Yeah of course it's gay and moronic, but it is a big step back from G4 and G46. We should not be dumb enough to interpret that as a real win, but also should not be so demoralized to interpret it as a loss.

So this would ban the garand as well correct? Or is it exempt becuase it relies on clips as opposed to magazines?

        Anonymous

Garand has a fixed magazine so it's exempt. SVT40 would be banned, since it's designed for a detachable magazine that holds more than 6 rounds.

SVT wouldnt be banned either because it already exists.
The magazines could be effected though, as were yet to decipher what they mean by 'permanent' or 'capable'

            Anonymous

Again, you guys are completely misunderstand that final bullet point. It doesn't mean that the bill will ONLY apply to guns designed after it comes into effect. The amendment literally reclassifies what a prohibited firearm is to include stuff like the SVT. It's any center fire rifle with detachable magazines. Once it's in effect, any centerfire rifle with a detachable magazine will be prohibited.

              Firearms lawyer here.
It’s very clear that the prohibited classification only refers to firearms both designed and manufactured after C-22 receives royal ascent. We will obviously have to wait to read the actual amendments, however this is looking good. As it’s written now, no current firearms on the market will have their classification changed, at all. This would not only be incredibly easy to argue, it’s the actual letter of the law.
              TL;DR
Don’t be gloomy. This isn’t something to celebrate, but it’s essentially just a move to keep Poly off their butts.

It's shitgroups like this that piss me off the most, because liberals will use them and others as support for nonsensical laws and bans.
God forbid you don't live in southern Quebec or Ontario, God forbid you live in the 8 other provinces and 3 territories of the second largest country in the world; provinces and territories that are undeveloped and sparsely populated where if you're going to live outside of the one or two small cities per province, you need firearms for survival and predator defense.
These slimy, scheming, self-concerned sc**ts don't care about the vast majority of the country and the people living there, they only care about their tiny corner and making it easier to pack more and more people into it, while stripping away their rights, which has serious implications for those that live elsewhere and need those rights even to simply survive.
What does this mean for Nunavut and the Northwest Territories? Without effective hunting, it means less access to food and thus prohibitively expensive living in general coupled with the housing market as it is, on top of limited means of self-defense.
What does this mean for the farm country? Unless you live in one of the small cities already, you better figure out a way to get to one of them because, like those in the territories, you're apparently stupid for surviving where you are and not wanting to be crammed into a small place with everyone else. And frick those farmers who need to defend their livestock and property from coyotes and bears, right?

No they are not, rivets can be removed with a dremel in 2 seconds, to remove a crimp you would need to remove a significant portion of the magazine body.

You're probably thinking of the FRT requirement before domestically designed guns can be sold.

I'm referring to the new criminal code definition for assault weapon. The proposal is that any centerfire semi auto designed to accept magazines greater than 6 rounds is a prohibited assault weapon. Which is part of the government's promise to de-politicize the process, cut through misinformation and disinformation, and classify firearms based on function rather than appearance.

Is that just because of discontent over the United Conservative Party or is it because of transplants who have moved there to flip it similar to what has happened in certain “purple states”?

NTA but a lot of people just vote for who their dad voted for. NDP did some good things in the west back in the day and actually represented the working class. They will have some residual support despite them abandoning the people who made them relevant.

Yes, I am familiar with that phenomenon. My grandfather was a life long CCF and NDP supporter because he was a union rep and such, my uncle as a result was an NDP supporter for a very long time but he pretty much abandoned them on a federal level after Jugmeat took over, I think provincially he has shifted to the right as well because of the Sask parties strong economic policies, or at least he has indicated that.

I do not wish to see Alberta succumb to another disastrous ndp government. Wasn’t once enough? Also Daniel Smith is standing up to Ottawa which is the hallmark of any good leader when the leadership in Ottawa is so abysmal.

Same old lefty playbook strats, it's probably going to work because Edmont and Calgary are full of morons and like you said, fresh transplants from foreign and interprovincial. There has been no significant transplants or immigrants that have shifted things. If anything all the brown people been co-opted by both parties:

                1. Take Back Alberta: These chuckle fricks turned off a ton of possible UCP voters because their policy positions are deeply unpopular outside their base: Making people pay for healthcare, switching from RCMP to a more costly (and provincially influenced Alberta Police), Alberta Sovereignty within a United Canada Act, etc.. Even the ones that aren't overtly unpopular are still divisive among people who aren't in either camp: Covid measures + guns.

