This week's topic:
The Japanese Self-Defense Forces, their defense strategy and rearmament process.
>If the Japanese Army was a tradesman, and you ask him to hammer in a nail, you might come back to see him hammering it in with a rock instead of a hammer because that's how his great-great-grandfather did it.
>But when it becomes clear that's no longer going to work because everyone else is using hammers, then you might come back a week later and he designed a robot to hammer in the nail for him.
yea i'm thinkin perun is based
Perun is boring and adds nothing to the conversation. There are far better and more informed channels out there, like Chieftain or that Austrian colonel and there are channels out there whose jokes arent fricking cringe, like Lazerpig. Perun is also a moralgay.
Seethe gwailo. America is going to be the Japan of WW3. The expert martial culture which gets its nose rubbed in the dirt by a sleepy mercantile power famous for copying other nations' work.
>actively help build up the imperial navy and serve with them through WW1 with nothing but praise for them
>have this opinion two decades later simply because the Anglo-Japanese alliance was cancelled
What manner of absolutely chauvinistic imperial delusion were the brits huffing?
>there are channels out there whose jokes arent fricking cringe, like Lazerpig.
too long didn't read.
>Chieftain or that Austrian colonel and there are channels out there whose jokes arent fricking cringe, like Lazerpig.
Ah yes, the guy who had to make up shit about the T-14 for his redditor fanbase.
>there are channels out there whose jokes aren't fricking cringe
>Lazerpig
Pick one.
>Lazerpig
>jokes aren't cringe
Lol, lmao even.
>What manner of absolutely chauvinistic imperial delusion were the brits huffing?
That attitude might have already existed before the 30s. Imo that was part of the reason why the more militaristic and co-prosperity factions had such an easy time taking influence in japan.
Both after the Russo-Japanese war and WW1 the other great powers treated them more like a backwater nation than an equal too.
Thats not reason enough, not like it was that different post-WW2 in europe.
And sure over here there is still some animosity but that's mostly harmless. Maybe poland seething a bit about the krauts or someone going about the holocaust to deflect. Most conflict is about current rivalries.
You have to understand the bongs(and frogs) in this period were extremely butthurt about losing their empire and expressed their rage as extreme butthurt regarding other countries.
It was more fear they wouldn't be able to pursue their own foreign policy and would become subjects of the American sphere of influence. Which was half true, but not really. American interests extended so far as keeping trade flowing and curbing the spread of communism. An interest shared at the very least by the British which guided their (albeit reluctant) voluntary process of decolonisation in Africa, as independent states within the western sphere influence were preferable to rebellious subject states supported by the Eastern bloc. Personifying countries and attaching motivations like asshurt or rage rarely translate into reality.
I don't think that was the main issue, sure they had their problems but 1920s UK and France at least appeared still pretty dominant and successful and that only changed post WW2.
Ultimately no one tewated the Japanese as another great power and as a result they had the that it was impossible to be equals to them. As a consequence some had the opinion that they had to be stronger than them or they would end up like qing china.
Yeah, proportions are why I like the F-2 more too.
I don't know, if that's truly it. Over the course of the centuries almost every european nation treated the other horribly at one point or another and despite usually being quite unapologetic about it it was never too big of a problem.
>I don't know, if that's truly it
I think I was being too hyperbolic about it too. I still think it's a contributing factor, but dunno how major it is.
I guess WW1 and 2 were the big events that made Europe realise that maybe it's about time to chill out and coexist and Germany fully taking all responsibility for the latter certainly helped.
If you want to be cynical you can look at the prison-industrial concept every state runs on and say peacetime is basically a fake concept perpetuated by the media. International war has been replaced by less obvious aggression, and dividing crime and war statistics is just a ruse to legitimise the violence of the state. But If there is one difference between now and then, it's that there are never any major famines anymore. In the thirties everyone was just one early/late rainfall/bad harvest away from death, and that doesn't make one kinder.
>there are channels out there whose jokes arent fricking cringe, like Lazerpig.
nafobros.......
>arent fricking cringe
>Lazerpig
I'd post his official NAFO merch flag but jan-jans will just delete it.
https://nafo-ofan.org/products/lazerpig-trans-pride-flag
what the frick is wrong with these people
disturbing how these fat degenerates ride the coattails of honest Fascists
>nafo nafo nafo nafo nafo nafo nafo nafo nafo nafo nafo nafo
You have to go back.
