this case we're not even talking about LED or other electronically illuminated reticles, we're talking tritium. Tritium is not bright enough for you to see it if you can still see the target. Simple as.

Since that's too high a bar, next time you're at a gunstore check out a pistol with tritium sights. Do note how you literally can't see any glow from them. Even on a cloudy day tritium isn't bright enough.

Define dusk. Because when it's dusk here, you can indeed see tritium, but you're not going to see a target beyond red dot range. Or, it's still plenty bright enough you are picking up light from your fiber.