                2. United Left: The UCP won things last time by uniting the right under one party, but the net effect has been that the Liberal and Alberta parties are now virtually dead. Which means very little vote siphoning from the NDP now too.

                3. Danielle Smith: Keeps making an butthole of herself. Possible illegal interference to get vaccine tickets quashed, CBC lawsuit threat (which she never went through with), "the phone call", frick ups/redrafting the Alberta Sovereignty Act, mistakes about her legal authority as premier, bad photo ops, etc.. When you've been Premier for such a short time and there are a dozen or more "scandals", it isn't good.

                4. Candidates who would normally be popular have dropped out rather than work for Smith/TBA. Some have scandals of their own like Shando + Madu. Some have resigned due to social media stuff + lawsuits. Some were competitors in the leadership race and are waiting for Smith to lose or were purged. It adds up to lose incumbents and run some weak candidates

Honestly I think they're going to fumble and "unlosable" election.

Those are all good observations, especially when I recall the Covid era scandal involving the previous Kenney govt with their rooftop luncheon.

I mean I can understand people being opposed to private healthcare but why are they so opposed to the Alberta Sovereignty Act?

                Anonymous

                A couple points:

                1. It suggests possible independence or separation from Canada which is not especially popular. Alberta separation sentiment has growth significantly, but outside Smith/Take Back Alberta/A few Yahoos there isn't a ton of support. The vast majority of Albertans are pro-Canada even if they get often get mad at Ottawa. This is especially true among non-UCP voters who are more pro-Ottawa than the average UCP voter. It plays to their base, not the guys on the fence.

                2. As much as Albertans dislike Ottawa, they often trust the Provincial government even less. Any act that gives more power to the provincial government over Ottawa will be distrusted, ESPECIALLY when lead by an unpopular premier like Smith. It might have gone over better with a different premier without all the baggage.

                3. It was initially VERY poorly written and looked like a naked, unconstitutional, power grab to allow orders-in-council outside of provincial jurisdiction.

                4. It was completely unnecessary. Any Act that is "unconstitutional, violate Albertans’ charter rights or that affect or interfere with our provincial constitutional rights." could be voided/challenged anyway. Also, the next government could void the law or ignore it. So why pass it to begin with? Makes Take Back Alberta happy, but they're voting UCP anyway.

                5. After Covid + new gun laws, it looked like an anti-Covid / anti-gun law measure which, again, is divisive among people who aren't UCP voters and who still might dislike Ottawa.

                6. It might be illegal. Kenny called the first draft a "full-frontal attack on the rule of law"

                7. Sketches out all the Indians who are worried it might be used against them.

Smith was never Premier until recently. Here's my short summary of Alberta/Smith:

1971-2008 :Cons were in complete control. Liberals fricked over Alberta and their name became mud, the word Liberal evokes anger.

2008-2015: Wildrose Party starts up around 2008. Even with weak leadership, Cons won 72/83 seats. By 2009 though, people were getting mad because of the economy. Smith took over the Wildrose and they started polling well. 2012 election happens and Wildrose faceplants. Cons win 61/83 seats. Cons are a disaster, Con leader, Redford steps down and gets replaced by Prentice in 2014. 4 by-elections happen, Cons win all 4. As a result, Smith's leadership is harshly criticized, MPs defect to Cons, resolution in WIldrose passes against equal rights for gays and minorities, "lake of fire" speech, etc.. Wildrose is a hot mess, Smith turns her coat and defects to Cons.

2015 Election: Smith can't even get a nomination to run as a Con candidate because of her bullshit. A few things happen. New Wildrose leader, Brian Jean, was not a crazy moron like Smith, the Liberal support completely collapsed, voters were mad at the Cons, and the NDP ran a strong campaign. As a result, 40% of the vote went NDP, but because of vote splitting the NDP ended up with 54/87 seats.

2017: Jason Kenny, manages to convince the Wildrose and Conservatives to merge. 2019 election happens and it works. That said, NDP still get 33% of the vote. By 2022, Kenny resigns because and Smith wins the leadership ballot going into 2023 election. As a result, the NDP is now polling ahead of Cons/Smith.