You grew up watching minecraft youtubers
anon gets it
excellently crafted bait, my good sir.
i don't know why i love how the f-2 looks while am pretty unimpressed with the f-16
i think it's the three piece canopy
am i insane
The F-2 is slightly larger than the F-16, it might be a proportion thing
I know it is for me, love this big homie like you wouldn't believe
look how happy he is
>nips and asiatics still hate each other
Why are asians so vindictive? Europeans slaughtered each other for millennia and you don't see anything approaching this level of animosity from them, outside of Russia's opportunistic imperial ambitions.
Many of their leaders and elders were alive when the Japanese was raping their way into asia, so it's not really surprising.
Europeans stopped killing each other because America said so. Its easy to let "bygones be bygones" when everyone answers to the same cop. Also, Japan never owned up for being the terror of Asia.
Damn
>Also, Japan never owned up for being the terror of Asia.
That would be the Mongols.
>Also, Japan never owned up for being the terror of Asia.
You mean besides the BILLIONS of dollars in reparations they paid and the official apologies they've offered over the years?
Do you really think Europe wouldn't have started another dozen wars if they felt like it, regardless of big brother America? People were poor and just fricking tired of dying and killing their neighbours. War was much worse and also affected the homefront with things like bombing raids. Peace and working together was the smart thing to do and people wanted that so that's what they did. Doesn't mean there weren't hard feelings or old hatreds under the surface. But they reigned in their chimpout instincts and eventually shit got better.
Europe had a greater variety of powers and a long history of shifting alliances and allegiances. It's easier to trust somebody you've fought against when you've fought alongside them just as much.
I would like to believe that a big part for why Europeans can more or less coexist now is the fact that Germany owned up to having done some pretty fricked up shit and reintegrating into the global community over the course of the Cold War
Pay attention in history class FFS.
There's this whole process of grieving properly. If you're hurt by someone else, they need to face justice, apologize what they did to you, and you need to find it in you to forgive them.
Germans and their neighbors did this whole process as properly as they should, and it was so good, that there were combatants on both sides that forgave each others, and that has trickled down so that grandchildren of former enemies see no reason to hate each other.
This didn't happen between Japan and everybody else in Asia.
In fact, all the Imperial Japanese that should have been hanged as monsters, got away without any punishment, and
And Japan has official stance that they did nothing bad, and everybody else is a liar.
Is that why they officially apologized several times as well as paid billions in war reparations?
Obviously won't stop bugmen from pretending Japan is still actively harming them despite the fact they weren't even alive during imperial Japanese occupation and the japs that were occupying your countries have long been dead anyway.
It's just poors wanting free gibs because they've convinced themselves they're somehow "owed" it.
tbh a lot of Koreans and Taiwanese think Japan is based theses days because they hate the commies more. They hate the WWII atrocities but they hate the boomers still b***hing about it even more. China, Vietnam, and NK are the only places that still super hate Japan, and that's more the position of the governments than the people that live there (apart from NK, obviously).
The problem is that people who did all the horrible shit like all of unit 731 were never brought to justice. And the apologies Japan has given have only been written or said sorries, not proper apologies that are in Asia on their knees, head on ground.
Compare that all to what Germany did. And still does. They earned their redemption. Japan has only done the sightshow for US. "Oh but we apologized, like you Americans told us to. We're clear how, right?"
No matter how much japan paid or how sincere their apology is, as long as japan still exists it will NEVER be enough for the people who are still looking for japan to apologize "properly".
So honestly frick off at this point
Yes?
That's the point I'm making. They didn't do it like Germans did, and now their former enemies are still their enemies, unlike Germany.
Why is this getting under your skin?
Bullshit, both Germany and Japan quickly had their reparation debts wiped clean by the US, and both Germany and japan have since gone and paid some amounts to certain countries over the years, but by and large japan has paid more, and gave up a significant chunk of territory that they owned from DECADES prior that had nothing to do with WWII but they had to give them up anyway which cost billions since japan had invested infrastructure in these places that they were forced to abandon.
By all accounts Japan has paid more in WWII reparations than Germany in terms of value given to those affected.