Smith is an incompetent loser who is going to lose an election to the bucking NDP in the most right-wing province in Canada because: She's unlikeable, her policies are unpopular, her main supporters are nutty, and she's got more baggage than the Toronto Airport. I hope all the fricking losers who voted for her appreciate Notley as their Premier, they deserve it.

It'll be tight because alberta conservatives turn out in less numbers for provincial elections than for federal elections.
Add the fact the notley and the media have been running a shameless gas-lighting campaign against Smith and straight up lying about her intentions with things like Medicare and alberta sovereignty.
All my normie family members think she's going to go full pay-to-play medical and try and cede from Canada and they are too lazy to actually look into what Smith is actually running on.

I think the elections are certainly gerrymandered and structured in a way to ensure that political power remains with the Canadian political establishment, regardless of party affiliation.

As far as your second point goes, that is true. I have ancestors who risked their lives to take part in uprisings and revolts(The Barons war, Scottish war of independence, Wyatt’s Rebellion which was lead by my 12th great grandfather Sir Thomas Wyatt the younger, Bacon’s rebellion in colonial Virginia, the Dutch revolt against the Spaniards, the English Civil War, the Covenanter war, the first & second Jacobite Rebellions, the American revolution, the Russian civil war where my great grandmothers German Catholic village took part in an uprising against the reds after the communists shot a man for attempting to go to church) one thing that I think has been made evident to me upon becoming a father is that I now have as much of a connection to the future as I do the past & just as my ancestors worked and fought and sometimes killed and sometimes died for a better life for their children and descendants I must do the same, I must also give my children the means to do the same for their children. To capitulate and surrender is not an option, not when the future of our people and of our way of life is at stake.

As much as I take issue with George Orwell over some of his political inclinations, he was a smart man & was smart enough to know that totalitarianism is harder to implement when there is a rifle hanging on the wall of a workers cottage, if I were to paraphrase him.

            They don't last longer and

not him, but in a general sense you are correct; AA batteries typically have 2-3k amp hours whereas 123 batteries have about 1.5-2.5k amp hours

there's the added weight of 2 AA batteries on top of your gun, vs. just one smaller and lighter battery

you could argue it makes little difference, but you'd be wrong. ounces add up to pounds which makes a difference when you factor in your light, grip, ammo, and possibly an IR device

so having a smaller and lighter battery is ideal

                Anonymous

that depends on what is important to you, as i said, if you want to be the most high speed low drag then get the 123. if you want to be economical have better availability for batteries and have longer lasting batteries for not much extra weight then get the AA

A reminder that Sir John A MacDonald was a gun grabber

America is not far behind Canada on a federal level with all of the glowie shit that happens, though more than half of the states have some form of constitutional carry. I still want things to improve for Canadian Gun owners, a lot of my friends and family are affected by these attempts at bans and it is quite frankly ruining my retirement dreams of living in a cabin in the Boreal and blasting my irons innawoods every other day.

Just remember that as isolating as being a gun owner in Canada may seem based off of government and media gaslighting, none of you are truly alone as these bans affect a lot of people. My suggestion is to network & make connections with others in your community of a like mind, at worst you might gain a few shooting buddies, at best they might help you form a warband if there is ever any sort of crisis that threatens the continuity of government or its ability to exert control over certain parts of the country.

I have told this story before & I guess I will tell it again because you asked. My wife is American, we met a long time ago when she lived in Washington state and I was in BC, and we had dated for several years having to travel back and forth between the US and Canada so we decided that we needed to get married in order to make our relationship easier. Got married a few months before Covid, she lived in Canada for a while and got very sick of the nanny state government overreach. Once the plan by the Canadian govt to implement vax restrictions on flying were announced we knew we had to leave so I gave notice at my job(sadly as I really liked working there and they liked me), didn’t renew our lease & rented two shipping containers to send most of our things down to the US where we bought a house.

Overall I like it down here even though I can see some of the shortcomings of the US(seed oils in everything, fractional reserve banking, terrible federal government, poor urban & suburban design, nepotism in government, Epstein not actually dying in prison, ect) but there are a lot good things about the US, most of the people are polite, Gun culture is strong, the natural landmass is beautiful, the history is fascinating, it is more affordable than Canada, there is more earning potential, the death penalty exists in this state, as does constitutional carry.

The only things I miss about Canada are my friends and family, crown land shooting, the physical geography, the history & some of the music that Canada has spawned. I don’t like the direction Canada is going in politically although I am proud that my home province has taken a stand.