China is the region's entire enemy because it's outright annexing territory and patrolling other countries airspace. Shit that happened 80 years ago is simply their excuse for doing so. Frick off chinksect, go suck Xi the Pooh dicklet.
The last century or so? China continuously having rebellions, famines, and a weak government. Causing refugees to swarm neighboring countries, which piss them the frick off. And whatever little esteem other small asian countries had for china to crumble away.
Japan modernizing within a couple generations and going on an imperialism spree into Formosa, the Koreas, and inevitably into China.
Thats only between the three EA n1ggers though. No one in SEA (incl chinks here) and Taiwan hold grudges for what happened 80 years ago. And we lost millions here.
Cool, new video to watch at 1,5x speed
Kek, i love how the CIA and FSB shills wont touch this thread because it has nothing to do with the war.
Shows how inorganic the average user of this board has become.
Damn homie. This some cope.
Really it doesn't have much to do with weapons, but I understand not wanting to compete with troony posting on /misc/
>nobody
>not one single soul
>Preditor:muh troons
You should go back or on /misc/ and stay there.
There's the cope.
You have to go back.
Real talk, is there anyone on this board who doesnt check peruns channel for new vids multiple times a day?
No, because he always uploads on weekends. He's very consistent on that front.
No of course not, I'm not a fool.
Like
said, he has an upload schedule, besides I still have a sub from the dominions days.
Just hit the bell icon anon
Anons why is the JSDF so kino?
Who knows?
Crazy that it's a 5 engined plane.
If you want 280 m takeoff distance in water with a plane that big, you need some tricks
probably because of having some really aesthetically pleasing military fiction in the past few years
even the leftist animators like oshii were guilty of war otakuism
>SPAAG >:(
>SPAAG, Japan :O
Robust domestic arms production, rich military heritage, phenomenal tech sector with no shortage of innovation, low corruption, high morale, cultural consensus, large numbers of troops; it has pretty much everything except funding and some bureaucratic roadblocks, which are both changing a lot in the near future. That and ROK hates them.
I just love wheeled vehicles with big guns, and japan fills that niche for me.
They planning to go even lighter
That was "planned" a decade ago and I've seen nothing public about it since, and it gets no mention in the 2023 wish list they published for the next 5 years.
You clearly don't know how military programs work. For example the new wheeled IFV shown last year began development at the same time as the Type 16 which date back to 2003.
You are just looking in the wrong direction. One of the primary points of the LCV is the in-hub motors to reduce the weight. Obviously they can't develop the entire vehicle until they finish developing key sub-systems. They are obviously still developing it since this was posted in 2020.
https://web.archive.org/web/20210323080057/https://www.mod.go.jp/atla/rikusouken/gsrc_opentech2020/vehicles/LCV.html
Also the 5 year buildup doesn't cover every project they plan to do and is just an outline that is given more detail with every FY budget and supplements.
anon, did you forget South Africa existed?
furthermore
holy frick I forgot to post the image I need to kill myself
one-off prototypes and sub-100mm main guns need not apply
Also, they're vintage as frick in comparison to the Type 16 MCV.
anon neither of these are prototypes, SA build 200+ rooikats and nearly 2000 ratels were built, are you moronic?
yes, and the Rooikat has a 76mm gun and the Ratel has a 90mm gun.
As I said
> one-off prototypes and sub-100mm main guns need not apply
Both vehicles had larger guns done as one-off prototypes, but never actually fielded.
I'm a big fan of Gerlad Bull. I mean, just look at this fricking thing.
>YAMETE KUDASA-ACK!
Japan is a joke compared to china
Thankfully japan isn't really trying to take over china. All japan really needs is the ability to make an attempt to take the Japanese islands far too costly to be worthwhile.
You don't have to beat china, you just have to convince them not to invade you.
Even if that would be true, Japan still has allies to back them up. Compared to china which has Norks and ... Russia?
Tbh I have a strong ROKA bias myself.
Japan makes the strongest tanks and planes!
GATE was an actually decent /k/ anime. Frick the spergs.
Yeah, but e-girls so moral gays gonna moral gay.
Seriously is it just that anime/manga leans left or does /k/ type stuff not do well in Japan? Golgo, Girls Und Panzer, GATE, Jin-Roh, All You Need is Kill, and some WWII stuff are the only things along those lines I know of from Japan. Is war stuff just not popular there for some reason? I know Korea and China love that shit.