They arent going after any gun thats already in the market.
They want to limit what comes in in the future.

They want ALL guns banned, this is just them leaving the door open. They will never stop. Remember what Raquel said, this is just the beginning. You must fight them at every turn and never give in to their infantile demands for your personal property.

When I first read the press release I thought these bans would only ban those rifles from being sold in the future, but I now I realize they're still going after the guns currently owned by people and gun stores

they're going to be might confused when no one hands in their guns and there's no one to confiscate them either

Their is quite a bit of confusion in the bread about this all right now.
Im no authority on it but i currently believe:
ofc they are still going after anything theyve already oic banned, they stil plan to take those away, thats just part of C21.
However this new amendment theyre adding doesnt seem to involve taking anyone elses guns, just blocking new ones.

So it sounds like the amendment was a pretty big win for us? Is this a white pill moment bros?

No, it's not a win, but if it passes it's still a much smaller loss than G4 or G46 would have been.
There is a whitepill though, in how they had to cuck themselves this hard, and that this dogshit is their Hail Mary on banning guns. If they somehow don't get even this cucked version passed, that would be a real W.

I know I need NODs, it's sort of the last major thing for me. I would buy some right now but I also need a utility trailer and I have to spend money re-shingling my shed roof and fixing the window wells around my house.

Why is life so hard and unfair. Why can't I just have a house that never needs fixing AND night vision devices?

Let me guess, you like to place shopping carts back in their respective places after you finish loading your car up?

Shingles over shingles, that is pretty daft. Have you pondered maybe using corrugated steel or aluminum. I don’t know if that’s cheaper, but it might last longer than shingles do. I helped my dad build a shed out of that stuff and while it was a bit of a pain, we got it done in like two afternoons.

                Anonymous

I drop kick shopping carts into Teslas and scream racial epithets at the owners, actually.

I've considered steel but it's easily twice the cost and I figure the shingle roof will last a good 15 years, longer than I'll be living in this house.

CollinsGem made the small one, but i believe its slightly outdated, noticeably missing the urban survival section, otherwise its basically just a scaled down version of the bigger one.

so whats the legal test going to be for "permanently alter a magazine to only fit 5 rounds", the current way the mag law is designed is so that the layman can comply with the law. are they going to expect people to own a welder and weld blocks of metal into the bottom of their mags? also whats that thing about the FRT?

it'll be a multiple choice test:

      a.) suck my wiener
      b.) suck my wiener
      c.) suck my wiener
      d.) all of the above

    >Only part of this amendment that's of any potential concern is the magazine limit, which is so vague that it might just be a "literally nothing" sort of thing
    >Poly themselves admitting defeat because the libs have basically just outright said they can't ban shit with this thing
    >Amendment might not even go through because the senate frowns on trying to tack on shit like this to bills that already passed the house phase

they detest anything related to firearms, if they were to ban all firearms and replica's, they would go after first person shooter video games, and then school children doing finger guns, im not joking.

            >and then school children doing finger guns
Anon thats a microaggression, also potentially a microracism if you do it wrong, its practically a assault or atleast a threat.

Potential pipeline from airsoft guns to “real steel” as airsofters call it. They just want to kill all and any possible gun culture because the more people get into guns the less feasible bans and confiscations become in the future.

before buying a cope gun you have to ask yourself if you will still be happy with it once the oic is lifted

That's the only reason why I didn't buy a tavor. I'd feel like a silly goose if I paid $2,800+tip for a rifle right before I'm able to shoot my AR-15.
Man, if I am able to shoot my AR and M14 this summer I'd unplug for good and just focus loading 5.56 and 7.62 to shoot every day.

If the gun is israeli then the answer is yes, as its bullpup perfected.
If its a 180 then obv youd be a bit conflicted if/when real AR's come back.

I probably wouldn’t care if I lived in Alberta and could shoot crown land, but unfortunately I don’t and I’d like to still be able to take my funs to the range. Even on crown land it’s nice to be worry free from possible fish cops or something.

Ok so what is happening? Is this just for new guns? Is the oic getting overturned? Will ATRS win the court case? Can we expect to shoot stags, vz’s and atrs ms soon? Anyone have a rundown of what this news means?

Lockhart tactical raven 223. It’s closer to an ATRS than a 180b like the sterling, and it actually has it’s own NR FRT, unlike others that just piggyback the ar180b FRT.