Japan has WWII anime?
Well there is barefoot gen and ayako
(I am not sharing that gif)
You lads should check out the wienerpit if you are an aviation guy. Such good early 90s seinen shit with great characters, plots, and animation.
Based taste.
I really wish there was more stuff like it.
Area 88 (the classic ovas) are good as well but goofy if you pay too much attention or take it too seriously.
Best watched with some ice cold Hamm's
The anime was shit. Manga is way better
No, it was not. The author was a moron and there are other series that does the concept better.
>The author was a moron and there are other series that does the concept better.
Like what?
Your tears are delicious.
are there more /k/ anime? feels like i scraped the bottom of the barrel by now
see zipang
I'd say Drifters, but it dies after one season and the mangaka effecrively abandoned it
It had a good hook but devolved into routine haremshit and extreme JSDF wank. Dropped it after the onsen scene.
Zipang was better
I hate the art style and plot.
It’s just some lame attempt to recruit NEETs by the JSDF.
GATE was a missed opportunity to show an interesting convergence of a fantasy world intersecting with the modern world, more than just guns shoot swords but how the modern world could uplift and change the fantasy one
Instead its nothing but NEET wank with e-girl magic girls.
>are you a fat POS NEET?
>well join the JSDF and you too can frick all the "1000 year old children" you want
Also I recall a dogshit story thread of Russia, China and the USA decide to send their beer league special forces to try to capture the magic e-girls and they all fail miserably
Not to mention the author is some ultra-nationalist and has the worst takes possible on Japanese geopolitics, if I recall in his "story" Japan pretty much just pisses of the entire world, tells the USA to frick off, breaks international law, and gets away with it cause Japan is great.
In his defense some of the best and most schizo shit I've ever read comes from Jap ultranationalists.
>Also I recall a dogshit story thread of Russia, China and the USA decide to send their beer league special forces to try to capture the magic e-girls and they all fail miserably
For every successful special forces operation of the type that is worthy of an action movie, there are three that fail spectacularly.
>This week's topic: The Japanese Self-Defense Forces
*ding* *ding*
*bong* *bong*
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo
I laughed.
why am i hearing sounds
Japan is such a powerful country.
It's unreal.
Any country with US bases are irrelevant, and should be ignored. US decides everything.
Any more sign of their neutered cat boy Air Force mascot?
I prefer Melodon
based
>Perun
FRICK THAT MONTEMAYOR CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD
China has the J-20 Mighty Dragon. Japan has no chance
It looks like a draggy piece of shit esp with poor engines.
Aren't Japanese air to air and antiship missiles pretty good? Not to mention having a large fleet of AWACS, they should be able to make China bleed even if they can't outright win.
Obviously they weren't used in combat, but I think Japanese were first to put AESA seekers on missiles, so they might have quite good seekers
They're working with MBDA UK on JNAAM, which essentially takes the Meteor missile body and puts the Japanese AAM-4B seeker (Ka-band mm wave seeker) on the front. As the AAM-4B is too large to fit in the F-35's IWB. JNAAM is designed for the F-35 and will most likely be integrated into GCAP.
Doesn't this thing have a relatively fat radar cross-section despite being "stealthy"?
Yeah, side RCS is dog shit, frontal RCS is decent considering its size though.
>frontal RCS is decent
not with those canards
I said decent for it's size, which includes the canards.
Yes the canards make it worse, but it's still decent considering the size of the canards.
I love Perun.
his vids are aggressively mediocre, but the amount of seethe he generates cannot be denied. I look forward to the asspain he generates ever week more so than the vids themselves.
He is a super awesome popular analyst that's for sure. A little bit cringe at times, but probably the best one amongst the normie analysts. Plus, you have to love that dry Aussie humor.
Frick off, Perun.
"Be sure to check out my gaming channel"
> 1:15
Does this guy understand hours of him reading his powerpoint slides doesn't make for a video?
And yet he gets hundreds of thousands of views every week.
Its crazy how people want to listen to someone that actually understands what hes talking about isnt it?
it's almost as if a well-researched Powerpoint slide deck is actually an informative and engaging presentation, done right
